...but i was wondering what with new shapes etc etc if there was anything that might be out there for me. it's all about the lack of waist for me. actually, it's all about the fact that i have no abdominal muscles to speak of, post-children. so i might look okay in a dress but then, you know, i sit down and... sack of spuds.

i think there is a gigantic monster hobbs opening by my work, right next door to jigsaw. well the workmen have hobbs branded hivis on so it must be. it will be fascinating to see this battle of the overpriced.

hoxtonchick · 25/10/2009 22:32

it only goes up to a 14 fishis .

KristinaM · 25/10/2009 22:46

aitch - are you sure you are an apple? You sound the same as me and I'm a lollipop

i have good legs, slim thighs, neat bum, flabby tummy, big norks

white stuff have a shop in town, queen st IIRC. i ventured in their once on the advice of MN. It is staffed by 12 yos and has very loud music. they ignored me steadfastly ( even though i was the only customer there). i tried on nearly everything in the shop and bought nothing

its very student-y style IMHO

KristinaM · 25/10/2009 22:56

and kew are also in theh jigsaw store on ingram st

AitchTwoToTangOh · 25/10/2009 23:02

I'm an apple and a big dress fan. This is my current fav - neck detailing draws eye up, pockets fudge the tummy. Its a bit pricey but the pockets are in a lot of high street dresses. I think they're great to hide a tum, without being too obv about it...HTH

EastClareMammy · 26/10/2009 00:05

Or this?

Hides tum but emphasises good arse/hips/thighs.

hoxtonchick · 26/10/2009 07:20

that all saints one is lovely ECM. is it drapey?

MuffinToptheMule · 26/10/2009 07:56

I am most definitely an apple. I went dress shopping the other day and became extremely depressed with each dress I tried on. I wanted a jumper type one that I could wear with leggings/tights. Every dress made me look as if I had an actual doughnut around my middle stuffed under my dress, it was a truly awful sight. Then I went to white stuff and tried on this dress which was linked further up the page. I liked the red one on the hanger but it was a bit iffy when I tried it on. The black and grey one however was actually bloody nice and I bought it even though I thought it was quite expensive. Go to white stuff and try things on.

it is against the rules, technically, but we'll let you off. blimmin' eck, you couldn't have been that round.

Doodleydoo · 26/10/2009 09:29

Haven't read all posts but OP I am an apple (with boobs) so actually I just look like a lumpy thing!

However I have found (don't kill me all)this which is flattering around the middle whilst showing off a bit of cleavage. You can wear with leggings, vest etc and the "ruched" bit looks good over the apple bit.

Katisha · 26/10/2009 09:32

I'm sure you looked great in it Hemprose, but this just reinforces my theory that people in fashion are not using the same definitions as me when they talk about big stomachs or large hips. Strikes me that they mean they have possibly put on a spare 4 ounces...

It's like all those spreads in fashion pages about jeans for different figures - the ones for alleged large hips look the same as all the others to me...

fishie · 26/10/2009 10:02

crikey hemprose - it is a lovely dress but i'd frighten more than the horses wearing that.

also the largest size is a medium. ahem.
