Why don't ginger people just dye their hair a normal colour?

Surely they should stop inflicting pain on the rest of us and go brunette or something?

(Don't take it too seriously; I'm in a mischievous mood!)

I watched it with little cook - very funny bloke - can't say that i started to fancy him though - even with clothes on!

I'm ginger and i don't find this thread offensive - I've grown up having the pi$$ taken and this thread is very mild in comparison! In a world of PC, it seems that everybody should be seen as looking the same - heaven forbid anyone mentioning a difference in someones appearance! FGS - I have red hair and I look different to someone who had brown hair - BUT PLEASE DON'T TELL ME I HAVE RED HAIR - I MIGHT GET OFFENDED!!! PFFT!!!!

Soon instead of us saying "my name is x and I have red hair blue eyes and white skin etc..." we will be forced into saying "my name is x and I have hair, eyes and skin like everybody else and I'm not at all different to any other human being". What is happening to individuality??
very sad!

God I'm rambling now - must be the ginger hair - I'm not used to talking to people you see - I'm usually hidden under a paper bag! (sarcasm just in case anyone was wondering!)

ConstanceWearing · 05/08/2008 13:04

I do get offended if people take the pee out of my hair colour. It really is the one thing guaranteed to make me angry

TheMagnificent7 · 05/08/2008 16:24

Have you tried not putting any pee in it ? Might help with the colouring.

thumbwitch · 05/08/2008 21:58

ah yes, but if people have a go I just fire up in a "typical" fiery redhead temper-y way - don't mess with the red hair!

And it IS just jealousy because they have booooring coloured hair and booooring brains to match.

ConstanceWearing · 06/08/2008 14:54

See now, mag7 is taking the pee out of my hair. I'm going to have to get a refill

Think I'm the only redhead in the world without a temper

MrsThierryHenry · 06/08/2008 15:38

Hi lovelies, I'm back! Did you miss me?

Okay, you didn't even notice I'd gone, didya? So what have I missed? Quite a lot it seems - including being called a Nazi! Well, that's a first. Funny isn't it, how most of the MNers who leave 'Angry of Battersea' posts here don't come back with their tails between their legs once they've actually read the thread! Big hands and mighty applause to Thumbs and Constance for bucking the trend

Was seething with ginger jealousy yesterday; on the bus there were not one, but two raven-haired women with long, curly locks down to their waists. I totally agree with whoever it was on this thread that said ginger hair is the most vibrant, exciting hair colour there is. But am very to hear of the ginger gene being washed out of existence. We can't let this happen! What's the solution? Do we need to start matchmaking gingers with each other? There's got to be a genetic equation which guarantees the survival of the ginger gene!

I thank yew, MrsThierry's

No shame in being wrong now and again. The shame is in pretending you're not

MrsThierryHenry · 06/08/2008 15:45

Dragonbutter, I read your post on my dull Goodhousekeeping thread. I now have a new thread here to whet your appetite. I expect some serious posting from you, girly

Two gingers always make a ginger. It's just unfortunate that gingers rarely fancy each other, and one of the reasons for that is that society is taught that red hair is second-class.

I married 2 very dark haired, dark skinned men on purpose to over-ride my red gene . Never wanted any red DC's for them to suffer same crap as I did in childhood. Never had any either.

MrsThierryHenry · 06/08/2008 15:47

Well said, Constance! You'd have thought that in the anonymous safety of a chat forum people would feel more comfortable about throwing off their egos, right? Pah! As if!

MrsThierryHenry · 06/08/2008 15:48

How awful that you felt so bad about being ginger. If it were possible for ginger hair to suit my brown skin I'd be off to the colourist's in a flash!

You never know, though, genes have a weird way of cropping up in successive generations, so there may be hope yet...

Notyummy · 06/08/2008 15:52

I'm not entirely sure about the whole recessive gene thing. Both may parents have dark brown hair (and different eye to me) and I popped out with red hair and brown eyes. My dd also has red hair and brown eyes, although dh is blonde with green eyes.....the ginger gene is strong in this family, no?

PS: No regrets with my hair colour. I have had FAR more people telling me how gorgeous it is, than I ever had pisstakers (duracell...stinks of wee..etc. Yawn.) Now my ginger pride is carried on with dd, who old ladies stop in the street to stroke her curly red hair and say how beautiful it is.

LadyThompson · 06/08/2008 16:04

Haven't read the whole thread, but I think ginger hair is unusual and sexy.

Unfortunately DP thinks it's rank. But what does he know, he's a bloke. I think this anti-gingerness is quite recent, I don't remember it as a kid. DP seems genuinely concerned we might have a ginger kid (I am blonde, he is a brunette). I don't think it works like that but I am not going to tell him, the great twit.

OneLieIn · 06/08/2008 16:04

We are a ginger family. DS is orange - his description - dd has a bit of red in her. DH was red, now faded a lot and me, still a lovely full head of long red hair.

I love being ginger. I love having an excuse for my temper, I love every single one of our family's freckles.

BTW, you need to see this wonderful site

OneLieIn · 06/08/2008 16:07

Oh yes, WORLD GINGER DOMINATION!

thumbwitch · 06/08/2008 17:36

Yay the ginger nation!

I dont think it's as simple as ginger being just a recessive gene - they have worked out now that eye colour isn't as simple as they once thought and I bet they'll do the same for hair soon. Ginger will always out eventually - we don't actually know where mine came from as there are no other gingers in the known family (except my dad's beard) but we do have borh Scottish and Irish recent ancestry.

My DH's big thing about ginger boys is when they don't have visible eyebrows or eyelashes - he doesn't like that - but our DS has visible both so should be ok (they aren't very dark, v. similar to mine)

thumbwitch · 06/08/2008 17:38

ps Thanks Mrs TH!

Wish I'd seen the "fuck off I'm ginger" thing. And for COnstance with no temper! that's just wrong...

" for constance with no temper"

I do have one really, deep down. But I'm not generally fiery

I think it's lovely that people are proud of their red hair. I did see fark off I'm ginger. Watched with squirming admiration. lol

catinthehat · 07/08/2008 19:00

Haven't read any of this thread. I just know one lady who was obviously a lanky pasty ginge at school.

Yes you've guessed it, now she's tall & skinny, has cheekbones & fabulous skin which isn't going to drop or go wrinkly and even her hair is going to age pretty damn gracefully as well.

RedHead81 · 08/08/2008 12:12

Glad to see the thread is still going!
We're still waiting to see if DS2's hair will be red he's 13wks and he was born with blonde hair (which has all fallen out now) but what is growing is a sort of blonde colour too - too fine to really see at the moment though.

In our family its only me and my Paternal Grandmother who have red hair. She had 5 children (all with brown or blonde hair) then there are 8 grandchildren (only me with red hair) My mum never thought that I would be red (her having brown hair the same as my dad) and she always said when she was little that she never wanted a baby with red hair - then she had me!!! apparently she cried when i was born - not with emotion - no - because I had red hair!!! She loves it now though (or so she says LOL!!!) When i was a baby and she took me out in a pram people used to stop and say "what beautiful red hair she's got" and my mum used to say "No, it's blonde!!!" lol

Meh! I love it and everyone comments on what a lovely colour it is!

My DH gets a bit of ginger in his beard if he lets it grow - so hopefully we will continue the gingers!

HarrogateMum · 08/08/2008 12:25

I have 3 kids - DTs who are 3, both boys, one has blonde hair and one bright bright red (well, orange I guess!), and DD who is 20 months also bright orange! I have dark brown hair and DH is blonde........but my Mum and her sister were both redheads - I think it normally skips a generation doesnt it?

I love their hair, but even at the DTs tender age, the redheaded one has had abuse shouted at him by kids. It makes me worry for when they go to school as he is already quite sensitive......

mustsleep · 08/08/2008 12:25

in my family me and my sister both have red hair (RED NOT GINGER) or aurburn as my mother calls it

neither my mum or dad have it and neither did their parents although my uncle does

dh is strawberry blonde which i could see would be trouble

ds was born with dark hair and still has it must be from my mother but you wouldn;t believe the "is he your's " comments
dd has lovely strawberry blonde curls which get redder in the winter
and we're just waiting on what this one will be

RedHead81 · 08/08/2008 12:36

I won't lie to you HMum - school for me was hard (awful at times) and I hated it - but I think it has made me stronger now. My usual response now (I worked at a conservative club behind the bar on a saturday night before DS2 was born) is "how original - I had no idea my hair was red" or "Do you think I haven't heard that one before?!" And when they ask if my pubes are the same colour as my hair I tell them "Oh does that mean yours are grey then???" (whilst pulling a disgusted face) I have a laugh about it!

I think that some kids are cruel and will find anything to take the mick out of - just make sure he is able to talk to you about it. Like I said in an earlier post - those that took the mick out of me are now on the dole and I have a beautiful family and a successful business. Who's the winner here then?

RedHead81 · 08/08/2008 12:39

mustsleep - i get "is he yours?" comments too because DS1 has light brown hair! you only have to look at his face to see he's mine!
