I’m 38 and don’t know what’s cool and what’s not.
Are these cool?

If she was wearing thick glasses in 2026, it indicates a very very complex prescription and difficult to correct eyesight or at best a person who cannot afford thinning for a complex prescription (the cost for such prescriptions is usually £600 plus).

Therefore at worst your comment is disablist and at best just utterly unkind.

I can’t see the original comment but as someone who fits this description I wish people would be kinder about thicker / higher prescription glasses. Not everyone can wear contacts. I can’t due to lupus and Sjogrens. I can’t have eye surgery to replace the lenses either. So I’m stuck with -10 astigmatism retinal issues which require £700 lenses which can’t be very thin even if they are thin! And they make my eyes look very small. But that’s just life for me.

That style always looks to me like they’ll cut your feet to shreds. I guess as long as they are very soft leather they will be ok. Buy them if you like them.

Splooterer · Yesterday 14:29

I buy quite a lot from Toast but I think these sandals are horrendous. Reminds me of sandals I had when I was a child. Hated them then too.

Maybeitllneverhappen · 21/05/2026 14:32

Personally I hate them as they remind me of what children had to wear in the 1970s or really "square" people wear. However, I'm aware that lots of people these days think they're cool and amazing. People like different things so if you like them, wear them.

Square people - LOL

Well I love them - very trendy and cool ! Much nicer than wearing trainers and sweaty feet!

It's not these OR trainers. There are lots of choices.

That's a sexy look!

Some would say " cool" 😂

Fizbosshoes · Yesterday 19:22

I like crocs but im super fussy about sandals.
I mostly wear flip flops type sandals, I dont think ive ever seen a pair of brown or tan leather sandals that I thought were nice, although I once had a pair of rose gold birkie style sandals from office that I liked. They wore out about 5 years ago and ive yet to find anything else that I like! (Apart from flip flops or crocs!)

I love the look, (never been fashionable) nut are they comfy for hours of walking?.

Practical and comfy first, care zero about fashionable, you do you, I do me.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Today 08:00

Fishermen’s sandals are widely available this year. M&S had very similar in leather and much cheaper.

FruAashild · Today 08:21

@Sadworld23 as comfortable as any other flat fashion shoe? I never understand why people as so concerned about how suitable a pair of sandals are for 'hours of walking', would you ask the same question about a pair of loafers or lace up shoes or ballet flats or trainers? You need to get a specialist pair of walking shoes if you're doing lots of walking over rough terrain. If you are walking about a city then the thing that will distinguish how comfortable a pair of shoes are will be the materials they are made out of not the style of shoe.

The Paraboot ones I have are very comfortable. They are a soft suede, the insole is padded and the sole is rubber. I've done hours and hours of walking in cities in hot weather in them

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Today 08:42

It’s ridiculous to say they aren’t fashionable! British Vogue did a whole article on them in March. Prada and The Row make them if you have £1000 to spend. There’s a lack of fashion knowledge on Style and Beauty, as usual. They are a strong trend for 2026.

Where did you buy them? They look lovely but seem to be very hard to find in the UK.

deeahgwitch · Today 09:05

They might be in fashion @MeetMeOnTheCornerbut they still look sh*te, even on the Vogue model. That’s my opinion. You’re entitled to yours.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Today 09:08

@deeahgwitch Why comment nastily on a thread about them? The op asked if they were fashionable! They are. So that’s non negotiable. What you like isn’t the point.

BIossomtoes · Today 09:32

Thank you @PhaedraTwo. How’s the sizing? I’m torn between the 4 and the 4.5.

TheyGrewUp · Today 09:42

I like the paraboot ones best out of all the options I've seen. They aren't a style I'd chose - some contributors to the thread would likely have a heart attack if I posted that. They are, however, fashionable.

Thank you @PhaedraTwo. How’s the sizing? I’m torn between the 4 and the 4.5.

I'm usually a very standard 37.5 to the point I can safely buy that size online from brands like Pretty Ballerina or Dune or All Birds or for Pretty Ballerina can wear, depending on the style, a 37 or a 38 if 37.5 isn't available. I've got All Birds for really sensible walking and they're 37. Lanx boots (bought online) and Joseph Cheaney boots, bought in store are comfortable 37.5.

For the Paraboot I had to take 5.5. (which presumably is a 38.5) I bought them in the shop on the same day I bought these. The box for these says UK 4 EU37. 5

I absolutely love them. I am not cool and don't think I could pull them off.

SAME. I might buy some anyway, as I love them so much.

I’m quite surprised at all the hate. Although I did laugh at “Smartest Giant in Town” Grin

If you can try in the shop that would be easiest. From my experience the 4 or the 4.5 is likely too small. If online I'd try the 5 or 5.5
