Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.
Apologies for belated new thread.

Harrogate's lovely, and I heart Betty's.

(The boys are shocked about Weston, TS, we've spent a couple of holidays there in recent years).

WideWebWitch · 28/07/2008 22:17

Unreb, the London dungeon is great imo but quite scary, are yours all over 12? (or hard?!) I thought it was a fab fab day out, I took ds last year. Genuinely chilling and very well done. Book in advance online and then you have to turn up at the right time and you get fast track entry, otherwise the qs are around the block. Allow a good few hours for it.
Can you get a travelodge nearer in or was H'row the only one free? Another tip is take soap, shampoo, conditioner etc, they don't have them but they're v good clean basic rooms and a bargain.

Oh and gladf you had a lovely evening with your dh.

tortoiseSHELL · 28/07/2008 22:18

Ds1 has been obsessively watching the news about Weston Ureb - it is actually quite shocking when you see the pics, and also how quickly it went - 2 hours from fire starting to no pavillion left!

tortoiseSHELL · 28/07/2008 22:20

Ureb - a friend of mine took her kids to London, and they spent quite a lot of time in one of the parks - possibly Hyde Park? - wherever the Diana memorial thing is, and she said there was a massive pirate ship to play on which the girls LOVED - will see if I can find a link!

tortoiseSHELL · 28/07/2008 22:21

This is it

unknownrebelbang · 28/07/2008 22:26

DS3 will be 10 and he's the one who wants to go most (although DS2 has told him it's scary). Will take a look online, thanks for the tip.

We went for the cheapo offer, and Heathrow was the only one available for several days in a row when we booked, so that's the one we went for. I know it's not ideal, but tbh, alternatives were going to cost a fortune (two rooms required) and we wanted cheap and cheerful but reliable (at least accommodation-wise) this time, due to next year's holiday(s).

unknownrebelbang · 28/07/2008 22:27

Thanks TS, will take a look.

WideWebWitch · 28/07/2008 22:27

My ds was 9 when we went and is quite wussy and was ok. Half way round he said he wanted to go out and I wouldn't let him (couldn't see how to tbh!) and he's glad I didn't.
Oh I see re H'row, it'll be fine, and as it's end of the line you'll get seats on the tube in. You'll have a lovely itme!

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 28/07/2008 22:30

Hope so!

Was wondering if we wouldn't have been better off going to the seaside for a few days R&R after such an exhausting few months, but I think we're all looking forward to it.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 28/07/2008 23:03

tshell, awful about the pier burning but the photo's are amazing. Do you think it will be rebuilt?

I've had a lovely day (except for the badger incident!). Library this morning with all 4 DCs, where we bumped into very good friends who have just returned from Italy, so probably a bit too noisy for the venue but Monday is usually toddlers storytime and we weren't as unruly as they are!

We walked the dog in the woods to avoid the heat and then we all went swimming at a neighbours house - and the neighbour looked after Archie whilst the rest of us cooled off. So now I feel happy to have done some exercise and I feel all nice and stretched out!

Food - toasted bagel with marmite, apple, 4 Ryvita with cream cheese, shortbread biscuit, tarragon chicken, rosti & runner beans, slice of buttered bread, 3 raw carrots. I'm trying to avoid going into the kitchen as I've run out of carrots and will end up troughing crisps or biscuits instead.

Everything else good - even moisturised my feet!

LoveAndSqualor · 29/07/2008 06:27

Morning all, DS and I up with the lark today, but .... he slept through from around half seven to 5.15 this morning! My body is in shock

Ureb, if you want to do the Eye, can I recommend the London Aquarium? Right nextdoor to the Eye and great fun - perfect for a 10-year-old, I'd've thought.

Tshell, I love Harrogate (have an aunt who lives there). And I LOVE Betty's. 10 years, wow! Worth celebrating.

Bundle, I too have an infected bite! On my leg, grimmetty-grim. Sympathies. Cocktail of drugs here too.

Had a serious look in the mirror last night and decided that it is time to start exercising again. Have no muscles At All. I'm thinking a bit of running and ideally a bit of pilates, if I can get to a class. Am world's worst runner, though: v slow and panty. But definitely the easiest thing to fit in around ds.

We went to the beach yesterday and swam in the sea, lovely. Sand-pedicure also worked a treat.

Booze news: last night, we shared two bottles of beer. Between four of us. Horrifying. Task for today: source a hipflask.

chutneymary · 29/07/2008 07:42

Hope you're not too hungover L&S . You need to source their brand and replace regularly. Just take your empties home.

It's a shock when they do their first long sleep. I thought terrible things about both mine and went with trepidation to the cot. Hope you feel refreshed.

Had 3 hours myself as DD1 too hot to sleep. Feel pants. I foresee a quiet day.

feetheart · 29/07/2008 08:12

I'm sneaking in again
I seem to be able to keep up with posts but then have no time to post myself, think I need to adjust work/MN priorities!
Thank you for encouragement last week, it did help when I was lapsing. Did OK on motivation to BE GOOD but less well on will-power! However it was a reasonable week overall and did lose a couple of pounds so must be doing something right inspite of abandonning Moron due to embarrasing lack of excercise.

Yesterday was a washout as I felt rough all day with nausea, bloating and V.V. dodgy stomach. Much better this morning and might actually eat something - managed apple juice and 2 slices of toast all day ytesterday.

L&S - well done for having the discussion, DH and I are champion 'head in the sand' people but it always feels much better when we have discussed things.
Not surprised your body is in shock, I always felt more tired for some reason when mine decided to sleep through.
Sea and sand sound lovely, I still really miss the sea, it was a huge part of my childhood.

DofN - ROFL at your badger thread last night
I'd go with the 'if you are hungry then eat' school of thought though the quantities I ate when bf were legendary

Sobernow - so sorry about your cat, how are the DC now? Got our first cat last year and can't imagine life without him now.

WWW - LOL at talking to you gave you stomach, tried it yesterday, didn't work with mine!!! Hope you are really better now.

Right DS up and clamouring for breakfast so I'd better go and be a good Mummy

Sympathy Sobernow!

Feetheart, sorry you've been ill

batters, glad to hear you're feeluing slightly more positive about dd. Hope tonight is better still.

L&S, how many days until you go home? It sounds hellish! Can't you stamp your feet, say "I'M THIRTY FIVE (or whatever you are, obviously!) I WANT SOME WINE!" er no, prob not.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 29/07/2008 21:41

Today

4 chiplotas
salami
port salut
walnuts
spinach salad, eggs, tuna, anchovies, green beans
came in and had lobster which I decadently ordered in Ocado-strop last night (see shopping thread!), which was GORGEOUS and then marinated children breast wrapped in bacon and cooked with garlic and lemons
couldn't be arsed to cook veg
no wine although I SO SO want some, minorly stressful day at work and my contract might finish earlier than Nov, eek. Which would be a pita but at least I have early ish warning. Never mind!
Have to go to bloody Manchester for a meeting tomorrow, really could do without it but there you go.

Roll on our holiday next week.
used sunscreen though
drank water
went to bed at 10.30 last night
no booze
STILL look like crap, how annoying!

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 29/07/2008 22:55

Bootcamp has gone right out of the window. I've got an intermittent upset stomach (although still managing to eat , swollen ankles and 2/3 bites too. I really don't cope well with heat.

Oh hum.

boo hiss if the contract is ended early www.

L&S - did you manage to sleep through too?? Thanks for the tip about the aquarium.

batters thanks for the tips about transport. was thinking Oyster, will check out both sites. DH wants to go to the Maritime Museum. Aren't random acts of kindness spirit-lifting? Was Batman good? And how has DD been today?

Colleague was wearing a pretty top tbh, but it had thick straps and very low cut, it was also loose-fitting so swung about a bit (ergo flashing even more iykwim). I genuinely thought she was going to fall out of it at one point. Apparently last week she wore a low-cut top that also rode up her back when she moved. We work with some pretty high-risk folk, so it's really not a good idea to do this, on so many levels.

tortoiseSHELL · 30/07/2008 00:21

Oh no ureb! I hate upset stomachs! Poor you - hope you're better soon. Www - how is your stomach now? Hope your contract works out ok.

Batters - glad things are a bit better with your dd. How was Batman?

I am feeling a bit bleurgh atm. I feel horribly fat and awful, partly it's the hot weather as I am not good with summer clothes. Prefer thick jumpers. Partly, I would really like another baby, but want to be thin first, or at least a bit thinner.

Dd has gone away for her first ever sleepover and it feels very weird seeing her empty bed! She will be fine, but 4 is quite young I think for a sleepover. Her best friend's family is lovely and she will have a great time though!

Bootcamp today - lots of water, 2 v small slices pizza, small piece bread with ham, salad at both meals. Not much walking, have been ferrying children around all day. no sun, and haven't really been outside, so no sun cream, and as you can see am not in bed, so mixed fortunes today.

MavisGrind · 30/07/2008 11:12

Hello all. I'm still here but lurking. I figure that noone needs to hear about the constant stream of carbs I'm stuffing down in order to stop feeling sick, or the fact that we're leaving Oz in about 10 days and I haven't even begun to sort things out let alone pack them.

So for the sanity of the rest of you lovely bootcampers I shall continue to lurk until I'm a) feeling a bit better and b) back in Blighty.

Hope everyone is well, happy bootcamping for the forseeable..

LoveAndSqualor · 30/07/2008 15:07

Hello campers ...

Batters, we went to see Batman last night too - I felt pretty much as you did - good but not swoon-worthy (though did think Heath Ledger lifted it). Possibly I didn't appreciate it as I should have done due to the fact that I had to watch most of it through my fingers (am crap with violence, absolutely wussy).

Mavis, hello! Long time no see. Whereabouts in Blighty will you be fetching up?

WWW, unfortunately, asking for booze is regarded here as a sign of extreme moral turpitude, so I must resign myself to a dry few days yet ... am heading home on Saturday, a day before DP and DS for a night on my own. There will be wine. Buckets of it, most likely.

DP and I going out for food tonight, and I imagine further Discussion, which I realise is a good thing, but just kind of fills me with dread, tbh. Still - happy thought, just occured! - I can have all the wine I want! Silver lining and all that ...

Bootcampwise, am living a blameless life at the moment. Walking, eating very healthily and so forth. However, the mirror has revealed some unkind truths since I've been here (PILs have a bigger, meaner mirror. Their mirror is, I'm afraid to say, a bit of a bully). And while I am a good half-stone below pre-pg weight thanks to breastfeeding-liposuction, there is a rather worrying amount of wrinkling and sagging going on . I intend to address this via the medium of Pilates. Having made this noble resolution, I'm now off to have a slice of cake.
