Which dress for the evening do of a wedding?

weddingdilemmadress · Yesterday 18:33

I posted in AIBU, panicked, and now I have two choices

Dress one:

https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/butter-yellow-shirred-halter-neck-tizzy-midi-dress-d255470ylw

Dress two:

https://www.asos.com/prd/210378452?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Planned accessories are the blue bag and shoes linked.

Which one do I go for?! It’s a distant relative’s evening do at a mid-July wedding. We’re due for a heatwave so I don’t want to be massively covered.

I will wear my hair down in loose curls

I really don’t like dress 2. Too big and baggy. Dress 1 is flattering and would be perfect for an evening wedding bbq do.

Dress 1 is nice, but I would wear it to a supermarket.
Dress 2 is not so nice, but more formal, so more wedding suitable but it is polyester lined with polyester. You will boil and the fabric will smell.
If you feel the wedding is going to be really casual, choose dress 1.

This post nails it.

I agree with @Arrivederla. Even more MNet, if the wedding's v casual and the evening do is a barbecue, why do you have to change at all?

Have all the people.saying dress one is too casual, looked at the back? Would you really wear that to the supermarket?

I'd say dress 1 is nicest, and I'd probably wear it for the whole day. Add pretty shoes, a hat/headband, pretty scarf/wrap to cover shoulders/bare back in church and job done.

Dress 1 is nice. Dress 2 is not.

I’m only going to the evening! I’m not invited to the ceremony (thank god)

Dress 1 is much nicer. Dress 2 looks cheap.

Edit. Bra could be a problem for the first one.

RosalieRosa · Today 08:38

I prefer dress 2. I just like it better. I think either one is fine for a casual evening do

VividDeer · Today 08:40

I prefer dress 1 if the wedding us casual enough

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Today 08:43

In a heatwave I could not relish a high neck in polyester. In fact no high neck at all.

ParsonMaybold · Today 08:46

The second one is a polyester nightmare.

I’d go for number 1. It’s not too casual as it’s just the evening bit.

Ohpleeeease · Today 08:47

I posted on your other thread, OP. It’s occurred to me that the yellow dress has a lot of shirring across the bodice. That could feel quite sweaty if it’s going to be hot. I would opt for the less close fitting dress for comfort alone, but style wise I think both of your choices are lovely.

Tradescanti · Today 08:49

The yellow dress is fine, especially with the back which makes it look more dressy.
You're only there for a few hours in the evening so it won't be too hot.

JackieFancy · Today 08:50

I’d go with 1 it’s lovely and summery, perfect for a more casual event. I’d maybe go with different colour accessories though.
I love the colours of the second one but not keen on the halter neck style. If you have large boobs like the model it just looks like a block of fabric.

I too read your other post. On that post, you said you were attending the reception, so lots of people said dress one was too casual. Now you say you are only attending the evening part and its a casual BBQ. Whilst I still think dress 1 is something I'd throw over swimwear on holiday, the other thread had some nice accessory ideas and might fit the brief.

Dress 2 is more formal but shapeless and polyester. I'd personally never wear polyester in summer, let alone during a heatwave!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Today 08:55

@JackieFancy The yellow one is a halter neck too! Both high neck. I think the yellow one is just a plain dress for everyday wear and not remotely wedding style. Difficult to jazz it up. I’d probably say neither work for an evening do in hot weather.

I’ve ordered a backless sticky bra because I need one anyway for that dress, so it should be alright

The second one is very poorly made, the fabric is cut all wrong, it hangs badly.
I wouldn't chose either of them tbh.

weddingdilemmadress · Today 09:13

One reflection I think dress 2 is going to go back, I have found this and love it!

I tend to stick to the same few brands because I know what fits me from them. I think this could work with the blue accessories?!

Dress 1 (the yellow one) is lovely, and the bow at the back makes it more glamorous than it looks from the front. Definitely suitable for the occasion. I think Dress 2 looks a bit cheap in comparison.

Yes dress 2 is definitely going back the more I think about it

Im glad you're sending dress 2 back because it is hideous. I really like the brown nobodys child dress you've chosen.

The more I look the more I think I had a moment 🤣 I think the brown will work with the blue, and then also work for summer!
