Do you change into old clothes at home or stay dressed?

Blueflutterby · Today 00:09

Probably an odd question
But just out of curiosity
How many of you get changed when you get home ,and just wear ,old or to big , clothes round the house?
Assuming you have bought yourself some nice summer clothes,do you wear them all day ,even to clean and cook in ?
Or do you get changed to scruffs when you get in ..
I get changed in to clothes that are 3 sizes to big ,and then wonder why I don't want to go back out again..but we have dogs ...And dog hair sticks to black badly .
Contemplating throwing out all my old to big clothes and just wearing the ones that fit all day ,with no change

I change when I get home from work clothes to joggers/shorts, T-shirt etc so more comfortable for doing any jobs or cooking.
To me it’s the same principle of changing out of your school uniform, you never kept that on all evening.

MermaidMummy06 · Today 07:06

I always get changed into my home daggy clothes. I hang my nice clothes & can often rewear several times before washing, which causes the clothes to age as much as wearing them! I also don't want cleaning products or food stains on my clothes. My home clothes are also always baggy & comfy.

Stoicandhappy · Today 07:06

I wear PJs indoors.

Twattergy · Today 07:07

A bit of a mix. I have a drawer of house/dog walking old comfy clothes that yeah probably i wear 70% of the time at home. Its good to take off 'nice' clothes most of the time as if it hasn't been close to my skin I can normally just rehang and minimise unnecessary washing. Also if I wear nice stuff for too long at home it gets dog hair on it...

On days when I’m on the office, I will generally change out of my work trousers when I get home so that I can keep them clean/smart. But I’ll generally just stick a pair of jeans on. On WFH days or the weekend, I just get dressed and wear that all day. I don’t feel good about myself if I’m wearing scruffy or badly-fitting clothes and I like to feel good, even if I’m just spending the day pottering around at home.

EvangelinaMae · Today 07:11

I have house clothes that I wear if I'm not going out or as soon as I come in. I have dogs that are all over me so I don't want to ruin good clothes.

I do wear different tops for work that look more like work clothes but I don't wear them in the evening or weekends when I sit on the sofa with the dogs. I do change my top after work too.

SixAndJuliet · Today 07:11

Work clothes get taken off straight away, into leggings and a hoody in cold weather or shorts/t-shirt/loose dress in hot weather.

If it’s the weekend and I’m wearing jeans and a top/tshirt, I keep that on all day.

PrimeSeason · Today 07:17

If I come home in ‘nice’ clothes I stay in them - apron over for cooking - until I have my evening bath (I shower in the morning but have a bath every evening). Then I’m straight into PJs.

Blueornot · Today 07:19

I just wear the same clothes all day.

RedRiverShore6 · Today 07:20

I'm retired and buy things to wear in the house so they are not old or big and suitable for popping down the shop. I tend to wear a comfy tunic with pockets and either M&S straight joggers or cotton trousers

EffortlesslyDedicated · Today 07:28

I don't change when I get home other than for exercise or going to the allotment. We are casual at work so I am normally in relaxed, comfortable clothes anyway. I seem to be capable of cooking, light gardening, cleaning without making a mess of them, I can't remember the last time I had to deal with a stain. I do tend to do cleaning in my nightie before dressing though. DH and the DCs are the same, wear casual all day and only change for exercise etc.

Asofawithaview · Today 07:46

I change as soon as I’m home - I’m far too messy and forever dropping food down myself, usually beetroot or curry! I don’t have a table in my defence 😄 but even slobbing on the sofa creases them. I also don’t have enough clothes as it is and can’t afford to buy anything at the moment, so try and look after the good ones that I do have.

Cyclingmummy1 · Today 07:48

I'll change my trousers/skirt and cardigan/ jumper for house versions. I tend not to change my shirt/top. Everything is quite decent, (Baukjen, White Stuff, etc) just different.

bumptybum · Today 07:48

i wear different clothes At home because the ones they were at home tend to be things I can move and kneel down and curl up without stretching out knees or bums. The clothes I wear out, tend to be a little bit sharper And smarter.
Also, if I’m only out for a few hours, the clothes might not need washing, particularly in the cooler months.

If i went, for example, I’m wearing cashmere with an undershirt, I won’t need to wash that cashmere each time. If I cook in it, I will need to wash it

In summer, if I’m wearing cotton trousers like chinos or something similar to that, I won’t need to wash them every time

But the key is to get rid of those shitty old baggy too big at home clothes and buy clothes for home that you feel decent but there are still stretchy and comfy. Sort of ‘leisure clothes’.

You don’t have to spend a lot you can go to H&M or something similar and get some really nice stuff that isn’t expensive hold up well can be washed over and over again but it looks decent enough that you would be absolutely fine to pop down to the shop in

It’s amazing how different you feel when you’re at home wearing something where you still look decent

you don’t need a whole wardrobe of it either just three or four outfits for each season. Nice t-shirts, Sweatshirts, Joggers, but not Sports joggers smart joggers, Shorts that are made in something like jogger material or Sports brand shorts made of technical materials don’t need to be ironed, Stretchy singletdress in summer. That kind of thing

hahabahbag · Today 07:50

I get dressed once, I’m not wearing anything fancy day to day. I only change if I’m wearing something special eg evening dress. I don’t have a supply of tatty clothes anyway

LaurieFairyCake · Today 07:53

If I’m not going back out again I put on clean pyjamas, doesn’t matter whether it’s 3pm or 9pm

I’ve not done that on holiday and got bloody soy sauce on my new white trousers yesterday

hahabahbag · Today 07:53

I don’t get this obsession with pjs too, so uncomfortable, if I was wearing smart clothes out (eg was a a funeral, occupational hazard) I’d put on a loose dress coming home not joggers or pjs, dresses are more comfortable.

DrFaustina · Today 07:56

It depends what season and what I'm doing.

In winter, it's home and straight into pj/lounge clothes, because chances are in going nowhere. I have a rotation of lounge things, depending on how cold it gets.

In summer it feels too early to get into pjs, so it's usually shorts and tops until a more appropriate time, because I'll be buzzing about in the garden etc. The difference between work me and home me is stark.

Stars26 · Today 07:58

I wear comfy clothes at home so trackies and baggy jumpers or t shirts. Some i could leave the house in or some i defo don’t! I dont like wearing jeans ir wearing nicer clothes at home to get more wear out of them!

RedRosie · Today 08:03

I have at-home clothes, and have a habit of coming in, hand/face wash, bra off, home clothes. They aren't too awful though. I can answer the door. If I'm working at home they are respectable enough for an online meeting. It's a family thing though ... I think it started from being quite small, to keep school uniform elements like jumpers clean for the next day. DH can't wait to get into his massive hooded dressing gown when he gets in. I have to wrestle it off him to wash it.

PashaMinaMio · Today 08:08

TiredMagpie · Today 00:24

I have a big drawer of lounging at home clothes, but they’re not all too big or old. Hoodies, leggings, tees…my comfies, basically. I can chuck on trainers and go to the shops in them happily. If I was going ‘out out’, I’d change,

Edited

I always used to change after work into rugby pants & sweater, but not ill fitting! If I had to leave the house on an errand, I looked ok with trainers on. I wasn’t “scruffy.”

In summer I’d swap joggers/rugby pants for “pedal pushers” (old fashioned expression) and trainers and Tshirt. It’d be well worn items if I was gardening but clean, properly fitting and fit to be seen in.

There is no need to be scruffy around the house or after work and perish the thought of housework in pajamas .., and then sleeping in them afterwards! Nah, not on my watch,

PartyQuestion30th · Today 08:12

I come home from work and change into gardening/dog walking clothes as that’s what I’m going to do. Or something comfier than work clothes. I have a lot of nice clothes that never get worn.

Wallywonker72 · Today 08:15

I did used to hang onto and wear old baggy ‘scuffing around’ clothes at home, a habit picked up from my mum. Then I realised how crap I looked - and felt. So I get dressed every day, nothing fancy just jeans / trousers and a top. I don’t actually own a pair of tracky bottoms 🤷‍♀️ my jeans are pretty comfortable.

i also have a shower, wash my hair and dry it every day, even if I’m not going anywhere - it’s short so don’t take long to do. And it helps me feel ready for the day,

WhaleEye · Today 08:20

I have house clothes. They’re the ones I don’t mind getting messy if I do decide to do some gardening etc. usually long sleever or T-shirt / fleece / joggers.
If I’m on a late shift PJs go on as soon as I get home.
I like the idea of an apron though! Does that make me old? 😬😳

lCircleYou · Today 08:21

I’ll often change into comfier clothing when I get home, just nice comfy clothing though. I wouldn’t wear anything that looked old, too big or scruffy as I’d feel rubbish.
