Should I return my 12 year old's mascara after breaking my rules?

Recently I bought my 12 year old daughter a black mascara the one condition I had was she was not allowed to wear it to school. This was the first time I had bought her makeup other than lipgloss. She has started wearing it to school and I took it away from her because she did not follow the conditions of not wearing it to school. This was a few days ago and she is a bit mad I have taken it from her. She has apologised and asked for one last chance. Should I give it back to her?

Well that’s me told, right?

Actually though, it’s not ‘fucking obvious’ it’s against the rules because OP has not said that. All you have done is show yourself up. What a horrible person you must be to speak to others with such hostility. I bet you don’t do it IRL though.

I really do

If you don't already, you should go to work without any makeup on in solidarity with your daughter. If you can't do that, you have to ask yourself why.

Don’t be so ridiculous.

Nothing says good parenting like policing a 12 year old’s mascara and surveying mascara use in their peer group😁

Who said anything about policing or surveying? You just completely made that up. Has it not occurred to you that they’re just not interested in wearing mascara?

Strict parents make sneaky children! You are setting her up to tell you lots of lies by being this strict! Let her wear the mascara what harm can it do? They seem to grow up a lot quicker these days! My 14 year old wears lashes to school and sometimes she gets pulled up on them when they are too big but that’s on her!

I’m in my 30s and I still resent how strict my mum was about make up. She wouldn’t let me wear it to school so I’d apply it at school and remove it on the way home. I just wanted to fit in with the other girls and it just taught me to be more sneaky. This is an opportunity to bond with her, teach her about basic make up, concealer and skin care etc and don’t be a miserable bat about a bit of mascara - she could be smoking weed! Of course if it’s against the school rules then that’s different but I doubt it.

DDs go to an all girls school and wear mascara and clear lip gloss - slightly older than OPs DD at 13 and 14. They don’t bother at home unless we are going out but they are bothered for school because everyone else does it and they want to fit in. I got absolutely sick of supporting the school rules and saying no and then turning up and seeing girls with a full face of make up on going in past the head teacher and nothing being said. I’m happy to support school rules if the school also enforces them. DDs know if they get in trouble it’s on them.
I’d keep it the rest of the week OP and then give it back at the weekend, but I’d probably try and wander past the school to see what other girls were doing as I think it’s important to be able to run with the crowd and fit in if you want to.

So I should just hand over my makeup bag to my 12 year old to stop her from taking my makeup without permission and smearing foundation on the walls??

Why on earth would a 12 year old do that? A 6 year old maybe

You ask her, all I get from her when asking why is "leave me alone".
My best guess is she couldn't be bothered to walk over to the sink to wash her hands.
