Davidoff cool water ... urghhhh ive been bought it twice and given it away each time its evil evil stuff! However my fave is Miss Dior Cherie for a light pretty strawberry/popcorny smell ... yummy!

oxocube · 13/01/2009 19:21

Another vote for, not against, Coco Mademoiselle. Also love Chanel Chance. Dislike Obsession, Poison, Anais Anais to name but a few

zenandtheartofbaking · 13/01/2009 19:53

Does anyone else remember The Year of Body Shop Dewberry?

I thought it smelled slightly over-ripe and really in-you-face. It seemed everyone else thought it smelled fab. I seriously thought I was going to have to go and live abroad.

Sadly, the perfume that makes me feel nauseous now is "Passion" by Annick Goutal. I thought it would be beautiful to give birth wearing perfume. Ha!

Now if I smell it, I feel as though someone is drilling into my head, through my right eye.

Tinker · 13/01/2009 19:55

I've obviously got really bad taste since looked up one I love (Lolita Lempicka) on that perfume blog linked to on the other thread and it was continually compared to Angel - which everyone seems to hate

Lastyearsmodel · 13/01/2009 21:08

Zen I'm with you on Dewberry. And Body SHop's White Musk was almost as bad.

Midnight My Mum used to wear Rive Gauche. I can still feel the headache it used to induce when I had to sit behind her in the car and she'd just sprayed a great cloud of it.

tattycoram · 13/01/2009 21:23

Oh god I can smell Dewberry now. Vile

kettlechip · 13/01/2009 21:38

I once tried Angel and it actually made me retch. I had to go and wash it off in the department store.

kettlechip · 13/01/2009 21:39

and dewberry is and always was vile. YSL Paris reminds me of being carsick (my mum used to wear it when I was little!)

I love Davidoff cool water though!

snickersnack · 13/01/2009 21:43

CK One - really really unpleasant. Makes me want to be sick. In fact, I was sick when my SIL wore it and I was about 6 weeks pg with dd.

I love Chanel no. 5, and also Chance but dh made me give my bottle away to my sister because it made him retch.

Sparkletastic · 13/01/2009 21:51

Has anyone read 'Perfumes - The Guide' by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez? Angel is deemed to be a modern classic and after initially being overwhelmed by the candyfloss top notes I have to say it has really grown on me. DH hates it though so I haven't bought any for a while. I currently love Bulgari Black, and my other fave is Nutmeg and Ginger by Jo Malone. Also have a strange soft spot for Karma by Lush - takes me back to my patchouli / Body Shop days... Can't abide Pleasures by Estee Lauder as my boss used to drown herself in it to hide her rank body odour - yack.

mazzystartled · 13/01/2009 21:56

I love Angel

much nicer after an hour's wear, it's a bit like bitter chocolate

I hate "light"/"fresh" ones like Issey Miyake and anything too sugary/fruity

cutekids · 13/01/2009 22:03

Well...i'm nearing 41 girls and there are still x 2 things I wear...together!
I put my ordinary deodorant on.
Then,I put my MUSK body spray on (if I can afford it,by Impulse...but any Sainsbury's/Wilkinson's will do!) But..don't laugh!... i insist on wearing LOU-LOU..OK OK! But,WOMEN aswell as MEN tell me I smell "gorgeous"!!!!!!
Literally,I get the comment all the time...by men and women...YOU SMELL GORGEOUS.
My reply,"Well,if I can't look nice,I can still smell nice!" Don't buy it in Boots though..The Perfume Shop is about the third of the price.

Sparkletastic · 13/01/2009 22:14

Oh LouLou is deffo a classic - that was my first perfume (bought for me by my dear dad). You can certainly get it for a good price nowadays - Superdrug often do it for between £10 and £15.

suwoo · 13/01/2009 22:23

I used to love Loulou (as a teen), but then I also wore BodyShop Dewberry. I also used to like Angel, but have gone off it. Sunflowers is gross, as is Clinique Happy

Rianna · 14/01/2009 09:20

Yes, I've read The Guide by Turin.but remember that Turin just gives his opinion and sometimes gives 5 stars to perfumes because they are original or whatever, or innovative. If you like it or not, that rests a matter of personal taste.I hardly mind any perfume if not sprayed on too much, and hate any perfume if someone has emtied the botlle.Usually I really don't like to small harsh perfumes like Happy.Or I might love Youth Dew or Coco in small doses on someone over Christmas, but hate it when it is over 40 degrees in a hot country and you sit in te same car with someone who has emtied teh bottle.I love no 5, but prefer the pure perfume.I don't see how a small amount of no 5 perfume can be offensive to anyone. Now, big quantities of th e edt sprayed allover in summer...yuck.

SwedesInACape · 14/01/2009 16:39

Agree re Poison.

L'Air du Temps smells just like an old lady trying to cover up urinary incontinence with pressed powder.

Anais Anais is the sort of flowery perfume a 3 year old would produce.

I don't actually like Chanel No. 5 either - it has that pressed powder smell thing going on though this time without the medium stale urnine.

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 16:47

Was looking for a new scent before Chriostmas and tried Bulgari..... awful! Really made me feel sick. Can't stick anything by Alizabeth Arden or Estee Lauder etiher.

In the end I chose Rock n Rose which I love, the other ones I have liked are CLinique Happy (but ex- MIL gave it to me and cant sahke the association), and Jo Malone (the lime one).

Anything in the lynx men range is a no go here as Dh used it when I was pg and it has an emetic effect on me.

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 16:48

E lizabeth, obv

I associate Anais Anais with a girl in my college class when I was 16 who boasted about wearing it all the time, when all you could really smell was severe BO.

MrsSeanBean · 14/01/2009 16:52

Clinique 'Simply' was awful, I believe it has been discontinued so I couldn't have been the only one!

Agree that Chanel Allure is not one of their better offerings (although the Men's one is nice).

I quite like Diorissimo (Lily of the Valley 'notes' as the profs would say) but am aware that it's a bit divisive!

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/01/2009 16:56

Someone bought me Le Jardin once. Truly vile. DH had a company car once that he inherited from one of the director's PAs. She obviously used to get in the car, put her seat belt on and then spray herself with it, as it was totally soaked with the smell. I used to refuse to go in the car!

Don't like Chanel No 5, and have never 'got it'. But do love Chanel Cristal, Coco and Allure.

Paris, by YSL

Love Rive Gauche, but my mum always used to wear that, so it's not a smell I want for me!

Current favourites are Jo Malone Lime, Mandarin and Basil and Stella McCartney Absolute Rose. I am a bit of a perfume snob and would never have bought a sleb perfume, but DH bought me the Stella McCartney one and it is lovely.

ellideb · 14/01/2009 17:02

Amarige. Gag. Yes my mum had a thing about it and used to wear it all the time. It used to make me feel so ill trapped in the car with her on the way to school when I was a kid.

I fell in love with Gucci on the way back from holiday a few years ago and bought a couple of bottles in the duty free at the airport on to realise that it smelt like my friends granny's house and I can't bear it anymore. Anyone want it?

SwedesInACape · 14/01/2009 17:06

My favourite is Jo Malone Amber & Lavender and I like that Stella McCartney one too, BIWI.

CrushaGrape · 14/01/2009 17:11

I'm not a fan of those overpowering, banned in restaurant smells of the 1980s, such as Obsession, Giorgio Beverly Hills, and Poison (although a friend used to wear the latter, and it smelled great on her).

I'm very bad at identifying perfumes, even when people are wearing my own. The only one I recognise if I pass someone wearing it is DP's (not perfume, man smell).

cyteen · 14/01/2009 17:47

zen When I was at secondary school you were either a White Musk or a Dewberry girl. I seriously thought Dewberry was the most sophisticated scent ever

kettlechip After reading countless articles praising the delicious chocolatey smell of Angel, I sprayed some on my wrist in Selfridges and was nearly sick as the cloud of rotting peach miasma rolled over me. Worst of all, it had soaked into my watch strap so for months afterwards I could smell it every time I rested my chin on my hand. [bleurgh]

Metatron · 14/01/2009 18:12

Loulou makes me smell like a cat peed on me.

I can't stand clean, fresh, fruity perfumes.

I like ones that are a bit filthy/dirty. To be worn in small quantities obv and rarely during the day.
