Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.

  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it

  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can

  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day

  • Apply body cream as often as possible

  • Use hand cream

  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos

  • Eat healthily

  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.
Apologies for belated new thread.

Morning all!
WWW, I am so sorry you are still crook but hurrah for nice boss and squitting at home, so to speak. Pls pls pls don't hate me, but do you think hardline IPD is wise on a gyppy tummy? Could you bear to do a day or so of BRAT to calm your poor old innards down?
L&S, I agree with all the others here - that sounds like a cathartic and mutually courageous session you had with dh there. I too have been wondering how you are so thanks for reporting back. I can happily corroborate that www is a beacon-status example of finding happiness again and keeping several different types of family bond alive and flourishing
Photos of ME in hat may have to wait but the one of ds is pretty silly and will try and upload that to profile tonight for time-limited viewing. Also have photos of tiny bridesmaids dancing on people's graves (inadvertently), if you please
Am bootcamping lite as have loads to do before taking some time off to be with the dcs, but water and healthy eating are still hanging in there
Am awestruck with batters' walking - fab, hope dd's poor mouth recovers soon
And sorry you are having a wobbly time chutney - try and take it as easy as you can. Could you totter as far as Brockwell Park (we only have an open drain aka the Hornfair "Lido" in SE London proper, alas, I'd sooner swim in our wheelie bin )
bundy, I feel a bit bereft when either or both is absent. Ds was on a treat outing all day Monday and the evening, without him blethering on about sodding Pokemon Pearl was really...quiet. I am quite happy knitting, chugging a spot of Leffe and watching ITV3 old-lady telly too (aaahh, Poirot)
moonshine, I'd love to emulate some of the fitter walkers/runners on here (where are you cerys?) - fancy setting a goal and a date?
Must go and crunch biscuits data, sigh
Adios!

Marina, you are wise and right. Dr said sausages too rich, have toast x 2, 1 with peanut butter and 1 with strawberry jam in front of me and it's DELICIOUS. Thank you.

Ah, stagecoach Batters, dd will be attending our local one next week. What is your one doing, ours is Annie.

I'm getting used to dd going on trips as she has been on various over the last few years, but also boarding 2 consecutive nights per week during term time. I miss her but I know she is having fun without me

Next school year she is upping it to 3.

Swimming, chutney, in my tiny little outdoor pool at home, so only tiny laps but can have it all to myself.

Am only part of the London crowd psychologically as opposed to physically

Hey all, zooming through, but just wanted to say thanks again for words of wisdom and kindness. Will be back on properly tomorrow (friends coming over in a moment). WWW, glad to hear you're eating toast! D&V plus sausage a dangerous combo, I can quite see. Marina, photo of hat essential and I lol'd at tiny bridesmaids dancing on graves

Hello all, I am better, hurrah, hurray! I took the day off anyway as I couldn't stand another day of getting up at 6am only to find that I wasn't well enough to go anywhere.
So dd and I are going to potter about in our pyjamas and then go out to a restaurant for lunch. I had PIZZA and lots of WINE last night dh said 'bloody hell, you're living dangerously' but all is fine. And I've just eaten a bacon sandwich, which was delicious. Back on the IPD tomorrow I think, today I will eat carbs and enjoy them and the fact that my stomach accepts food!

Well I am seeing out my duties as a 41 year-old ready to embrace chundering towards my mid-forties.

L&S - I'm so glad for you that your 'summit' was ok - I think acknowledgement from both of you that there are possible fundamental problems is a positive step, whichever way it takes you. Dh and I take the 'no talking' approach, and we are in one of those periods atm - wish I had your courage.

Chutney - hope you're feeling better and start glowing soon - but not from the humidity!

WWW - funnily enough I have been living on toast and crisps. My tummy is still slightly dodgy so I have also cut down heavily on milk products, which seems to help me, but shall no doubt be able to 'force' some alcohol down today as it is the start of my holiday (just staying at home next week). I kept my black (surprise!) dress from La Redoute because when I first tried it on I thought it looked fab but now realise it makes me look like a barrel with exposed breasts (didn't noticed how low cut it was!). We shall do better this autumn/winter (surely you have dropped at least one dress size?). Oh and your dd and my ds are practically the same age!

Marina - you're on! Tbh I am clinging on to being able to do more things from next January when ds starts school [quivers with excitement]. I will have a whole Friday all to myself to indulge my fancies catch up a little bit more with life. How about some spring/early summer mega walk? I will need to research.

I feel guilty when everyone talks about how much they miss their dcs when they are away. I must admit I do love my no-kids time as, when they are with me, they are almost constantly about 1 foot away from me (even when I go to the loo ) or shouting out 'mummy' for no good reason.

But haircut turned out ok (phew). My hair was so incredibly shiny - needless to say it has already lost its lustre this morning but at least it is not peppered with wiry grey bits now.

I shall now attempt to have a bath, put on a face pack and ignore dcs constant 'mummy' shouts....

Hello all, so glad you're feeling better www! Enjoy the carbs!

Glad the wedding went well marina! L&S - well done - that sounds like a discussion which needed to be had, and I hope whichever way things move on that things improve.

Last day of term here, so am psyching myself up for the holidays - we are not going away at all because of finances, so have a LOT of time to fill with the children which is a little daunting, but do have a London wedding to go to in August which is exciting - tell me, will a wedding in Wimbledon with reception being 'tea in the church' require uber-posh or will top and skirt be ok? (Bride would prefer to be in Las Vegas I think, so she won't mind, but I need some London advice!). The last London wedding I went to was in Knightsbridge and was VERY VERY posh, but fortunately I was playing the organ so could hide!

Bootcamp - yesterday was ok - went for a lovely walk in Blaise Castle woods - maybe 4-5 miles. Lots of water, but pizza for tea.

I was stitched up by my SIL who wanted a Hat Wedding. Me, MIL, and sundry other persons over 70 were the only ones in hats (not counting a couple of jaunty fascinators). I think a top and skirt will be fine, personally.
I had another Brisle friend moaning about your preposterous long term - hope it all concludes well
Glad you are feeling better www, flour is glue you know, so that's gummed the norty bacteria into submission
Moonshine - Race for Life maybe - with batters? Would love to do this
Must get back to work - four days (incl today) and counting.
Have a good day all

WideWebWitch · 25/07/2008 10:37

lol at hat stitch up Marina!, v naughty of SIL but then, she is, isn't she generally?

Tortoiseshell, my dad used to take us 'squirrel spotting' in those woods when I was a child, I've only just remembered that now you've posted about them. No idea but I think it's ok to wear a skirt and top to a wedding as long as they're smart. No-one cares what the guests are wearing imo.

Moonshine, glad your haircut wasn't a revenge one in the end. Ikwym about the La Redoute dresses(I always want to put a 'b' in there when I type it so it's La Redoubte!) - I have three, one their so called 'best dress' and 2 other black dresses, all are pretty low cut and I wouldn't wear them without a camisole underneath I tihnk, no-one needs to see my cleavage at my age! I am sincerely hoping falling off the no carb wagon temporarily doesn't completely de rail me. I think I might have nearly dropped a dress size, the closethes I was wearing at the start of this diet in May are loose on me now, so that's good. I'd like to get to the lower end of that dress size and one more size down and then I'll be happy. What I really want to get to is the size I was when I met dh, I was honestly very happy with my body then, I wasn't slim but not fat either, just nicely curvy.

I'm soooo fed up.

Me and DH are winding each other up; the boys are winding me up (even though they're not doing anything particularly out of order); blah blah blah. My email buddy/fellow parent and her arrogant pfb is winding me up (and I'm under no illusion that I'm no doubt reciprocating with my 3).

The scales are winding me up - the new ones weigh half a stone heavier, and nothing's moving, and it's disheartening. I'm trying to up exercise, although will acknowledge that I'm eating slightly more due to school holidays.

The house is upsidedown, and I wont' be home til 8ish tonight.

Admittedly, work's not so bad at the moment, except we've just started a pilot so staff are stressed, the manager retires next month; his dep is off sick (at least another month), so could all turn to rats any time. Oh, and I really didn't appreciate being patronised by the prick from IT, who's worse than ever because he's actually got to do some work as his asst is on hols. (He actually made me shriek in the office yesterday - I did wait until after I'd put the phone down.)

Anyhoo, I've issued a dictat to DH that he is to take me out tomorrow night to somewhere expensive...forgetting we'd said we were taking the boys out for the end-of-term celebratory thing which should have occurred last weekend.

aarrgghh.

Goodness, it's weddings a-go-go on here at the moment, isn't it? Just had an invitation to my second of the summer (already have one in two weeks' time, at which I'm reading, erk). I have one dress, which I will be wearing to both. As a concession to the fact that pretty much exactly the same people will be there, I have decided I will jazz it up with different tights . No hats for me, happily.

WWW, glad you're feeling better - and thanks v much for telling me your post-DS story. The fact that you're so clearly happy, and that your situation seems so amicable, gives me hope, should we choose to go down that route.

Ureb, sorry you're having a crapsville day. Expensive outing sounds very sensible; can you do end-of-term celebrating on a different day?

Moonshine, hurrah for the haircut; sorry to hear you and DH are having a no-talking bit at the moment. It's a pita, isn't it?

Good day today. Took Kit to Hapmstead Heath with friends, lots of striding around (suncreamed up, of course), eating of fruit and salads and other such summery fair, and generally messing about. Wanted to swim but didn't quite manage it in the end. This evening looking less promising however: we're off for a week to DP's parents' (a terrifying prospect at the best of times; they have Opinions and aren't afraid of airing them. And they're horrifyingly stingy when it comes to the booze). So will spend the next few hours, packing, sorting and generally screwing my courage to the sticking place. Ho hum. Should be online quite a bit, though, so will update with tales from the front line. Have great weekends, meanwhile.

Oh bless, Bundle at your dd! Sweet.

Marina, your dh is very handsome and your children look divine, as does the hat. Was it slightly glamorous wearing a hat? I love the idea of wearing one I have to say, it does look fab. Good luck with the party, goodness, does that mean she's FIVE? Where ARE these childrens lives going so bloody fast? It's probably us though, isn't it, Mark Kermode said as you get older times seems to speed up and that seems true to me. Sorry, have mentioned that before I'm sure. Old doom monger that I am!

DofN, sand pedicure sounds lovely.

Unreb, sorry life is tough going atm. I have new super digital scales that I'm NOT USING as I am interested in waht I've lost, not the truth and since I started off on the old ones I am at least comparing like for like. Could you do the same? As I get nearer where I want to be maybe I'll go to the new ones but in the meantime it helps me to think 'well I started at xxx on these and I'm now xxx so I have lost 1 stone 8lbs.' Which I have. I hope you had a good end of term celebratory thing and it was relaxing. At least it's the weekend now. IT gits can be v annoying, liked the one in The Office "it's not into the Dragon, it's Enter the Dragon" - remember that? Very funny imo.

L&S, weddings, eww, I haven't been to one in AGES, my friends are all moving onto divorces now as I keep saying, people must tihnk I am marriage voice of doom, I'm not really, being very happily married myself! That sounds like a lovely day and glad my tale helped minutely. Oh god re the in laws, will they at least help with ds or give you a bit of a break of any kind? Do post and we'll provide online tea and sympathy. Shudder at stinginess of booze too, how awful! Hmm, opinionated In laws AND no booze = dire combination!

Tortoiseshell, we're not going anywhere either and we have a week off the week after next but we are going to do day trips and have a lovely time anyway. Do you have things planned? You are nearer beaches than I am, could you do a few outings to the beach and that kind of thing?

I had a LOVELY day with dd yesterday, we went to a cafe for lunch and I had brie and cranberry panini and half of dd's prawn baguette and a full fat Coke . Then in the evening we got the projector out and had Chinese and watched 3 films back to back! Dd watched the first with us, The Water Horse, very sweet film, I liked it a lot. Then Dh and I watched 2 crappy blockbusters, The Jumper and Con Air, an oldie but a goodie, and of course the fantastic Mr Cusack to drool over. I've noticed Hayden Christensen looks very like a young Mel Gibson. Not attractive imo for it though. Ate some Singapore noodles, some duck pancakes and hoisin sauce, some spare ribs and lots of Cava. It was a lovely evening, really great. I cannot believe how relaxed I am for a week of NOT commuting! Roll on end of November.

On the work side I might have an interview in a few weeks (hiring director on holiday atm) for a perm job near home - 11 miles away - and may be faced with the dilemma of halving my pay in exchange for work life balance. I don't have a decision to make as I haven't even had an interview yet, let alone been offered it but it could be something to think about. If I got it it could be good because it could start when this contract ends which means a) all our debts will be paid so I could take the drop in pay b) I won't have any period out of work, not that that would matter once a) has happened. We're SO nearly there!

So feeling happy due to being better and having had a week not commuting. Happy weekend everyone.

Is it your dd's actual b/day today? If so she shares a b/day with Mick Jagger, he's only 60 years older than her

www,I'm so old I know people having second divorces nowadays

Food today: v. healthy

Dd is coming back home today from her week away, she always seems to grow up so much when she's been away from home so I'm expecting her attitude to be at least 13 (she's 11)

Sobernow, so SO sorry to hear about the cat. I remember how traumatic it is when an animal dies when you're small. Hope you all battle through today. Would getting a new cat be a wise move, to help the DC? Or is it too soon?

Marina, I missed the pics! Can we have a second showing?

WWW, Con Air a huge favourite with me, to my shame . One of the daftest, funniest films ever (though should confess when I went to see it at the cinema when it came out years ago with a friend, we'd just finished some exams at uni and had smoked a rather large spliff, which may account in part for the laughter ).

Mainly, checking in to report the Booze News. Last night, it being a Saturday, I was hopeful - and indeed, I was presented with a glass of white wine pre-dinner. Splendid, I thought - but this, apparently, was just to lull me into a false sense of security. Another half glass at dinner, and that was it. Drifted off to bed in a state of mild despair around the 9.30pm mark. On the plus side, a week of this will doubtless do wonders for my liver (though nothing at all, I imagine, for my temperament).

Oof, hot day again. DS asleep after morning of uber-grump (expect he's missing the booze too - breast milk suddenly a lot less sedative ). I'm doing a bit of work, then I imagine we'll go for a walk later. Hope people are enjoying their sundays.

Report
WideWebWitch · 27/07/2008 15:21

Oh Sobernow, how sad about your cat and your dds reaction to it, poor them.

L&S, oh no on the wine front! Can you just go and buy some and then help yourself or would that be considered rude? Con Air is great fun I think, I love Steve Buscemi's line(just looked it up):

"What if I told you insane was working fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years at the end of which they tell you to piss off; ending up in some retirement village hoping to die before suffering the indignity of trying to make it to the toilet on time? Wouldn't you consider that to be insane?"

And there are so many great moments, it's a great trashy action movie. John Malkovitch is fabulous too.

Cam, lol at second divorces. I hope it's lovely to have your dd back.

We had such a lovely day yesterday, dd had a friend over in the morning so we had a picnic lunch:

crayfish tails
yummy Waitrose salmon mousse with smoked salmon and prawns on top
cambozola

and then went to a friends house so dd could play with their dd in the afternoon and they invited us to stay for a bbq so dh came over too (he'd been to the cinema on his own to see Batman) and I had

a burger
a salmon steak
some spinach salad
some crisps, oops
Cava, wine

and I had bacon and eggs for breakfast yesterday and today. However, today oh no, my bloody stomach isn't quite right again, sob. I have just had lunch though so we'll see, hoping it was just a one off (sorry!), lunch was:

cambozola
port salut
prawns and aioli
quails eggs and celery salt
spinach salad
tomatoes

all very nice and have just sat and read the sunday papers and shortly off to get my car as we left it lst night. Will start another thread this evening. Hope everyone's having a nice weekend.
