The end of summer lies ahead, but we're hoping for more bling!

Actually, I've noticed that Leonor's suit is sequinned, not obvious at first.
I like the raspberry colour of Sofia's outfit.

Ooh! I don't care for the style of the suit, but that shimmer is properly glamorous.

Catching up a bit, I liked Sophie's wide-sleeved dress. I thought the pattern was about the right size and the placement was well-judged - much more effective than the rather crude bilaterally symmetric designs that are so common. I'm not fond of cobalt blue, but plenty of people are.

Camilla's circle print dress is a re-wear. This is at least the third time she's worn it - I can remember admiring the print and silky-looking fabric last summer. Camilla doesn't seem to do big or bold prints, but she's got quite a good eye for the smaller patterns and clearly has a soft spot for slightly quirky prints (elephants, dogs, assorted feathers etc.).

Letizia looks very glam! I like the colour of Sofia's outfit but it feels a bit old for her. She should give it to Stephanie of Luxembourg, it looks very much in her wheelhouse!

Maireas · 18/07/2026 21:35

Oh dear no. Not black espadrilles! The white ones or the sandals look fine. Leonor has a good line in jackets.

I love seeing the pictures of the Spanish Royals at the moment and how grown up the girls now are. A bit like Amalia in the Netherlands, Leonor’s really beginning to find her own style - I like the shimmery suit.

smilesy · 18/07/2026 21:44

I don’t normally have a problem with espadrilles, but I am not keen on those with long straps, even in white, with that dress. It goes without saying that the black are all kinds of wrong, but that style is just too heavy for that floaty frock. The white sandals work much better, as would a white espadrille with a simple ankle straap

I slipped down a flight of stairs at work six weeks before my wedding wearing wedge shoes. Tore my ankle badly was on crutches. I had four inch white stiletto sandals to wear on my wedding day so was very upset.

I've never worn espadrille or wedges again.

No! How awful. Did you manage your wedding shoes ok?

This is one of the best dresses I’ve seen. She looks so well and I really thought it was a marriage that wouldn’t last.

Wow! Charlene looks stunning - old style Hollywood glam! That dress is just fabulous, and the hair and makeup are spot on. As you say, @IceLollly- she looks well. That's the best part, she does look recovered from her illness.

Charlene looks spectacular! I would love to know the inside story of that marriage - is it a romantic relationship or are they more like good friends/co-parents these days?

RomainingCalm · 18/07/2026 22:35

Wow! Charlene looks beautiful in that dress and her hair is gorgeous.

A pragmatic marriage perhaps.

Morning all, I am really late to this new thread! Thanks @Maireas , can I request that we have an emoji in the title of all threads going forward please? The heart made it stand out so easier to find.

Yesterday was Lady Helen's wedding anniversary and I enjoyed the photos and reels that kept popping up on insta. I loved her dress and the unusual bouquet.

My daughter graduated last week (I wore a dress for the first time in about twenty years!) and part of the fun was watching and looking at all the dresses, on the mums as well as the graduates. Coincidentally, in keeping with rubies being a July stone, I gave her the ruby and diamond ring that DH bought me when she was born.

I love Charlene's dress and also wonder what kind of marriage they have given all the wedding day tears looked nothing like tears of joy all those years ago.

Right, happy Sunday everyone. Term doesn't end until Thursday here so after next week I'll have more time to keep up!

Maireas · 19/07/2026 09:04

Good morning, @frugalkitty, lovely to see you again. The point about the emoji is noted 😊. I'm glad you had a lovely day, and what a beautiful gift for your daughter.
I think it's good to see that Charlene is obviously better and looking well, and although we don't know what goes on in any marriage, they're obviously companionable.

I see that the Japanese imperial house has relaxed some of its rules and women will no longer lose their royal status after marriage. But they still can't inherit the throne! So near and yet so far...

Charlene looks like she is channeling Marylin, in a good way!

I've just seen that the exhibition of the late Queen's clothes has proved so popular that it's been extended to April. Or maybe that happened a while ago, I don't know. But it's definitely worth seeing!

That’s brilliant, hopefully a trip to London is on the cards. 🤞

deeahgwitch · 19/07/2026 10:37

Oh God those espadrilles on Leti 😮
A rare fail for her.

deeahgwitch · 19/07/2026 10:46

Charlene channeling Marilyn - I thought that too @smilesy
Charlene in that dress and Kate in that amazing gold dress she wore to the No Time To Die premiere. Both iconic.
Apologies it looks like I am hogging the thread but am just catching up.
Giving your daughter the ruby ring is a beautiful gesture @frugalkitty
I loved your comment about Sofia’s outfit being in Stephanie of Luxembourg’s wheelhouse @KillingMeDeftly😀

Perhaps one step at a time!

Even Spain hasn't changed their law so if Leti and Felipe were ever to split up and he were to remarry and have a son then all Leonor's hard work would go out the window and she'd be supplanted by an infant. Obviously that's highly unlikely but it doesn't feel right that it's even theoretically possible!
