...but i was wondering what with new shapes etc etc if there was anything that might be out there for me. it's all about the lack of waist for me. actually, it's all about the fact that i have no abdominal muscles to speak of, post-children. so i might look okay in a dress but then, you know, i sit down and... sack of spuds.

sorry hemprose, but NO WAY is that suitable for anyone with a few extra pounds around the middle. it is skin tight even on the model. i am a size 10 ish and would look HIDEOUS in that due to mummy tummy.

SpitSpot · 26/10/2009 14:01

Oasis do some good dresses for apples -

good ruching over tummy

this is a good shape for apples - v-neck, 3/4 sleeves to show off slim wrist, darkest at biggest point

knitted but not too clinging

knitted again

v-neck again pattern is concealing, would need cardigan with

Iatemyskinnyperson · 26/10/2009 21:04

EastClareMammy here - name changed (I hope).
Hoxton, the All Saints dress is drapey. I'm a 12/14 and the 12 is very comfortable fit on me, no cling!! And I mean this in a good way!

BlueKangerooWonders · 26/10/2009 21:29

I've been lurking and enjoying this thread. WAs about to grab credit card and go forthe 'knitted but not too clingy' but they only have a small in khaki. Gutted doesn't begin to describe.

Have never been moved enough to want to buy any thing on a thread, and now I can't

hoxtonchick · 27/10/2009 09:02

good name skinny! i am a 16, hmmmm, wonder if the 14 would fit. will go to a shop & peruse...

fishie · 27/10/2009 09:50

yy that all saints one looks lovely. too dear though and i have moth house so act of foolishness to spend much on knitwear.

fishie · 27/10/2009 09:52

i have just looked at it some more. i will try to visit it at lunchtmie and report back.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 27/10/2009 09:58

WWWOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOH i have a DRESS! and more to the point it's on my apple-shaped body and i CAN BREATHE!
(and you know what, i had forgotten how nice my legs are. stupid ceasarean distorting my stomach and keeping me in jeans for a year).

hoxty sent me her denim tulip and (someone, who is it hoxty? i always forget and have to buzz her on facebook for a reminder. i could look at the label if i was a contortionist) tunic-y thing and i'm wearing it with tights.

with slippers on, it has just a hint of bea smith from cell block h, but i think with boots it'll be really, really great. and anyway i love bea smith, now that was a body that went in and out in all the right places, va va voom.

weird, though, wearing a frock and having nothing to feel at my stomach. (good, mind you, as it's the first day of my blimmin' period). i think i'll have to do a wee shift in my head-space, though, because it doesn't look like me wearing it, iykwim? (because i've been in sodding jeans and trainers for a year).

i have the long cheapo cardie over it and open at the mo, which might be wrong, will have to test the theory with a shorter one, but i think it looks nice.

oh it's a whole new world, this dress thing.

apols, btw, for not having commented on the most recent links. something's happened to my computer anti virus stuff and it won't let me. am going to look in all the shops mentioned at some point this week, though, deffo.

and THANK YOU HOXTY!

AitchTwoToTangOh · 27/10/2009 10:31

i'm going to, i think. assuming they still have it in. i just want to try things on, i think. thursday, hopefully, if i can get dh to look after the baby.

hoxtonchick · 27/10/2009 14:04

hoxtonchick · 27/10/2009 15:58

fishie · 28/10/2009 20:36

i have just looked at that dress hoxty, it lovely but soldout. thankfully at that price. what colour did you get?

hoxtonchick · 28/10/2009 21:19

i got it from ascension fishie, with a 10% discount, in black. i intend to wear it every day for the next 6 months! esp with purple tights....

KristinaM · 28/10/2009 22:12

what a nice person you are hoxtonchick

so any chance of a photie aitch???

AitchTwoToTangOh · 28/10/2009 23:21

no chance. i can link to one of the frocks though if that's any use?

OP posts:
AitchTwoToTangOh · 28/10/2009 23:22

she is very nice, i can tell you. and va va VOOM as well on the figure front.

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 29/10/2009 06:57

aitch means i have big norks!

KristinaM · 29/10/2009 08:58

yes please to dress link

i struggle with dresses as am also proud owner of large norks so most dresses make me look...... ..ahem...matronly

i feel that huge norks at 25 makes you a babe

same norks at 45 = like your granny

I thought they might go down after i finally finished bf but have only dropped one size from 32G to 32FF

i only own two dresses now, both of which i was " forced" to buy for special occasions and i agonised about them for MONTHS. one is defo occasion dress ( see i sound like i work for Coast or Monsoon) although cheapo black number from Debenhams.

the other was £££ ( even in sale) and is technically a smart day dress but too smart for my work and WAY to smart for SAHM days. But would be fine if i worked in the meeja in cool London office [sigh]

i need a new lifestyle to go with my red dress

AitchTwoToTangOh · 29/10/2009 11:06

they don't have the other one, but here's one. it's actually imo a bit short to be just a dress, but that may be because i got it in the petite size range. not that i'm petite, i should say, but sometimes i feel that they size the petites up better, whereas when things go from a fourteen, say, to a sixteen, in some shops they just assume that you suddenly have an enormous back and huge wrists, iykwim?
that's my top tip, ladies, always try from the 'tite range if you have tits.

KristinaM · 29/10/2009 14:54

thanks

lovely autumn colours

AitchTwoToTangOh · 29/10/2009 15:05

it's actually nicer than it looks onscreen. (i am of course bound to say this, but it is).
