Do you change into old clothes at home or stay dressed?

Blueflutterby · Today 00:09

Probably an odd question
But just out of curiosity
How many of you get changed when you get home ,and just wear ,old or to big , clothes round the house?
Assuming you have bought yourself some nice summer clothes,do you wear them all day ,even to clean and cook in ?
Or do you get changed to scruffs when you get in ..
I get changed in to clothes that are 3 sizes to big ,and then wonder why I don't want to go back out again..but we have dogs ...And dog hair sticks to black badly .
Contemplating throwing out all my old to big clothes and just wearing the ones that fit all day ,with no change

But I like to look nice when I go out ,I like to keep my clothes looking new ,which they won't if I wear them to cook and clean in .
But I often send quite nice clothes to the charity shop as they have got to big
And hardly been worn
Be just interesting to see what other people do

I wear an apron over my usual clothes to cook and clean up after dinner.

Old clothes are kept for when I’m cleaning/ gardening- don’t want to ruin wearable clothes with bleach/ mud etc.

Whoops75 · Today 00:16

I change 3 times a day on averages,

wake in PJs
exercise clothes
going out clothes
sweats set for cooking/lounging
back to PJs

Negroany · Today 00:17

Why do your quite nice clothes keep getting "too big", are you shrinking?

LycheeFizz1972 · Today 00:23

I do this too.

i wear old, ill fitting, tatty clothes at home so I don’t have to worry about pet hair, getting crumpled or dirty etc. As soon as I come through the door I change out of my nice clothes so they are kept in perfect condition.

The problem with this is that popping out then feels like an effort because I have to get changed and I then sometimes say sod it and go out looking ridiculous.

I tried binning all the awful clothes and actually just wearing nicer things but soon ended up with two tiers of clothes again.

I hate that I do this tbh
I spend most of my time at home so I have a wardrobe full of lovely new clothes that are rarely worn.

TiredMagpie · Today 00:24

I have a big drawer of lounging at home clothes, but they’re not all too big or old. Hoodies, leggings, tees…my comfies, basically. I can chuck on trainers and go to the shops in them happily. If I was going ‘out out’, I’d change,

HeddaGarbled · Today 00:27

I change into comfy but not necessarily old: I buy new comfy clothes as well as new work clothes.

blueshoes · Today 00:27

I have home clothes I rarely change out of.

My children are quite surprised when they see me in my nice 'outside' clothes.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · Today 00:32

I change into eg joggers/t-shirt/hoodie after work - comfy clothes. Today I had a bath and am in boxer style gingham checked shorts and a t-shirt. I’m happy to answer the door, or pop to Tesco Express without scaring children. I change into a nightie to sleep.

mathanxiety · Today 00:33

I change into my nice, comfy home clothes.

You don't have to wear clothes that are three sizes too big in order to be comfortable or feel relaxed when cooking.

Perfidia · Today 00:43

I change. Of course. That’s how I was brought up, and I see no reason to alter the habit. I tend to spend money on work or going out clothes (or clothes for specific activities) but had never bought ‘home clothes’ until lockdown. There was always a plentiful supply of old, shabby worn out stuff, my own, or hand-me-downs from parents, partners, even rapidly growing teens. So home wear carried layers of memory and meaning and significance which were always very comforting. And of course it meant expensive suits weren’t being trashed and looked pristine for years.

Never found any issue with ‘popping out to the shops’ I’d just throw a coat over whatever I was wearing at home.

PeonyBulb · Today 00:55

I change out of my work clothes as soon as I get home into my at home clothes. My home clothes are just old comfy clothes or loose dresses to wear .

NuffSaidSam · Today 00:58

I get into my scruffy/comfy clothes (or PJ's depending on time) the second I walk in the door. I can't even imagine wearing my outside clothes to sit around at home!

Donewiththisshit · Today 01:02

I was just thinking about this the other day as I have at least two friends who literally do not own any ‘home’ or lounging clothes. They will get dressed in the morning in their good clothes and wear them until bedtime. Even when just chilling and watching tv.
Me on the other hand, have a plethora of lounging clothes. Like a previous poster I am at home a lot, my lovely clothes don’t get worn and it’s a ball ache popping to the shop as I either have to get changed or go out looking like a tramp.

DrJump · Today 01:07

I have a few types of clothes that I get changed into so my work stuff stays nice and has to get washed much less.
So today I got out of PJs into
Chore/gardening clothes. These can get dirty messy but I'd pop to the shops in them..
Going out clothes. Nice trousers and a top for the afternoon writing class I'm going to.
Lounging clothes. Nice track pants etc.
Back to PJ

This means stuff gets washed less. Like the trousers I aim to get 4 wears out of before washing.

clamshell24 · Today 04:51

Wear ordinary, nice clothes all the time, usually jeans unless work. I find it depressing if my partner is wearing ugly / same old clothes and none of us wear pjs outside late evening/early morning.

StarlightLady · Today 05:59

Not old clothes no. They are for doing the gardening.

In the summer, just a long floaty dress, nothing at all underneath (exception if on a period).

On cold days, Sweaty Betty leggings and warm top.

Meadowfinch · Today 06:32

During the week, I change when I get home. It marks the end of the working day and helps me relax. I swap from work clothes to my choice. So this week, from cotton dress and heels to shorts, a top, and flats.

Today I'll wear tidy casual for shopping and dropping off the car, then swap to cool cover-all while I check our bees, then change into running kit, then back to tidy casual when I finish.

If I'm doing a messy task (gardening, painting), I'll put old clothes on.

Wallywonker72 · Today 06:45

My work clothes are comfortable and informal - jeans and a top usually. So I rarely need to ‘get comfy’ at home, I just don’t wear uncomfortable ones in the first place! No suits to protect, no tights / skirts, no heels. If cooking, cleaning or gardening I put an apron on. I dress much the same at weekends as during the week, so really I just have ‘clothes’ 😄.

DH gets into PJs as early as he can - like 5pm sometimes. And they aren’t lounge wear - he likes old fashioned, button up pyjamas so it’s very obvious what he’s wearing. This is a pain as I have to answer the door / take the bins out 🙄.

Notsosweetcaroline · Today 06:53

No, because when I lost weight I realised most of the clothes I gave away were like new, I never got the wear out of them, the clothes I got the wear out of were the shite ones. So now I wear something lovely every single day,

however as I work from home I make sure it’s comfy and soft. But well fitting, well laundered, good quality and makes me feel good. Can be anything from wide leg trousers and a silk blouse of a maxi dress. I never ever wear anything that I don’t think looks lovely on.

swapsicles · Today 06:55

Depends, if my work clothes need washing then I might do some housework when I get in then change into Pjs afterwards.
On days off, again might do housework in my pjs and then get changed into either niceish clothes if I'm going out or comfy stuff if not.
Comfort is way more important these days than looking nice although answering the door last night to the police braless and only wearing a big t-shirt was less than ideal! ( Just door to door enquiry)

LlynTegid · Today 06:58

I don't have clothes solely for being at home, but some only ever worn when going into an office for work.

louderthan · Today 06:59

I change when I get home. My home clothes are all quite presentable though, so it’s not an issue to go out again if I need to get milk or whatever.

mushroomfairy · Today 07:01

Wake up
In to gym clothes and put an apron on to do breakfast
Shower at the gym and in to day clothes
I might put some loose/soft trousers on for lounging after dinner - at the moment it's so hot everything is coming off.
My apron gets a lot of use

I had worse when the postman saw me naked 😀.
