Help me decide which gown to wear for each event of my 5-day wedding!

I'm getting married next month, and we're having a 5-day wedding celebration. I've finalized my wedding gown for the ceremony, but I'm completely stuck on how to assign my other gowns to the different events.

The schedule is
Day 1: Guest arrivals and welcome
Day 2: Adults-only party with our friends
Day 3: Pre-wedding dinner, where I'll also be doing a special dance with my 16-year-old son
Day 4: Wedding ceremony (I'll be wearing my wedding gown)
Day 5: Farewell brunch

The three gowns in the attached photo are the ones I'm choosing between.

A bit of context
The left navy gown is brand new and was custom-made specifically for the wedding celebrations.
The middle emerald green gown feels the most glamorous and has a dramatic look.
The right black gown is classic, elegant, and a little more understated.

I'm torn about which one belongs to which event. Part of me feels like I should wear the custom-made navy gown for the pre-wedding dinner since it's a meaningful evening and I'll be sharing a dance with my son. On the other hand, the green gown also feels like it deserves one of the bigger events.

If these were your gowns, how would you assign them to Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3? I'd love to hear your reasoning too, especially if you've attended or planned a multi-day wedding.

For the context I'm 44 and yeah I'm the one in all the three pics

Thanks so much! ❤️

Black day one, green day two, navy day three

Black day one, green day two, navy day three

This.

the black is the least special. the green sexy, the blue less so.

so black is classy for arrival. Green is sexy for adults only party and blue for mother daughter dance

Black day one, green day two, navy day three

I would do it exactly the same.

Your hair looks very different in all 3 pictures.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 31/07/2026 16:53

I’d have said the lower key black dress, no 3, for the brunch. The others are very much more evening wear, I’d have thought.

Doh. You didn’t ask about day 5. So all bets are off.

Humble brag? Or a Kardashian? Most people make do with one day.

ModernV · 31/07/2026 16:55

Green day 2
Blue day 3
I guess that leaves black day 1 but I personally would go with something more casual for welcome drinks.

I agree with this too. I like the green dress the best by far. What about day 5?

ParchedGarden · 31/07/2026 16:59

They all look lovely but they all look black on my screen. Are they coloured enough?

What about the last day?

#asking irrelevant questions but never mind

First reply nails it

Black for welcome as it's the least formal
Emerald for night out/party as it is glam
Navy for dance with son, as he's 16 and will be embarrassed enough as it is/you don't want to do a Vicky Beckham 😉😁

They all look black to me too tbh.

I think it’s your screens, they are very clearly the colours she said. Very distinctly so.

And me three.

EverMissWicklowSometimes · 31/07/2026 17:11

That's three black dresses on three different women, but nice try!

Me 4
Never ever heard of 5 days before maybe breakfast the next day.

Overtheatlantic · 31/07/2026 17:16

The black is the most flattering but they’re all quite dated; are your friends usually very glamorous?

LoserWinner · 31/07/2026 17:23

Thank goodness I’m not on your wedding guest list! Five days???? I assume there’s some cultural reason for this, but it seems like a very big ask from your guests.

JustGiveMeReason · 31/07/2026 17:29

All look black to me too.

However, tell us more about the culture where you have 5 days of events as it is difficult for most of us to know what might be best without the experience / understanding of such an event.

for example "Day 1 Guests arrive and Welcome" - if I were 'arriving' somewhere for a few days I'd be very casually dressed, for traveling.

NotOnYourEllie · 31/07/2026 17:32

Love that you are re-wearing old dresses for these events. You look great in all of them.

I would keep the black for the dance with your 16yo as it is the most understated.

Probably the navy for day 1 and the green for day 2

ParchedGarden · 31/07/2026 17:32

Some of you are seeing colours? Wow! I’ve taken a screenshot of what I see, expand the photo as there is a colourful advert in the bottom right, so you can compare.

Yep I’m getting all black too, how strange

I see the colours in what you snagged too. I’m on iPad Pro
