Do you change into old clothes at home or stay dressed?

Probably an odd question
But just out of curiosity
How many of you get changed when you get home ,and just wear ,old or to big , clothes round the house?
Assuming you have bought yourself some nice summer clothes,do you wear them all day ,even to clean and cook in ?
Or do you get changed to scruffs when you get in ..
I get changed in to clothes that are 3 sizes to big ,and then wonder why I don't want to go back out again..but we have dogs ...And dog hair sticks to black badly .
Contemplating throwing out all my old to big clothes and just wearing the ones that fit all day ,with no change

Old clothes team👋🏼 nothing hits better than XL teddy PJ's from Primark I got 15 years ago (I'm size 6-8). The minute I put them on I'm home and can relax (yes, even in the summer, I'm ALWAYS cold and what you call heatwave I call spring).
I also have pets: multicoloured cats and an off white/cream Pomeranian so there is no clothing in existence that can hide it.
My outside clothes are going straight in the wardrobe in a spare room where my pets don't go, I still have to 'defluff' myself extensively before I leave the house.
If you knock on my door uninvited you can't complain if you don't like my outfit.

Gosh I couldn't do that
PJ's go on right before bed ,and I get changed before I do anything in a morning
I definitely couldn't clean in pj ..

See, that's where you got to be a pro. I have PJ's house wear and PJ's PJ's 😉
I change to PJ's house wear and then change when I go to bed.

In the week I dress comfortably for school run / WFH / errands / chores. My go to is a pair of Halara leggings I’ve had for years. May ‘dress up’ a bit more some days or at weekend with a dress or nice jeans, depending on mood. At some point most days (always when hot), I strip down to underwear for cleaning / cooking as I get hot doing these & I’m in a bikini or swim
costume most days at some point for hot tub. I also do indoor workouts in underwear. If I run outdoors I’m in running leggings / tshirt.
Sometimes wearing clothes annoys me 🤣 I could probably be a happy naturist!
I’m usually in either warm or cool pjs / nightshirt by 5pm. If I need to go out again (usually just for a walk round block with dd) I will chuck a coat over pjs if needed and go in those - on eves too warm for a coat I change back into cool clothes to go out.

I have a shelf of comfy gear just to wear around the house. Get changed as soon as home usually. Love being in my comfys.

quirkychick · 30/05/2026 17:29

I think the difference is some people appear to have indoor/outdoor clothes and some people have night/day clothes. I'm definitely the latter: pyjamas/night clothes, shower and get up and change into day clothes. I would only change during the day into workout clothes or for an event.

You definitely want the majority of clothes to fit your lifestyle. I've never worked in a corporate environment, but have a mixture of smartish and casual clothes which work for weekends, working from home and day to day. I also have an apron for cooking (mine's navy cotton from a cookshop and I've had it years).

No, because when I lost weight I realised most of the clothes I gave away were like new, I never got the wear out of them, the clothes I got the wear out of were the shite ones. So now I wear something lovely every single day,

however as I work from home I make sure it’s comfy and soft. But well fitting, well laundered, good quality and makes me feel good. Can be anything from wide leg trousers and a silk blouse of a maxi dress. I never ever wear anything that I don’t think looks lovely on.

Same here.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 30/05/2026 19:34

I've always changed, to keep clothing free of potential food splatters and attack from viscous cleaning materials lol. However, a few year's back decided to make an effort with my 'indoors' clothing and it is casual, less precious, so more jeans, t-shirts, jumpers, shorts, so an alternative casual wardrobe, one I keep in a blanket box in the bedroom, but nothing to shock a visitor.

PurpleCoo · 30/05/2026 19:48

Good heavens no. Why would I want to wear clothes that are 3 sizes too big? I have clothes that are 3 sizes to big and they have been stored away until I decide what to do with them (except some dresses that still look good with a belt and weren't very old when I started losing weight).

I don't tend to change clothes anyway, unless they are caked in mud or wet. My work clothes are flowery dress type things, I just walk the dog in them, as they are going on the wash that night anyway. I o my wear clothes one day, except perhaps for zipped hoodies or fleeces that go over a t shirt or similar

MiddleAgedDread · 30/05/2026 20:17

Changed as soon as I get in, either into joggers or PJs (house PJs, not the ones I sleep in). Bra off at the first possible opportunity too!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 30/05/2026 20:38

I change after I come home from work, as I get grubby, so I jump straight into the shower. Then it is pyjamas or jeans and a top.

If I'm having a day at home, and don't expect visitors, I will sometimes wear a very elderly but comfortable pair of yoga trousers.

If I am wearing my best clothes, then I don't mind keeping the skirt and blouse on, but I will whip off the tights as soon as I come home!

LilyCanna · 30/05/2026 20:47

I don’t need to wear smart clothes for work and I mostly work from home anyway, so am usually pretty casual. I only buy and wear clothes that I feel nice in. Not that I spend lots of money as I get pretty much everything off Vinted for a fiver max plus fees & postage.
When it’s hot like this I’ll have a shower early evening and put something clean on, but it will be something I like, like a cotton strappy jumpsuit or comfy summer trousers and a top that goes with them. Or a summer dress.
Nice looking clothes can be as comfortable as old tatty clothes / too big clothes / pyjamas.

LilyCanna · 30/05/2026 21:00

Actually just to add that I don’t wear pyjamas so I put a t-shirt or vest & jumper plus leggings on when I get out of bed in the morning for breakfast and pottering round before I have my shower. But otherwise daytime clothes = evening clothes.

03cg73 · 30/05/2026 22:23

We are a straight into pj’s/comfies as soon as we get home house

i hate wearing long bottoms. Tights are my ideas of hell. So I am straight into shorts as soon as I get in. Even in winter.

my youngest when she was little used to start stripping as soon as she got out of the car after school. Jacket and jumper were always off by the time we got to the front door. She would leave a trail of her uniform behind her and was almost always naked by the time she got to the top of the stairs 😂 she’d change into pjs then collect the trail of clothes on the stairs on her way back down

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/05/2026 22:27

I don’t get changed when I get home from being out for the day, unless exercising. At the weekend, if I am not going out, I’ll wear lounging about clothes.

TheCraftySquid · 30/05/2026 23:39

Change when I get home onto lounge wear or co-ords , which I’ve bought for casual wear but they aren’t scruffy or too big. They’re totally acceptable if I pop out for coffee or the shops.

Morepositivemum · 30/05/2026 23:41

If I’m home from work after 8/9 I’ll get changed into pjs, before that tracksuit bottoms

soundsys · 30/05/2026 23:58

I get into my comfies when I get home, yes. Very normal to me until I moved in with DH and realised he didn’t. And he was surprised when my family and friends came to stay and all did it, so he was sitting in his work clothes while everyone else was in trackies or pyjamas 🤣 (note: not the same jammies tou wear in bed, nice clean sitting about the house ones, obviously!)

k1233 · 31/05/2026 01:23

I don't like pressure around my waist, so I live in dresses. I found I was staying in my pjs all day, which meant it was an effort to go out. So I got dresses that are comfy for home and presentable to go out to the shops etc. Came in handy recently when I was in hospital for a week. Really easy to wear in bed and for nurses to check and change dressings. The nurses really liked them. These are some that I have. The cut of the long ones is great. They've got a panel down the sides to make a softer line.

This is me. My husband once said to me - how come you look lovely when you go to work but all I see at home is you in your ancient PJs or enormous tracksuit?

Donttellhim · 31/05/2026 09:25

Basically it’s outside clothes or pyjamas and I don’t wear outside clothes inside….for more than half an hour anyway! Generally the first thing I do when I get home, some form of pj, or loungewear!

Blueflutterby · 31/05/2026 12:00

To update ..
I have bought gymking shorts , t shirts and hoodies
To wear at home , swimming and dog walking .
To go out in the summer I've bought denim hot pants and band tees
On a mission today to bin everything else ..
I've wanted gymking stuff for ages ..but never allowed myself it ..don't know why .
.
Happy days

I change into comfy clothes and take my bra off ! I keep decent clothes for going out and alway put makeup on even to go to the shops .

NewYorkSummer · 31/05/2026 12:57

I’m fascinated by those who have ‘outside’ clothes. If I got changed every time I came
home then got changed again when I go back out I’d spend half the day just getting dressed and undressed!

Disturbia81 · 31/05/2026 13:00

Always get into my pjs or comfies, I don’t want to relax in clothes I’ve worn all day that are more fitted

CrushingOnRubies · 31/05/2026 14:11

depends on what I’m wearing if it’s new or nicer than I do get changed. Tend to get changed after work. If I’ve not been out much that day maybe just to the supermarket or taken the dog for a walk will stay in what I’m wearing.
