I really loved Arpege de Lanvin (sp?). Do they still make it?

MrsSeanBean · 14/01/2009 18:22

I'd forgotten Arpege Swedes! See here

snowleopard · 14/01/2009 18:24

Has anyone mentioned the diesel one? Foul in every way. The bottle looks like a slapper's leg, and it smells like wee in a gutter.

Megglevache · 14/01/2009 18:33

Fragrance is such a personal thing and perfumes can smell so entirely different on different bodies but Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin is so gross I would rather dab wee behind my ears and it would probably smell better to me, and I am a Jo Malone whore. It is the signature scent that they are famed for I understand. I cannot work out what is nice about it. Maybe I need to sniff it on someone else.

I have Pom Noir/ Orange Blossom and Wild Fig and Cassis which I rotate they are lovvvvvely to me.

My friend wears the Violet linen spray and it smells wonderful on her

Sparkletastic · 14/01/2009 18:37

Now according to a perfume blog I love - 'Now Smell This' - most scents have been stabilised now to smell the same pretty much on every wearer. I'm not sure if this is true of anyhting that isn't a new formulation though. I have to say I tend to make things smell quite 'earthy' whereas the same scents on my mum and BF smell much fresher. Not sure what this says about my body chemistry

themoon66 · 14/01/2009 19:42

Dewberry makes my skin crawl.

I used to have an office next door to a married bloke who was shagging a junior member of staff on the side. Said shagee wore Dewberry. I always knew when they were in there, shagging on the desk, as you 'see' the Dewberry vapours seeping out under the door

cyteen · 14/01/2009 19:48

That is so sordid

VintageGardenia · 14/01/2009 19:56

The two Agent Provocateur ones - Maitresse and I can't remrmber the other one - are ick.

Also Paris and I hate Eau de Givenchy, hurts my eyes.

Tom Ford Patchouli is beyond repellent.

I think I am going off Vintage Gardenia (ironically) even though I always automatically say it's my favourite perfume.
love her Lime Basiland Mandarin though.

I love Chanel Cristalle.

Jewelsandgems · 14/01/2009 21:09

Chanel allure for men is divine.

I do also remember dewbury and white musk, and did go through a phase of wearing exclamation at school.

I have the chanel no5 pure perfume (in the glass decanter) and I do really like it. Havn't worn it for ages though....too busy wearing my prada and coco chanel madesmoiselle...

Does anyone remember those little mini bottle gift sets with perfumes called names like 'so....' and other crappy ones like it?

MrsSeanBean · 14/01/2009 21:57

Many moons ago my first 'perfume', kindly donated by an Auntie, was a concoction called 'Tweed'. I thought I was so sophisticated!

I also love Chanel Cristalle, but only the Eau de Toilette, it smells completely different in the Eau de Parfum, I think it's best as a light fresh fragrance.

Mooseheart · 14/01/2009 22:03

This thread has made me realise how many shite perfumes came out in the 80s/90s.. and how I wore quite a lot of them

I have to say though that the worst I have ever tried on me is Guerlain's Mitsouko. I tried it when I was about fifteen then tried it again the other day while out shopping, thinking that I may have grown in to it but i still find it cloying and foul.

I wear Jo Malone - most of her scents are to die for - and I was also impressed by Vera Wang's Bouquet when I tried it on said shopping trip.

WinkyWinkola · 14/01/2009 22:05

I love Mitsouko. And Chanel No. 19. Kind of mainstream smells, I guess.

I loathe Estee Lauder's Beautiful and Dior's Poison. They are so very vile and were very in in the '80's.

Desiderata · 14/01/2009 22:10

I like J'Adore, but I hate the price of all perfume.

Over-priced pap, the lot of it!

Tinker · 14/01/2009 22:13

What's so great about Jo Malone? Have never smelt any but don't like the idea of them, they sound like perfumes for really straight, sensible, unsexy women (because that's what she looks like, I suppose) Am I wrong?

MumHadEnough · 14/01/2009 22:26

I'm glad to see that so far no one has mentioned my two favourite perfumes, CK Eternity and Escape.

I do remember in the late 80's stealing my nana's Poison and Paris perfumes, I hate the smell of them now though

zanz1bar · 14/01/2009 22:33

rive gauche...cats pee

SlartyBartFast · 14/01/2009 22:39

that one from the 70's 80's, on the tip of my tongue,
soo stinky, but i used to love it.

SlartyBartFast · 14/01/2009 22:43

opium - i know someone who wears it now !

gag

WinkyWinkola · 14/01/2009 22:45

Eurgh. Opium. It's horrible. I remember being labour and the midwife on the new shift was doused in the stuff. It made me want to heave even more than the fag stench on the ambulance drivers.

Smells - so potent, aren't they? 'mazin'.

zenandtheartofbaking · 14/01/2009 22:57

I think Tinker is going to suggest something contentious, like Jo Malone being the Boden of the perfume world.

Tinker · 14/01/2009 23:02

zen - that's it! That's exactly the image I have of Jo Malone perfumes

zenandtheartofbaking · 14/01/2009 23:05

You're a cheeky scamp, Tinker. I'll have you know I'm wearing nutmeg and ginger right now!!

Tinker · 14/01/2009 23:10

Is it sassy?

zenandtheartofbaking · 14/01/2009 23:13
Grin
zenandtheartofbaking · 14/01/2009 23:16

Actually ... it makes me think of a low-fat version of The Lovely Nigella - and, weirdly, I love that .... .
