Which dress for the evening do of a wedding?

weddingdilemmadress · 04/07/2026 18:33

I posted in AIBU, panicked, and now I have two choices

Dress one:

https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/butter-yellow-shirred-halter-neck-tizzy-midi-dress-d255470ylw

Dress two:

https://www.asos.com/prd/210378452?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Planned accessories are the blue bag and shoes linked.

Which one do I go for?! It’s a distant relative’s evening do at a mid-July wedding. We’re due for a heatwave so I don’t want to be massively covered.

I will wear my hair down in loose curls

Dress 1 as dress 2 looks like you’re going to the beach. It’s also sweaty looking, the high neck isn’t particularly flattering either.

Swiftsmith · 05/07/2026 20:08

100% dress 1, it's lovely and you could dress it up with accessories and your hairstyle, it'll be perfect at a BBQ. Agree dress 2 looks cheap. I also avoid polyester, not as unusual as you think. A quick internet search will give you plenty of reasons to, or see this article

You said it was in a hotel now it's a bbq?

I think it looks awful on her, the dress doesn’t suit her. She is too large of arse and belly for that style of dress to look its best imo. She’d look better in other things, less tank like. Opinions may vary. Wear what you like of course but you asked for opinions.

Edited

What.the.fuck. The OP was asking whether the dress was nice not for commentary on the models body. Why on earth would you think that was appropriate? Large of arse? The woman is a plus size model so she hardly going to have a waif like arse is she. And yes she may very well look better in other things. Shes a model, she wears what shes asked to by ASOS. Theyre not her clothes, you do realise that dont you? Honestly cant believe the idiocy. The model is beautiful and your comments just completely uncalled for. Nasty.

Oh give over, arms and bit of back are not too much flesh. You want to dress her like a Mennonite because you're sizeist?

ladygindiva · 05/07/2026 22:53

Dress 2

VictoriaEra · 06/07/2026 08:52

Dress 1 is nicer. Dress 2 is too busy

Yeah it’s a hotel hosting the whole thing, and the meal is a BBQ

Dress 2 is definitely getting returned. At first I thought it was really nice, but now I just think it’s ugly!

Good. Enjoy your lovely yellow dress.

Monty36 · 06/07/2026 12:31

Personally I prefer dress one. Really not dress 2.
But am not sure dress one is quite right for the wedding either.

Christ, so many posters on Mumsnet with an absolute fuckton of issues. I will never understand why any woman would feel the need to speak so disgracefully about another woman's body.
Serious fucking issues.

Dress 1 is nice and it sounds like the event is informal enough for it to work. Ditto brown dress. But I’m not sure about either of them with those accessories.

How much flesh should larger women show? Ankles and wrists ok? Today I'm wearing a vest top because it's hot. Sit down, take a deep breath. I'm larger than op. No one on the school run screamed or vomited or passed out. And, wait for it. My shorts stop at my knees. Imagine. Shoulders, arms and calves. Call in the whale shooters.

How dare she show her naked arms!!

Get over yourself 😂😂

KTMeetsTheRsUptown · 06/07/2026 14:26

I think Dress 1 would be perfect.
There was a similar post recently and that poster was going wedding and had Dress 1🤔

SleepingStandingUp · 06/07/2026 14:51

Dress 2 doesn't look like it fits well given her pose so I wouldn't buy it on that basis, it's the dress not the gorgeous model. Also too hot for this summer

The OP has 2 posts running at the same time, so its likely just her other post.

🤣🤣🤣 what a load of nonsense!

NavyCrab · 06/07/2026 16:52

Everyone on AIBU told you dress 1 was too casual. Dress 2 is a better choice.

OneLimePombear · 06/07/2026 20:22

I really like dress one and think it’s perfect for an evening BBQ wedding reception.

winnieanddaisy · 06/07/2026 20:23

Dress 1. Dress 2 is chiffon and would be very sticky in the heat . It looks nice but you would be better wearing natural fibres .
