I’m 38 and don’t know what’s cool and what’s not.
Are these cool?

@SirChenjins You have no idea do you? The British Vogue website has very reasonably priced clothes featured. It’s very useful to see what the high street offers and how it compares to high end.

I’m 70 and I’m interested in fashion. I don’t want to be a dinosaur looking like a has-been from my youth. I like a refresh and new fashion ideas. It’s exciting and it’s what fashion is all about.

The op asked whether these sandals were fashionable right now. The answer is yes. Whatever you think, and your personal style, is irrelevant. Try reading something about fashion influences and design - you might be surprised that not everything is expensive. Red magazine is very good at picking out value buys.

Oh I have a very good idea - and I'm past the point of being swayed by fashion magazines. I have enough confidence in myself to know what I like and what I think is stylish, and I know what transient fashion is according to some magazine that has sales targets to reach. If you're 70 you'll have seen enough fashions come and go, some hideous and some not, but style is timeless and it ain't those shoes.

But if you like them then you go for it - it's only fashion after all.

AJLOAL · Yesterday 20:42

Ooh no. I wouldn’t be paid to wear them.

Twizzlelolly · Yesterday 21:13

Probably look great on some people. I would look like a granny/weirdo in them…..

Jumpingthruhoops · Yesterday 21:14

I would say that, while fisherman's sandals are very 'on trend', these ones specifically are more frumpy than fashionable. So personally I would keep looking...

PhaedraTwo · Yesterday 21:20

but style is timeless and it ain't those shoes.

In your opinion. And style isn't timeless.

ScouserSue · Yesterday 21:55

SpidersAreShitheads · 21/05/2026 14:14

I agree with this. I can’t understand this trend at all.

And I think that you have to have a certain vibe to be able to pull this type of sandal off which will almost exclusively be the domain of the young and uber-trendy.

But if you like them OP, get them. You won’t be the only one wearing this style, if that’s what’s troubling you.

100% this. Im no ageist. I am over 40 and have long hair and wear Daisy Duke shorts. However, these sandals (and all like them) are so disgusting that only the uber young and cool can pull them off (and even then, only just).

theyre awful

HappyCowgirl · Yesterday 21:56

They’re horrible and SO expensive for that too. Tan colour goes with everything, and I love the leather, but it’s a nope from me.
maybe try another tan leather type of sandal, and as others have said- never ever with socks - even ironically

Papster · Yesterday 22:00

Have you recently joined a church?

Feduptryingusernames · Yesterday 22:01

Love fisherman's sandals however, I wouldn't pay what they ask. M & S have lovely fishermans sandals (I prefer to the ones in the links) for about £50, white, black, tan & navy leather.

previouslyknownas · Yesterday 22:20

Fashionable if your over 80 or dead

80smonster · Yesterday 22:31

Like the Toast ones, don’t like the others, something about the sole means they kind of miss the trend.

Of course it's my opinion, what else would it be - and style is timeless, unlike fashion. Again, we're going to have to disagree.

Wear the shoes if you like them - don't if you don't 🤷‍♀️

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Yesterday 22:58

@FeduptryingusernamesAgreed about M&S. I have the tan version. Well made and good quality leather.

Dedham · Yesterday 23:07

ForeverTheOptomist · 21/05/2026 15:20

They are both old person sensible shoes.

I'm old (77) and they make me cringe 😂

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Yesterday 23:15

@Dedham See the Vogue pictures. They are not old person or entirely sensible. They are fashion 2026. Younger people like them. There are Prada and The Row versions as well as high st priced ones.

TheyGrewUp · Yesterday 23:22

They remind me of M&S Footglove sandals circa 2000. Does anyone else remember those?

Still… missing… the point

Sweetnbooksnradio4 · Today 00:06

They look very flat and I’d worry about all those edges rubbing your feet. They might not be very comfortable.

previouslyknownas · Today 00:13

They are ugly
I think if you were to wear them and look good you would need to be tall slim young and going to maybe a festival

they look like the sort of shoes you would wear if you want to keep your husband or partner as far away from you as possible 😂

Bowies · Today 01:05

Depends on your overall style as to how you carry them off, but they are classics IMO rather than fashion items.

ourSusie · Today 04:03

they are heavy and masculine looking,
but would look fine on a tall woman with long feet
I suspect that you have bought them anyway, OP
wear them and be damned ! is what I say

NoGarlic · Today 04:37

Style is timeless. Yes, indeed. any of these would be perfectly at home in a civilised gathering today.
😂

The fisherman style is good if you have a touch of fungal toenail as you can get some air to it and hide it at the same time. Speaks from experience.

Found some. My best friend had them in navy and I thought they were bloody awful. We were 40ish.

My friend had those in the mid 90s when we were both in our 40s. I remember saying to her that she was the only person I know who could make them look stylish. They were an aberration then. Obviously they’re not now because the shops are full of fisherman’s sandals at every price point and they’re not sitting on the shelves unbought.

Like most things how they look depends entirely on the wearer. They’re going to look different depending on the style of the person wearing them. It’s odd that someone should think they’re only going to look good on someone tall with big feet because I’d have thought the reverse was more likely.
