Chanel number 5.
ds brought me a bottle for christmas and I took it back and exchanged it. It's horrible! Nasty assistant telling him it was the best. I felt like such a bad mum

Lauriefairycake · 12/01/2009 22:48

Most celebrity scents (not all - I like the SJP's ones)

The ones that stink of the 80's - Opium/Poison/Charlie/Brut/Old Spice

Anything 'fresh' and toilet cleaner like - about 90% of the market

MrsDoylesMole · 12/01/2009 22:51

I love Poison

I hate Ghost- but only since I was pg with ds. Before that I thought it was lovely. But I got stuck on the bus suffering terrible morning sickness with someone who was plastered in the stuff and I have thought it vile ever since

AlistairSim · 12/01/2009 22:54

Angel.

heave

zazen · 12/01/2009 23:01

Amirage, I think it's called is an horrifically stinky one..

I like the SJP ones also LFC!

differentID · 12/01/2009 23:02

Anais Anais!

LyraSilvertongue · 12/01/2009 23:05

Amarige was one of my favourites. I haven't worn it in years though.
I also have Angel but it's a bit overpowering.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/01/2009 09:05

I do like Clinique Aromatics Elixir but it can be quite gag-making in quantity

Any perfume in large quantity, is gross.

I like Chanel 5, I like Poison.

I hate Exclamation, and ... there was one in the 80s with a stripey yellow and white box ... But then, I hate these because I've known some annoying people who smelled like they were swimming in the stuff.

NotQuiteCockney · 13/01/2009 09:21

(Oh, and my current fave is probably one of the Gwen Stefani ones. )

TsarChasm · 13/01/2009 09:27

Ah yes NQC the stripey yellow and white box one was Georgio Beverly Hills. Agree with you there. Very sickly and sweet.

There used to be one called Red Door which made me feel ill but I don't know if it's still about.

NotQuiteCockney · 13/01/2009 09:29

Yes, that's it.

I'm sure it could be lovely in tiny amounts , but an ex's mum used to bathe in it, she wore so much that you could still smell her in a corridor she'd been down hours before.

VampiresWalkin · 13/01/2009 09:30

Different people suit different things - ones that smell lovely on my mum do really weird things when they hit my body.

You can't just randomly announce a perfume smells awful

psychomum5 · 13/01/2009 09:31

another poison hater here too.......smells like rotten carrots to me, and I can always tell when someone nearby is wearing it, even in shops.

strange to, as my perfume is actually poison - hypnotic. DH doesn;t like me wearing any other now.

Jux · 13/01/2009 09:33

Poison and the ghastly old lady one my MIL got dd for her 8th birthday.

Oh, and there was a time when everyone seemed to wear tea-rose which made me sick and gave me a headache, I used to have to change carriage on the underground when someone got on who was wearing it

TsarChasm · 13/01/2009 09:33

Actually vampire you have a point. I have rushed off to try perfumes I've liked on other people but they turn out differently on me.

NorbertDentressangle · 13/01/2009 09:35

There really are some foul ones worn by "youngsters" these days ( god, that makes me sound like a right old hag )

The other day this 17/18yr old girl seemed to be following me round every shop I went in -problem was she was wearing the most overpowering, sickly, cheap(?) smelling perfume. I could still "taste" it later after she had disappeared.

I have no idea what it was but it seems to be one of those current faves that have a overly strong and sweet stench. The Exclamation of today IYSWIM ?

NotQuiteCockney · 13/01/2009 09:43

Yeah, Exclamation was very sweet.

I agree, though, how horrible a perfume is depends on how much is being worn, and by whom. Different perfumes do different things on different people.

smugmumofboys · 13/01/2009 09:45

Chanel Allure strangely unpleasant and one by Givenchy (pink bottle) is vile. An old Jobcentre manager I had years ago used to wear waaaaaaay too much of it.

smugmumofboys · 13/01/2009 09:46

Just read rest of thread. It was Amarige.

joliejolie · 13/01/2009 09:50

I was told that when you can no longer smell the scent you wear, it means it works well with your body chemistry.
I think that is why people tend to slap in on in quantity.

Every scent does smell differently on everyone.

Chanel number 5 is a very good scent because it is easy to wear and agrees with many different body chemistries. The problem is that many people associate it with older women because it has been around for so many years.

VampiresWalkin · 13/01/2009 10:04

I never notice what I'm wearing - assumed it just wears off me really quickly. Will put some on in a min and ask DH to sniff me in a few hours.

Psycho's must work well on her because I never notice her being overwhelmingly stinky, but when she used to cuddle Flameboy as a baby, he always came home smelling of Psycho

Jewelsandgems · 13/01/2009 10:26

I actually do not like coco chanel.

But, I do LOVE (and wear) coco chanel madesmoiselle!
