Why is a good v neck tee really hard to find??

Am I really asking for the moon on a stick??

I'm apple shaped and V neck tees suit me. However, all I'm seeing right now are crew necks. They look fine when I'm wearing an open jacket over them, but otherwise I just look ... square.

To make matters more difficult, I'm very long waisted and many tops out there right now only come to my belly button. Not a good look.

About 3 or 4 years ago, m&s were selling exactly what I was looking for - v neck tees in long length (but not long on me) in a cotton / viscose (I think) mix that draped really nicely. They washed really well and are only now starting to look a bit faded.

But I can't find anything similar. So - can anyone help?? Slightly longer than standard V neck tees - good basics that go with anything. Thank you!!

Oh it is driving me insane in quite short so like a v neck so I don't have a shelf for boobs anyway they are like hens teeth. I ordered a couple from Dorothy perkins online and they are "fine" but not really what im looking for. I used to get some basics from Primark but they are now too clingy. I am feeling your pain. M&S did used to do nice ones you are right.

FlatErica · 10/05/2026 10:47

Cos do a good one (for me at least).

Windywuss · 10/05/2026 10:49

Totally agree. They're too short, especially if you have any kind of boobage. They don't drape because they're either horrible fabric or else that stiff kind of cotton. And def all round or Crewe neck.

I wanted some v necks too as I am feeling very matronly. Just bought a new bra with some advice here so I will see if that helps but I've resorted to wearing shirts and not t shirts.

Medee · 10/05/2026 10:50

I have bought a couple of T-shirts from Boody recently. They’ve got v and round necks, lovely quality and length. They’ve got v’s in their base layer style while the classic is a bit thicker www.boody.co.uk/collections/womens-tops-t-shirts?extra.filter_Style=short-sleeve

Nitgel · 10/05/2026 10:51

Oh I am having a look and feeling hopeful.

Yes nice plain v neck jumpers at a reasonable price are hard to find too. I’m wearing out a Boden thin knit I bought years ago and an old navy one from La redoute. Everything has fecking dropped shoulders too now which if you any kind of big boobs just makes you look huge. Bring back the v neck!

Comefromaway · 10/05/2026 10:53

The Cos ones are great quality but too big on my shoulders. I have one from Uniqglo that is pretty good.

Lomonald · 10/05/2026 10:55

NEXT used to do some but they have also gone "boxy" which is a total pain.

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/05/2026 10:56

I get mine from Peacocks or Asda. They're usually 100% cotton (or a small amount of elastane). They're not the best but cheap enough to replace.

PineappleSunrise · 10/05/2026 11:08

I feel your pain, OP! I have broad shoulders and big norks, and my upper body looks like a wide block in a crew neck. Especially a boxy, drop shouldered one - horrible.

This year I’ve found some good square neck tees at M&S. At least they open up my neckline, even if not v-necks.

magicpotion2026 · 10/05/2026 11:14

I’m 5ft 10 with boobs that take up a lot of t shirt length and have these which I live in

I'm thinking of buying this from Next - Black/White Stripe V-Neck Cap Sleeve T-Shirt

@PineappleSunrise I do love the word norks 😂

It's probably menopause, but god it's horrible shopping online. Everything is modelled on super young, super flat chested athletic youngsters (pulling weird faces and poses..). Anything I look at, I have a hard time imagining it on my body with boobs and curves.

Then you get some brands aimed at fatties but usually youthful and a bit extreme, so not terribly helpful either.

WoodlandDragon · 10/05/2026 11:18

I feel this pain too, forever hunting especially for nice colours rather than black or white... I had some luck with Amazon Essentials, these: https://amzn.eu/d/0d00oYeV - I'm a size 14 and buy a large. They are pretty good, and cheap, and at least with Amazon returns are straightforward and free.

@magicpotion2026 my Dd (33) has that stripey capsleeve t shirt its really nice on her.

Lomonald · 10/05/2026 11:23

Those amazon ones are nice do they sit below a waistband @WoodlandDragon

ginasevern · 10/05/2026 11:30

V neck Tees and jumpers are like hens teeth. It drives me nuts! I'm short with a petite frane and disproportionately big boobs. V necks are really flattering on me but crew necks don't sit right at all and accentuate my matronly bust. I found some really nice V neck Tees in Morrisons, nice fabric and a good length too so I bought six of them!

wizzler · 10/05/2026 11:34

agree completely. I’m very top heavy and I look ridiculous in crew necks. I’ve recently bought a couple of v necks from Amazon ( t shirts and light sweaters ) . The sweaters lose their shape but the t shirts are ok

JaneFondue · 10/05/2026 11:44

These Uniqlo linen v necks are great and very cool in summer. Plus not boxy and cropped.

EducatingArti · 10/05/2026 11:45

So for v neck t shirts, Cotton Traders and Lands end usually have a good selection.

For v neck jumpers, try Woolovers and Cotton Traders

Not very trendy but I find them good for basics.

Yes, nicely below on me - below hips.

YES, I know what you mean about youthful and extreme! I tried following some midsize & larger bust influencers, but they seem to spend a lot of time modelling stretchy, figure-hugging sexy outfits. I mean, they look nice and it’s a good reminder you don’t need to be a size 6 to look good, but I’m over 50 and not going to be spending most of my days dressed to attract attention!

I got a nice one in Mango recently
£12.99 thick cotton but not too thick
