Which dress for the evening do of a wedding?

weddingdilemmadress · Yesterday 18:33

I posted in AIBU, panicked, and now I have two choices

Dress one:

https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/butter-yellow-shirred-halter-neck-tizzy-midi-dress-d255470ylw

Dress two:

https://www.asos.com/prd/210378452?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Planned accessories are the blue bag and shoes linked.

Which one do I go for?! It’s a distant relative’s evening do at a mid-July wedding. We’re due for a heatwave so I don’t want to be massively covered.

I will wear my hair down in loose curls

That’s much better. I like dress 1 but dress 2 is unflattering on the model which is a bad sign and it looks cheap.

Dress 1 is so pretty

Nobody’s child dresses are gorgeous but I have to wait for the sale because I can’t justify £100 on one dress!

I really don’t like dress 2, it looks badly cut and messy somehow

for what is a casual format I think 1 is lovely

LlynTegid · Today 09:37

Dress 1 solely as I do not like dress 2 at all.

Halter neck all the way then! The Brown one is better! Lower at the front and would be great with gold jewellery.

Organic cotton versus plastic polyester. I saw your other thread where I think you were worried about being too hot? The cotton will be less sweaty. The Asos dress is lovely though. I normally just dismiss stuff that isn't natural fibres unless it's a raincoat or something.

Dress 1 is too casual
dress 2 is polyester which I would not wear in heat

what other summer dresses do you have already?

Dress 2. The yellow is a bit dull.

sallyluyah · Today 10:38

Dress 1. Don't like the pattern on dress 2 at all. Added plus is dress 1 is cotton which will be lovely in real life and lovely to wear.

Either are fine, I would attempt to find out if evening do is more casual or stay in wedding clothes, I went to a wedding where people changed into jeans for the evening do and the bride had a short white jersey dress

It might just be me but I’ve never really considered the material my clothes are made out of?!

Really? It makes a huge different to how it will feel, how it will hang and how well it will wash.

ExquisitelyDressing · Today 12:21

I like the brown one best. I’m the other way round to most of MN it seems and fine with man-made fibres, they often drape better than cotton, are lighter and don’t get damp. I’ve never had a problem with being sticky and smelly in polyester (and I do sweat, but it dries so fast unlike cotton).

Really! I buy what I think will look nice and do it based on how it fits

The more I look the more I think I had a moment 🤣 I think the brown will work with the blue, and then also work for summer!

🤣 yes i think the blue accessories will really elevate the brown dress and its a really versatile dress that you'll get loads of wear out of in the summer. Enjoy your wedding.

mondaytosunday · Today 12:34

Dress 2, though what is that model doing??

Calliopespa · Today 12:55

I think the lemon is a strange colour for evening, and a bit "primroses and bluebells" with the blue accessories, but maybe I would not have reacted that way if I had known it was a barbecue.

The brown is probably safer but are you a 4 or 14?!

Synthetics can make you sweaty.

Mycatmax · Today 12:56

Keep looking, sorry.

Dress 1 by a mile

LightFragments · Today 13:01

Dress 2 is awful. The whole fit of it is just wrong although maybe that is the model as she looks very overweight and it just doesn’t suit her figure at all.

Dress 1 and the brown dress are ok, but I’d keep looking if I was you.

redboxerclub · Today 13:04

Dress 1. It’s an evening do and it’s a heatwave and it’s casual

It doesn’t bother me either! In fact I find cotton and linen really hot to wear. I prefer man made
fabrics as to me they’re lighter more floaty and cooler.
