WWW's 10 year younger bootcamp, July thread III, all welcome

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2008 20:28

Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.
Apologies for belated new thread.

ps ladies, be frank with me. I'll be stopping breastfeeding in the next couple of months, and am now rather dreading the fallout (no pun intended ). What can I expect in the aftermath? How bad, in short, will my poor norks look? Gone from a 34 B/C to a 34 F(!), down to about a D now, I think .. They were pretty good beforehand, but I fear their glory days may be very, very over ...

ooh and speaking of norks, where is Prufrock? Haven't seen her for a while ...

LoveAndSqualor · 30/07/2008 15:18

oh and pps, yes absolutely to an Oct meetup. Right: cake.

Marina · 30/07/2008 16:02

Make sure you lift the cake carefully to your lips with good core support there L & S...
Have been awol due to busyness and cake consumption in the aftermath of dd's party.
I wonder if the heat is making quite a few people a little gyppy - my tummy's not been right lately - sorry to hear you are similarly afflicted ureb.
Ds and dd also not liking the humidity and we are having argy-bargy with both of them. Dd informed dh last night that she knew he was going to leave us because he had a girlfriend at work. Given that dh is the loyalest and most unappealing decent of chaps, he was rather taken aback by this prize piece of attention-seeking. We are deducing that she has heard other children, maybe at her highly educational playscheme, talking of such things.
I was unfortunately detained watching Mamma Mia with a bunch of pals so missed this bedtime soap unfolding. But she is being so cheeky and defiant, and then accusing us of not loving her etc when we insist on her tidying up/brushing her teeth/staying in her room after lights out . Where did my ickle baby go?
So happiness is a bit dodgy in our house. Good news - dh has booked an evening out for my birthday incl babysitter Bad news - both of us are actually nervous of how dd will behave
Ds is mostly sassing dh and soap-dodging, horrid little pup
Water and walking OK, eating all right. Ridiculously, watching a lithe and well-maintained Meryl Streep warbling on the big screen made me realise that I am 45 tomorrow and DO NOT LOOK GOOD LIKE HER.
My norks are not a good case study in your situation L & S but I hope you get some good advice
hope your bites have calmed down bundy - and, Mavis, is this a permanent return or a flying visit? Good luck with the packing.
WWW, any news on local job thingy?

Marina · 30/07/2008 16:03

October good for me too

LoveAndSqualor · 30/07/2008 16:41

Ah Marina, am not expecting any advice, tbh, more a brisk dose of reality to prepare me for the worst

Sorry to hear your DD's being pesky - though is it perhaps the case that she'll behave better for a babysitter than for you? Which obviously is scant consolation in the day to day scheme of things but may make is easier to trip out for your birthday with a light heart. I'm sort of half and half at her bandying about accusations of adultery - your poor DH!

Cammelia · 30/07/2008 17:19

Good evening to all

What did you think of Mamma Mia Marina, I went with dd and found it very funny and got into it straight away after being prepared not to!

I especially liked the bit after the actual film finished

I am being xtra bootcamp good as my virus/cold thing is making it easy to not want wine, chocolate etc

  • wish I had some of that Ben and Jerry's phish food though Batters
WideWebWitch · 30/07/2008 17:38

Oh Marina, a very happy birthday for tomorrow! That's nice that dh has booked somethnig for you, I hope you have a lovely time and dd behaves herself. Was Mamma Mia good? Sorry and much, much sympathy on dodgy tummy, god it's horrible isn't it? On the silver lining side, I did lose weight Blimey at the adultery, she must have heard some poor woman talking about being left, surely?

L&S, I was thinking on reading your first line re you and dp going out "ooh, she'll be able to drink at least" - realise that says a lot about me! and then saw that you're thinking the same, also seeng the silver lining! I hope it goes ok. You need to put on weight by the sound of it, so as to look all plump and dewy, India says so too, esp if you're over 40 as I am but you're not I don't think.

Batters, that sounds like great progress re dd, fab that sometihng seems to be working, that's great.

Mavis, au contraire, I love vicarious carbs! Do tell! Sorry you're not feeling great though. Good luck with packing, I HATE it.

Ts, much sympathy on the summer clothes and feeling bleurgh in this heat, me and Moonshine are with you there. Aah at dd on a sleepover, hope she has a lovely time. Goodness, that was some fire at Weston wasn't it? what a shame.

Ureb, oh no on your stomach too, and more heartfelt sympathy from me. oh goodness at colleague's outfit too.

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 30/07/2008 17:49

Yes, happy birthday marina! I'm sure your dd will be horribly lovely for the babysitter!

Dd had a good time at the sleepover - she feels very grown up now! Can't believe she will be 5 next week though.

WideWebWitch · 30/07/2008 17:49

Today:

4 chipolatas

and then lunch at meeting, aaarrrghh, I took a canape with prawns and just ate the prawns, a piece of quiche and left the crust but ate the pastry base and the insides, a teeny triangle sandwich (so prob half a slice of bread in all) with cheese and ham in it and left the crust too (would have been too embarrassing to have picked all the insides out completely leaving the bread) and 2 chicken satay sticks. Was still STARVING but then we left and colleague bought WHITE CHEWY CHOCOLATE COOKIES and offered one to me on the train and I said no and he said "GO on!" and so I did. After doing so well at lunchtime too Never mind, came home and ate some prawns and aoili and having spatchcock poussin for supper. Really want wine again but won't.

Re the job nearer home they may want to see me (one senior person said re my cv "she's got exactly what we're looking for") but the director in charge isn't back from holiday until the 9th Aug so that's the earliest I'll hear about an interview. So no news for a while yet. I don't know for sure about this contract but it's v likely to end early as a) there's been a restructure and I think most of my area is disappearing to another part of the business and b) I haven't much to do and they can DEFINITELY do without me right now - I've done the hard stuff. It's highly unlikely that they're going to carry on paying lots of ££££ for something that no longer really needs doing or at least not for much longer.

So I am sending my cv out and spending all day on the phone to agencies working from home on Friday, we'll see what happens. It's better to look for a new contract now than mid October when the market will have quietened down a lot. And maybe I'll end up with something nearer home hey? So maybe another silver lining too!

moonshine · 30/07/2008 18:44

I leave too much time between posting here because I always come to this thread wanting to make loads of comments to people but always forget and/or realise how really long and more boring it would make my posts. Felt I needed to get that off my chest.

WWW - honestly, one cookie will not undo your hard work, however annoying I imagine it was after resisting far worse (doesn't it always work like that that though). Just to make you feel better, I have craved wine too (dcs arguing is driving me to the edge) but have given in and am working towards having a glass now (extenuating circumstances - have just survived a double playdate and someone dropped a toy bomb on my house - and it includes a million tiny hama beads - and sand. Thank the lord we were out of glitter).

L&S re: boobs - I'm not convinced bfing actually changed mine in the long run really, but then they didn't start off from a good position, so to speak, so I probably am not the best to be offering words of encouragement, I'm afraid.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Marina - hope you enjoy your time out and let the babysitter take the strain.

I wanted to present my 2nd anti-rage pills report now that Auntie Flo has arrived (hee hee, don't you just hate that expression). I definitely raged a lot less the week before. Still felt occasional melancholy (although I'm sure that was partly due to the birthday disaster) and the odd 'red mist' moment but I am now convinced the pills are working and have made a big difference.

Spot-watch: I also did not have the usual humdingers this month, just a small crop around the chin. Long may that continue.

I don't know which part it is, but I would wholeheartedly recommend trying the eps/magnesium ok (need to give it at least 3 months to work methinks).

And now my post is yet again far too long so, although I have other things to say, I will now stop and go stroke the wine bottle start clearing up.

bundle · 30/07/2008 18:48

legs do feel like mine again, but i think the bites will scar

happy birthday marina! for tomorrow

you relly don't look a day over 28

xx

WideWebWitch · 30/07/2008 20:46

Bundle, sorry about your legs

Moonshine, thanks for kind words re carbs and and double at wine but not at hama beads and toy bomb, yuk.

Since I am designating Friday as piss about at home day I am almost certainly going to drink tomorrow night as that makes it more or less the start of my holiday

unknownrebelbang · 30/07/2008 22:38

Happy birthday for tomorrow Marina. Have a lovely day. There seems to be a lot of Leo/leo children on this thread.

[Shock] at DD though!

Good luck with the jobhunt www.

Thanks for the sympathy, feeling much better today, apart from ankles.

Trust the talking went well this evening L&S.

Have been out for tea with some former colleagues (I received compliments on my hair; looking well and having lost weight, badabing! - my legs were hidden, though...). Have also dumped deposited DS2/DS3 with my dad until tomorrow evening. Chester Zoo beckons, apparently. Oooh, just realised we've got a child-free hour in the morning whilst DS1 does his papers.

Took DS2/DS3 swimming this morning before work, only I forgot DS2's trunks (he'd got them ready, I switched his towel not realising they were inside). I must say that I expected a shouting match, but he was wonderful - he laughed, told us to have our swim anyway, and then sat on the side with a bag of crisps.

OldGregg · 30/07/2008 22:43

I would love to do October meet-up! DD1s party is w/e of the 18th though. It's DoNB by the way, I'm just having a Boosh appreciation moment!

Wishing speedy recoveries to all the upset tummies.

bundle - huge sympathies for the bites. I've had two horsefly bites so far this year, one on my ankle and one on elbow - both swelled up to absurd proportions. Grrr.

L&S - it often feels like your post b/f norks have collapsed or become too soft & squidgy but that's mostly because you've gotten used to them being rock hard with milk. Mine were fine after 3 DCs (which = 2.6 years of b/f) but I may have pushed my luck this time!

Archie also sleeping through - 8.30pm until 6.30am last night.

I bought 8 huge carrots at the farmers market this morning and I've eaten them all already. I've also devoured bagel & marmite for breakfast, brie & salad for lunch, peach, shortbread biscuit, 4 Lily O'Brien chocolates, pork dijon, couscous & green beans for dinner. Plenty of water.

I've been married for 8 years .
Happy Birthday for tomorrow Marina, I hope you enjoy your evening.

Phew! I know what you mean about long posts moonshine!!! I should try and be like cod and just type 3 illegible words. (and stop with the emoticons)!

tortoiseSHELL · 31/07/2008 09:11

www, I think everyone should have 'piss about at home' days built in to the week, in addition to the weekend. ANd chores/DIY should be banned on piss about at home day.

I know what you mean about the number of posts - I always worry that I'm going to leave someone out, or if I pop on and just write something about me, then you will all hate me and think I'm too self-obssessed to read the rest of the thread! I do read it honestly!

Dh has gone away for 4 days - not back till late Sunday evening. So I am contemplating what to do with the children for 4 days. Dh's sister + family are coming Saturday late eve-Sunday early morning, and ds1 has a friend today.

Boot camp - not bad yesterday - had a ham sandwich on really nice brown bread with seeds in, a couple of small 'crackers for cheese', but no cheese, and a couple of pickled onions . Am going to take the opportunity of dh being away to not have to cook in the evenings, but to eat more healthy snacks earlier on in the day.

Marina, hope you're having a lovely birthday.

DofN - your menu sounds delicious!

ureb - excellent on losing weight comments! And hurrah for your ds!

Hope all the tummies are better!

feetheart · 31/07/2008 09:40

Happy Birthday Marina - I can recommend 45 (though only have 20 days left to appreciate it!)

Happy Anniversary DofN - did you do anything nice to celebrate or were the carrots as far as you got?

L&S - re norks. Bf my 2 for a total of 28 mths and norks are in good shape, actually gained a cup size with each baby which for an A cup veteran has been fantastic - I actually have a cleavage now And I'm not the youngest (see above!) so there is hope. As DofN says it does take a while for them/you to re-adjust but then you head to La Senza and splurge

Well tummy lurgy really struck here, I have just had my first solid food in 3 days (bananas on toast - BRAT diet rules!!) and am trying to take it very easy. On the slightly alarming plus-side not eating for 3 days has made me loose 5lbs so I am now below Bootcamp target weight I set myself less than 2 weeks ago Rather drastic approach to weight loss methinks!!

chutneymary · 31/07/2008 09:46

No time to read posts, but happy birthday Marina . Have a great day and a lovely evening with DH tonight.

Hello everyone else.

Cammelia · 31/07/2008 11:49

Happy Birthday Marina

Surely shome typo though, you must mean 35 ?

My ill thingy has progressed to digestive tract as well. Is it this thread?

MavisGrind · 31/07/2008 13:31

I know I said I was just lurking but wanted to day Happy Birthday to Marina!

Hope everyone is on the mend, off to lurk again

OldGregg · 31/07/2008 17:38

Thks feetheart - no we didn't do anything special for our anniversary but we did take the DCs to Penshurst Place for the afternoon and it was lovely.

Today I've had cereal for breakfast, bacon, eggs & tomatoes for lunch, shortbread and we're having pizza delivered because DH, who was supposed to be cooking, had forgotten to get anything ready.

Swimming again today and I did lots of lengths, but the pool is only about 10m long so it doesn't equate to very far! And I've just walked the dog with a very heavy baby in the sling. So big tick for exercise. Lots of moisturiser and Flexitol but my heels are still very rough.

bundle · 31/07/2008 17:39

OG - there's an epidemic of horrid insect bites, wanted to do aprogramme on it but fear have left it too late for this season...

yoyo · 31/07/2008 19:13

Hello all. Trying and failing to catch up with everyone's news. Been incredibly busy over the last couple of weeks with friends (late nights, far too much food and wine) and a visit to folks in Wales. Had one glorious day where I burnt on our fave beach (rather old sunscreen rather than not applying it) but it has rained non-stop since then which is why we left early. Had a lovely day in Oxford today and tried out Jamie Oliver's new place - everything excellent apart from my lasagne which mostly consisted of ricotta cheese. Would definitely go again though.
Have my appointment at breast clinic in mid-Sept but have our holiday in France to take my mind off it (lump still there but don't think it is any bigger).
Not been to gym for a week thanks to all the above but feel generally content despite the photos that a friend sent us which almost reduced me to tears (sigh).
Have a week of healthy eating and activity planned and I am looking forward to it.

WideWebWitch · 31/07/2008 19:23

Hello everyone

hurrah, I am on holiday until the 11th. Well, supposedly working tomorrow but hey

today

4 chipolatas
smoked salmon and boursin wraps
2 baby tomatoes
few slices chorizo, small piece of brie
brazil nuts
Emental babybel and baby Austrian smoked cheese
mouthful of left over poussin
and about to have a fat steak with garlic butter
already 1.5 large glasses of cold white wine down and it's most delicious

hope Marina is having fab time as I type
well done to everyone else

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 31/07/2008 19:25

DofN - hope you've had a lovely wedding anniversary! And www, hurrah for the holidays!

Today;

lots of water, tea, diet coke, small bread roll, 1 'nice' sausage, ketchup, a couple of olives, some rocket salad, a glass of orange squash. Dh is away, so won't bother with tea tonight, will watch something nice on the tv and then have an early night.

WideWebWitch · 31/07/2008 19:31

Yoyo, glad you have an appt and lump is same and you have a holiday to look forward to.
Feetheart, oh no, not you too with the stomach lurgy, more sympathy from me. I'm still not 100% right but ok enough to work, thank goodness (no work = no pay)
Dofn, how fab that Archie is sleeping through! And Happy anniversary!

Ts, ikwym about responding to everyone's posts but just to say that I don't give a stuff if no-one responds to me personally, I know I read all posts, just don't have tme to respiond to all and I expect it#s the same for everyone. For me, just typing out how I feel/what I ate/etc helps so I like posting even if nobody acknowledges it iyswim. I CERTAINLY don't think people are self obsessed if they post and don't have time/energy/inclination to respond to everyone else. Gosh, we're all so busy.
I read every post though, just don't always get the chance/time to respond.
