Which dress for the evening do of a wedding?

weddingdilemmadress · Yesterday 18:33

I posted in AIBU, panicked, and now I have two choices

Dress one:

https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/butter-yellow-shirred-halter-neck-tizzy-midi-dress-d255470ylw

Dress two:

https://www.asos.com/prd/210378452?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Planned accessories are the blue bag and shoes linked.

Which one do I go for?! It’s a distant relative’s evening do at a mid-July wedding. We’re due for a heatwave so I don’t want to be massively covered.

I will wear my hair down in loose curls

Dress 2

Personally out of those two the asos dress , the yellow looks too casual for a wedding evening do .. and the dress will go really well with your shoes and bag

Dress 2

Dress 1

Dress 2 I agree dress 1 looks too casual

I really don’t like dress 2 and I’m not sure dress 1 will go with the bag and shoes.

Dress 1. Dress 2 isn’t as nice and will be sweaty I think.

Dress 2 with those accessories, and it’s more wedding-y

weddingdilemmadress · Yesterday 18:45

It’s quite a casual wedding - the meal is a BBQ! I think both dresses will also work for the rest of summer, but I do think dress 2 is gorgeous

Dress 2 is more wedding like. Dress 1 is too casual IMHO.

I think the yellow one looks too everyday.

I like the colours of the second one but not sure the shape is very flattering, it seems very blocky up top.

weddingdilemmadress · Yesterday 20:00

I’m still a bit torn, purely because it will be a very casual wedding. But I think I’m swinging more to dress 2

I think if the forecast is for really really hot I’d go for dress 1 since it’s cotton! Maybe with different accessories though.

Dress 2 is nice but it’s polyester so I’d worry about being sticky.

Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 20:04

Dress2. Polyester can be light and not at all sticky and sweaty.

Newsenmum · Yesterday 20:07

Definitely dress 2

Changingforthisone66 · Yesterday 20:09

Dress 2 looks like it'll be very sweaty with man made fabric. It looks cheap.

weddingdilemmadress · Yesterday 20:24

It might just be me but I’ve never really considered the material my clothes are made out of?!

Natural fabrics like cotton, linen etc are generally considered better in hot weather as they breathe more than polyester.

I think you are probably unusual in not taking that into account tbh, although if you are happy with man-made fabrics then that's obviously fine!

Ruthietuthie · Yesterday 20:46

Dress 1 is nice, but I would wear it to a supermarket.
Dress 2 is not so nice, but more formal, so more wedding suitable but it is polyester lined with polyester. You will boil and the fabric will smell.
If you feel the wedding is going to be really casual, choose dress 1.

PhaedraTwo · Yesterday 20:55

Dress 1. It's not too casual for an evening do in July.

Dress 2 doesn't look right. In theory it's a shape and pattern I would go for over 1 but there's something just not right about it. I think it's the fitted back. It looks like a cheap, toned down version of the type of dress brands like Klements or Alémais make in silk or linen.

Lampzade · Yesterday 20:58

Dress 1 is too casual , but I suppose you can use accessories to dress it up
Dress 2 is just ugly tbh. Very unflattering cut and it is made from polyester

There are so many simple looking dresses that you could wear which are inexpensive and would look much better than either of these dresses

pambeesleyhalpert · Yesterday 21:03

I prefer the first and I think you’d get more wear out of it!

I think this might be the most mumsnet saying ever! I think everyone is fine with it, really

No, loads of people are not fine with it. Many people dislike polyester - apologies if that's too "mumsnet" for you.
