I should start by saying that I am one of those people.

I was in my local (affluent for context if that makes a difference) and as always I was looking out for people who looked good so I could steal some ideas. There were none!! Everyone looked a right state - I also appreciate that many people don’t care, but some do and, like me, need help. So I started thinking about some rules - add or disagree, but I think most people need help! Especially need more ‘do.., ‘ tips.

  1. No crop trousers!
  2. Nearly everyone needs a better bra.
  3. Check your back view in the mirror- many people had visible pants.
  4. If you’ve got bigger boobs and a bit of a tum cropped trousers and a t-shirt that isn’t tucked in is very unflattering.
  5. longer summer dresses that I keep reading on here are dated look nicer than many other options.

edited for typos

I don't understand why people are wearing thick poly-mix, close fitting items.
If you wear the thinnest 100% cotton or 100% linen, loose like a shirt or a dress, you'll be much cooler and not covered in sweat patches.

How is it even remotely funny that most of the women on this thread do not have a fucking clue how to keep cool and are showing photos of frankly really nasty grim clothes

Ha ha! I feel your pain. It always strikes me as fundamentally odd that on boards like this we ask for advice from people we can’t see, and they happily come along and tell us what they say works really well.. and if we saw them in real life….. would we be thinking they were style gurus, or , just possibly, think they were people in need of style advice, themselves…

Ok mum 😂

Why do you use the word ‘ mum’ and laughter here? I genuinely don’t get why that’s your response.

Thanks Confused
the maxi dress I’m wearing is viscose, it’s perfectly cool enough

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/06/2026 10:18

Regardless of what you wear over them, I have found a top tip is those close fitting AIRism cami tops from Uniqlo. Wear them under your top and they keep you cool and wick away any sweat. Seems counter intuitive to wear more than one layer in the heat but it really works.

It also helps tops and dresses sit better.

JudgeJ · 24/06/2026 10:51

really nasty grim clothes
Merely your opinion though. My maxi viscose frock is 30 years old, bought at a Midway in India, wonderful worn commando in the garden.

My outfit today

im in work mode working from home, but admittedly I think shorts are better, it’s so hot!

GreenCandleWax · 24/06/2026 14:55

I think key to looking cool and well dressed in the heat is feeling cool. For me that means no waist bands that just get hot, itchy, sweaty and tight. So dresses that don't have a waistband, ie. they are cut in one piece from top down, are your friends. I have dug out a couple of these in lightweight cool fabrics, the only things i can bear to wear - bonus no bra required luckily!

Cantonet · 24/06/2026 16:22

I'm wearing a white cotton crinkle maxi with a cotton slip. White cotton/silk vest top with no lycra in it & a cotton bralette with flipflops. I'm still very 🥵

canuckup · 24/06/2026 17:06

I mean, what are people supposed to wear? Bra-less, without cargo pants??

NCTDN · 25/06/2026 08:53

I would so love to go bra less! As soon as I get in, it’s off! I think that makes me sweatier than anything.

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/06/2026 09:09

M&S do these invisible bras that look like they might work in hot weather.

They used to do it and it was people wearing the most ordinary clothes.

got their claws in

JaceLancs · 25/06/2026 23:13
