Why don't ginger people just dye their hair a normal colour?

Surely they should stop inflicting pain on the rest of us and go brunette or something?

(Don't take it too seriously; I'm in a mischievous mood!)

Ginger. I am using this thread to take the piss out of myself and my straight hair thread.

There. Happy now?

snort, i dread to think what MrsTH's take is on black women with red hair.

Songbird · 01/08/2008 16:26

Ooh you nearly had me there!

gingerninja · 01/08/2008 16:27

If that's the case, this thread is seriously too deep for me. All these hidden meanings...

MrsThierryHenry · 01/08/2008 16:29

Oh, ginger, I'm really sorry. I feel bad now. Please have some ice-cream

Dragon - you're as mischievous as I am!!

Looks like I arrived just in time!

TheMagnificent7 · 01/08/2008 17:14

I'll take full blame for this one!

The thread we were all on was getting a little heated and diluted so I suggested another one in jest to calm it down a bit, and here we are. We're not taking the piss out of Gingers, rather the opposite, but if you weren';t there you wouldn't know. Sorry.

TheMagnificent7 · 01/08/2008 17:15

Thank F**k I didn't start on the left-handers. Oddballs.

RedHead81 · 01/08/2008 17:17

I agree about your post gingerninja that people are bullied about their red hair - I was one of them - primary and junior school was hell for me - I hated every day I spent there - Comprehensive school was pretty much the same, but by then I had developed a thick skin and (tried) to let comments slide - but it wasn't nice. One consolation I have now is that those who used to bully me, now spend a fortune on keeping their hair my colour - many of them are on the dole (not meant to offend anyone who is - just using as a comparison to me) and I have My own home , my own successful business a loving husband and two beautiful boys. How about that for a bit of revenge? lol

Cammelia · 01/08/2008 19:24

Magnificent7 my dh is reddish/blondish and left handed

TheMagnificent7 · 01/08/2008 20:17

Yes, know what you mean. One of my children is left handed too. Ive tried everything.

CarGirl · 01/08/2008 20:18

don't you realise that ginger hair doesn't really dye any other colour properly!

SlartyBartFast · 01/08/2008 20:20

i want to know why do people call it
strawberryblond.???/

ds had a friend at primary, he was, and still is, insistent that was the colour of her hair,

TwoWashTutter · 01/08/2008 20:20

taking the piss or not...

you are on my (short) list of mners who are really getting on my tits

TwoWashTutter · 01/08/2008 20:22

she's funny

you're not

TheMagnificent7 · 01/08/2008 20:32

I'm a bit funny.

MrsThierryHenry · 01/08/2008 22:24

TwoWash - you're not funny either! But have a lovely weekend

(Believe it or not, I came up with this idea before seeing cod's post. Mmm, yes, it's true)

Mrs TH - he he he! I am a ginger, although not as ginger as I was at school when I really deserved the nickname (I preferred it to 4 eyed freckle faced swot anyway) - and wouldn't change it for the world. It gives strength of character!

My DS has a ginger tinge in his blondish hair but DH won't have it - he is anti-boy gingers. But it does look like DS will have lovely strawberry blond hair (SBF, no idea where that comes from but in Australia they call it apple blond; or that could just be my MIL)

You go with your provocative threads - it brings out some interesting responses! (you weren't prettyinpink or whoever the madwoman was who ran the pink themed wedding guest thread, were you?)

Now for some interesting ginger thoughts:
my osteopath says that ginger people tend to have weaker collagen and therefore more joint problems. Manganese is a mineral that is needed for healthy joints. manganese deficiency can cause a reddening of the hair. but before you all run out and start od'ing on manganese (those of you who are not red and proud, that is) - excess manganese gives you symptoms of mad cow disease.

And I'm pretty sure that the most common colour that people dye their hair is some shade of red - it's all just jealousy!!

TheMagnificent7 · 01/08/2008 23:12

My best friend has a boy with the most beautiful ginger hair of all time, and he'd kick anyones arse if they took the piss. He's 9.

Did you know that you couldn't be a Roman soldier if you were left handed. My how times change

MrsThierryHenry · 02/08/2008 20:54

Thumbwitch, that is definitely the most interesting post on this thread! Has your DH ever explained why he's anti boy gingers in particular?

I think you're spot on about the jealousy thing - certainly if I could choose any hair type (and if it would suit me of course ) I'd go for long thick, juicy curly red locks. I don't mean auburn red, I mean proper ginger red. Can't see it working with my brown skin, somehow!!

Mag7 - yes, the Italian word for left is 'sinistra' - now how offensive is that?!

OP posts:
Notyummy · 02/08/2008 20:58

Gingers rule!!! (take a look on my profile at me and dd and you will see why I have to say that )

DH was also v scared of having a ginger boy, but was delighted to have a ginger girl (although maybe he has to say that as I am one...)

MascaraOHara · 02/08/2008 21:08

Mrs ThierryHenry, you are a twunt

(Don't take it too seriously; I'm in a mischievous mood!)

thumbwitch · 02/08/2008 23:48

MrsTH - I think it was because boy gingers get called rude names in Australia, like "red dog" (although in comparison with some of what I got called, that is perfectly polite!), and also he couldn't be anti-girl gingers when I am partly one and his mum was a full-on auburn ginger before she went grey!
(snap, Notyummy)

There is a girl in my town who has the most gorgeous flame hair - it has so many shades of red and gold and is waist-long and naturally curly - I would LOVE that hair. I would consider slapping her if she ever straightened it (metaphorically of course).

DH and I did spend some time discussing whether any red-haired men were attractive or not but I think there are quite a few (he doesn't necessarily agree with me, especially about Julian Rhind-Tutt in Green Wing!); although there are some spectacularly ugly specimens (Max in Eastenders for starters!)

TheMagnificent7 · 03/08/2008 02:21

Now now. I won't have any made up swearwords on a post that is deliberately offensive MascaraOHara - Please click here, turn up the sound, and press 'Y'.

Then all press 'R' in unison. Britains best choir indeed.

Left handed people have more accidents too.
