What did you wear to your registry office wedding?

I’m at a loss as to what to wear! I want it to be special and memorable, but at the same time I don’t want anything remotely bridal. I’ve got a gorgeous white blazer that I could wear, that’s as wedding-y as I could go - but then what would I wear this with?

It’s a very casual affair. PILs will be witnesses. There will be photos but not professional.

Would a bouquet (a simple one) be overkill? I quite like the idea of a fascinator, too, but same concern!

Special jewellery for the occasion or not?

Help an accidental/reluctant bride out 😩

(First marriage, mid-30s, if relevant.)

Thanks!

Also a cute & Other Stories set - but cream & maybe a bit oversized for you.

As you like the idea of pink, & shorts, you could have these trousers cropped? (I'm not paying that much attention to your £500 plus budget! Just the vibe!)

Have you read any of the thread?

The OP thinks she'd like something non-bridal, mini/babydoll/fun. And posted a picture of Lily Allen in a satin bustier-style mini dress with a big sash & bow at the back.

As to what's "appropriate" for a wedding, I think the posts & photos above prove that anything is appropriate!

Just my opinion. Bet OP could be swayed to something more flattering though!

You did say you liked the idea of shorts, OP!!

Bit too hot pants like for me for wedding. Nice though.

More pink shorts -

My fashionista SIL’s sister in law (her brother’s wife) bought a pale pink strapless designer silk or satin long dress. It sort of looked bridal but sort of fashionista too.

Perhaps - but she does want a mini! And she's petite so it won't be as "leggy" looking as in these pictures. Her choice!!

Would you consider vintage, OP? Gold, bow, late 50s/early 60s brocade ... I think it's lovely!

Some ideas:-

Back in 00s, wedding guest idea for me - Richard’s (British brand) cupro silk knee length pencil skirt pale pink matching jacket. Wore with Morgan de toi lacy short sleeved top. Similar 00s, Lilac mini skirt, pale lilac/mauve silk almost shot silk jacket. Wore with sleeveless white ribbed M&S top. Wore the latter to ladies day at ascot. Can’t recall shoes for either. This was 00s but you should be able to find on eBay/vinted.

Or go designer or one level below eg Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Miu Miu (Prada) or See by Chloe. If you like those styles (I did when I was 30 and mid 30s). They’re the younger sister ranges of designer clothes but I’ve bought really nice bits from there in the past for smart/occasion events as well from the actual designer proper. May be worth a visit in person. There used to be a Ferretti shop in Knightsbridge. There’s a Vivienne Westwood one nearby. Maybe Joseph? Try eBay and vinted and vestiare collective for all these too. You could check eBay vinted for Uterque. High end brand range of Zara, now discontinued. Baby Ceylon (discontinued) was where I had my bridesmaid dress from for SIL’s wedding, in bright fuschia pink (not hot pink) or a sort of blue lilac colour. Very midsummer nights dream boho. A family friend owns Ducie, she used to do silk or similar fabric long strappy and shorter dresses that were very trendy a few years ago. Again try eBay etc. Wolf and Badger? Anthropologie and their diffusion ranges? Dover street market?

I personally think anything pre loved is the way to go but that’s jmo.

Ah I remember Baby Ceylon!! Wasn't it a stall & then a shop at Portobello Market? Very boho early Sienna Miller!

Gettingbysomehow · 23/06/2026 15:32

I made my own dress. It was May day so I wore a green velvet dress covered in craft leaves which I had sewn on by hand and long silky sleeves with green velvet bias binding at the hem.
It looked lovely.
The groom wore black velvet trousers with a long front opening robe that I made too with a silk lining all in red.

My son who is an artist painted a green man on the cake in food colouring. The cake was epic.

EleanorMc67 · 23/06/2026 15:33

Another vintage one that I think is beautiful. Pink & gold brocade. I personally love the midi length, though you could alter to shorten ... maybe you might rethink if it's this dress though, as it would be a shame!!!

A paler pink vintage - though not quite as lovely as the one above IMO.

Yes you’re right! These Baby Ceylon dresses were maybe a bit posher boho but still boho. Ideal for a wedding at Kilver Court (Mulberry factory/outlet is there) in Somerset. My designer loving auntie was most displeased to find the Mulberry bags weren’t reduced much but still bought herself a designer piece of clothing from there. Ducie was the same and similar dresses/clientele (started in portobello road) but more 00s.

I love these colours of the dresses you posted.

Olivia in An Invitation to the Waltz book (Rosamond Lehman) has a cotton dress made of a raspberry ice colour which she tries on in the heat. I’ve always wanted to find something similar. And a flame colour occasion dress for a debutante ball. Very like the dress in Flaming June painting I imagine.

daisydreamies · 23/06/2026 16:18

I wore a knee-length black dress that had a lacey neckline. I loved the style of the dress and found it in TKMaxx. I wore a flower crown and had a small bouquet of flowers. It was just me, my husband and our parents. Super low-key and I wouldn't change a thing about it.

I love them too - but don't suit wearing them, sadly! (That's if I was still a size 10 & could fit into them, which I'm not!).

I have a bluish-pink linen sofa though, & lots of other pink bits of furnishings. So that sates my raspberry & fuchsia pink desire!

Thank you!

I actually LOVE the idea of shorts. I’m petite so short/mini dresses or shorts suit me really well. It’s going to be at the height of summer so I do need to keep that in mind and wear something comfortable (no doubt we will want photos outside too).

Any bouquet/fascinator/hat for you?

I would go 1960s registry office then, a cute mini dress and massive bunch of dog daisies.

MabelAnderson · 23/06/2026 17:33

This sort of thing. Some very cute 60s mini dresses on Etsy.

That's actually very like my cousin's wedding dress! She found it in a vintage shop here in Edinburgh. Her (humanist! The shock of it in a Catholic family!!) wedding was in my uncle's orchard in Ireland - all very relaxed & lovely.

(Some kind of daisy or white flower, fine - but dog daisies have a really dreadful smell.)
