Help me decide which gown to wear for each event of my 5-day wedding!

I'm getting married next month, and we're having a 5-day wedding celebration. I've finalized my wedding gown for the ceremony, but I'm completely stuck on how to assign my other gowns to the different events.

The schedule is
Day 1: Guest arrivals and welcome
Day 2: Adults-only party with our friends
Day 3: Pre-wedding dinner, where I'll also be doing a special dance with my 16-year-old son
Day 4: Wedding ceremony (I'll be wearing my wedding gown)
Day 5: Farewell brunch

The three gowns in the attached photo are the ones I'm choosing between.

A bit of context
The left navy gown is brand new and was custom-made specifically for the wedding celebrations.
The middle emerald green gown feels the most glamorous and has a dramatic look.
The right black gown is classic, elegant, and a little more understated.

I'm torn about which one belongs to which event. Part of me feels like I should wear the custom-made navy gown for the pre-wedding dinner since it's a meaningful evening and I'll be sharing a dance with my son. On the other hand, the green gown also feels like it deserves one of the bigger events.

If these were your gowns, how would you assign them to Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3? I'd love to hear your reasoning too, especially if you've attended or planned a multi-day wedding.

For the context I'm 44 and yeah I'm the one in all the three pics

Thanks so much! ❤️

I see black. This reminds me of the white and gold dress that was also blue to some people 😂

TheBlueKoala · 31/07/2026 18:32

@miamorr I prefer the green one. But why are you having a 5 day long wedding? Are you a celebrity? Just read an article in the paper today about how weddings are ruining the invites finances. Hope you cover their costs..

Funchythesnowwoman · 31/07/2026 18:28

Ok - the middle one is definitely green.
The other 2 both very dark - hard to tell which is black and which is navy.
Do you actually have the dresses to hand or are they in storage somewhere?
Editing to say I wouldn’t describe the green one as a dramatic emerald green though- it’s a dark green 😬

Edited

left one is navy blue, the middle one is dark green, and the right one is black......

They have been sent for cleaning

Humble brag? Or a Kardashian? Most people make do with one day.

Don’t be a Debbie Downer

miamorr · 31/07/2026 16:53

They are from different eras haha

Which eras?

How old are the dresses?

Sandytoesies · 31/07/2026 18:41

They are all very similar so I don’t think it matters, but maybe not the one with the tummy hole for dancing with your son. They are very dark for summer. Are you American? this is not something most English people will be familiar with, pre wedding dinners tend to be smart casual here, and a fairwell brunch I would expect to be totally informal and relaxed.I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and everyone, including the couple, were wearing shorts and T-shirts on arrival. Is this actually for real , it’s a lot!

Ahh, the left picture is the most recent one. The middle one is from around 4 years ago, and the right one is probably from about 2–3 years ago.

The navy blue gown was designed for a wedding. The other two gowns are older designs, around 6 years older

I would wear the black for arrivals party , green one for adults party , navy for pre wedding dinner.

SleepingStandingUp · 31/07/2026 18:44

gown 3 for day 1. it's just welcome stuff so you don't need anything major.
dress 2 for day 2. you want to look fab for your adults party.
dress 1 for day 3. it's custome made so means the most and you have your mother son dance.

butnotlikethatanymore · 31/07/2026 18:44

Black
Green
Blue

in that order. As long as the navy custom-made will be completely secure during your exhibition dance with your son. You don’t want a Beckham / Peaty smouldering outrage clouding the first decade of your married life!

Thank goodness I’m not on your wedding guest list! Five days???? I assume there’s some cultural reason for this, but it seems like a very big ask from your guests.

Do people genuinely not understand that different brightness/contrast settings on your individual screens will affect how the colours display? If someone else can determine which dress is blue, green and black and you can't, it is your personal screen settings that are the issue.

It's really tickled me that someone posted a screenshot showing the blue, green and black dresses going 'see, they're black on my screen'...yes, and they're still blue, green and black on mine when I look at your screenshot...on my screen

3 black dresses in every single photo!🤣

A 5 day wedding requiring ' gowns' sounds very....un British. Are you based in the USA?

unless you know ‘most people’ you don’t know what most people ‘make do’ with. It’s ok to be jealous or triggered… but at least try and hide it ffs.

Funchythesnowwoman · 31/07/2026 17:07

They all look black to me too tbh.

Me too. Sorry.

one is blue, one is green and one is black. People are allowed to be your concept of ‘un-British’. You sound jealous.

SleepingStandingUp · 31/07/2026 18:52

regardless the discussion on colours , the order seems unanimous.

black
green
blue

what is everyone doing in the daytimes op? I assume arrivals is probably in time for settling into accommodation, dinner and drinks and bed.

is it somewhere interesting enough to do something in the day or is everyone sat around in hotel rooms waiting for the party / dinner?

butnotlikethatanymore · 31/07/2026 18:52

Was it Beckham and Peaty? I feel I might have mixed up my slebs.

Yes - there was a Ramsay involved, wasn’t there?

Whatever, hope you get the gist.

no thanks, I'll rock up for 1 for the wedding and be home in bed for 10.

rightoguvnor · 31/07/2026 18:57

If that is you, you’re a very beautiful woman with an amazing figure.
Sorry, none of those dresses says happy celebration to me.

Funchythesnowwoman · 31/07/2026 18:58

Are British people restricted to one day weddings ?
