I’m 38 and don’t know what’s cool and what’s not.
Are these cool?

Honestly given some of the hideous recommendations given on here when somebody is trying to find a wedding outfit I would not ask.

FWIW I think they are really nice, I love the Fracap ones too in Toast. If you like them then go for it.

Every summer....

Got the M&S version and are so comfy and look great with linen trousers.
Was asked where I got them from by a woman in the bus queue the other day as well!

Sparrowsandbudgies · 21/05/2026 15:34

They’re very fashionable but you can get similar ones on ASOS (leather etc too) for a fraction of that price.

Livpool · 21/05/2026 15:36

Not my preferred style but I think they are currently popular/fashionable

Branleuse · 21/05/2026 15:36

I love them

forgivingfiggy · 21/05/2026 15:38

I think they are nice, but I also think you’d have to have quite a ‘cool’ style to pull them off. There are more mainstream brown leather sandals like Saltwater which are more mainstream.

OriginalPedant · 21/05/2026 15:44

They’re extraordinarily ugly. Unless you’re uber trendy, they would risk looking very frumpy.

DrCoconut · 21/05/2026 15:53

Old men used to wear them with shorts and white socks for the annual church seaside trip when I was little 🤣

Avocadoo · 21/05/2026 15:56

I’m definitely not trendy so perhaps I would look like a frump. I already have saltwaters and some nice Birkenstocks, maybe I’ll stick to those.

Love them

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 21/05/2026 16:10

@Avocadoo I just looked on the John Lewis website and they have some lovely white stuff pewter/silver and other colours in the sale that may be worth a go if you don’t want to spend too much 🤷🏻‍♀️

Malinia · 21/05/2026 16:17

I believe they are fashionable but I think those kinds if sandals are incredibly ugly and devoid of taste.

curious79 · 21/05/2026 16:28

Are you someone who can get away with wearing super fashionable but massively ugly things and it somehow looking ironic/chic?

Personally, if I ever stooped to wear these, and I would never because they are so ugly, I would look absolutely bloody awful. I think my toes would instantly grow hair, and somehow I’d managed to pick the frumpiest outfit to wear with them that made me look three stone heavier.

Ophir · 21/05/2026 16:28

They are fashionable

I hear the M&S ones are comfy too, they come in brown too

Ah, I’ve just posted about these!

OneNewLeader · 21/05/2026 16:31

I’ve been wearing a fisherman sandal on and off for nearly 60 years. The grenson version is a good shout. In terms of styling, someone mentioned COS, I’d add Studio Nicholson, Muji, Margaret Howell as well as Toast, if you’re looking for a few tips to style them. Ultimately, wear what you think will be comfortable, nothing worse than spending money and feeling self conscious.

Girlwithavibe · 21/05/2026 16:34

Love em !!! I have a black pair of toast ones I wear them with socks I don't care if there fashionable or not I love the style

Newmeagain · 21/05/2026 16:42

ForeverTheOptomist · 21/05/2026 15:20

They are both old person sensible shoes.

Out of interest, what sandals would you wear?

I love these but the toast ones look too wide.

3luckystars · 21/05/2026 16:49

I think they are ugly.

So they are probably cool!

Every summer....

Jesus creepers! That’s what we used to call them. And then avoid them. Usually seen on a male school teacher at our school.

allthingsinmoderation · 21/05/2026 17:07

Fishermans sandals are one of the biggest trends of 2026.
My personal opinion is they are absolutely hideous and those wearing them are fashion victims.(i have thought this about a number of fashion trends and succumed to some myself)
But my opinion doesn't matter ,if you like them and think they would suit you style ignore me and wear them!

GiddyLeader · 21/05/2026 17:12

Very cool style if the rest of your outfit is also up to date - e.g. looser or baggy jeans and short top and jacket, or modern sundress. They would look dated with styles from 5 years ago. Funnily enough, right now you could get away with coloured socks showing under ankle-length barrel/carrot/boyfriend jeans/trousers. It's the whole outfit, not just one element.
