Why is a good v neck tee really hard to find??

JoanThursday · 10/05/2026 10:42

Am I really asking for the moon on a stick??

I'm apple shaped and V neck tees suit me. However, all I'm seeing right now are crew necks. They look fine when I'm wearing an open jacket over them, but otherwise I just look ... square.

To make matters more difficult, I'm very long waisted and many tops out there right now only come to my belly button. Not a good look.

About 3 or 4 years ago, m&s were selling exactly what I was looking for - v neck tees in long length (but not long on me) in a cotton / viscose (I think) mix that draped really nicely. They washed really well and are only now starting to look a bit faded.

But I can't find anything similar. So - can anyone help?? Slightly longer than standard V neck tees - good basics that go with anything. Thank you!!

https://www.ullapopken.co.uk/en/search?query=v+neck+t Ulla Popken do very good quality v neck t-shirts up to UK size 42.
Sadly their smallest size is 16, and they currently have no plans to cater for all their customers who have lost loads of weight on WLP-1 injections, but if you are between size 16 and size 42 you could do a lot worse.

@Roaminginthegloaming what is the sizing like on the Lands End scoop neck, I don’t want anything tight across my apple tummy!

ItGivesMeTheRightHump · 10/05/2026 15:49

For more length in the arms try the Freya t shirt at Unfolded.

fluffiphlox · 10/05/2026 16:07

Kettlewell?

Funtime2 · 10/05/2026 16:21

Gap do them.

Doggymummar · 10/05/2026 16:58

MyFavouritePlace · 10/05/2026 17:45

Feel a right tit 😂as I've got massive boobs (30G) and never considered a v neck over a crew neck and hating how heavy I always look.
@JoanThursday thank you for starting this thread and everyone else for all the suggestions.
Now what to do with the 20 odd crew necks I have?!

Mcdhotchoc · 10/05/2026 17:48

The good news is that you got there in the end 😆 I have found the S&B section of MN filled with great advice and useful suggestions.

I want short sleeves that are a bit longer IYSWIM. My upper arms are wrinkly and saggy and I want sleeves that reach my elbows and don't cling. Meanwhile I have a rather thick, short neck, and a V is miles more flattering. I am also short waisted and stocky; long and/or boxy doesn't work.

So if anyone has found anything that ticks my boxes I'd love to know! Lands End and La Redoute used to do good stuff in the nineties/2000s, but not any more ☹️.

Yes! Me too, last year I bought 2 scooped necked t shirts with longer but still short sleeves which covered my crinkly areas on my arms perfectly, made me feel much more confident, I got them from TU but none available this year 😫 wish I had bought lots more.

These are great but you definitely need to size down. https://www.hush-uk.com/reece-v-neck-drapey-t-shirt-black/013171-0462.html

I don’t actually have this style of T shirt but I thought the price was pretty good….in my experience with the other Lands End products I’ve bought they tend to be generous in fit.

Customer service is excellent, maybe you could contact them and ask?

They do look good especially the sleeve length. I ‘m wondering if they’re a bit short in length?

Wow! A few hours away from my phone and look at all these recommendations! Thank you SO much - tons to look through here.

And clearly it's struck a chord. Pah to the crew neck! (And still chuckling at @MyFavouritePlace feeling like a right tit! 😂)

I like long v necks and get all mine from cotton traders. They do very nice T shirts. They do the usual black, white and navy too.

Not a t shirt but this is lovely from Zara. It’s quite oversized though.

I’m 5ft 10 with boobs that take up a lot of t shirt length and have these which I live in

I'm thinking of buying this from Next - Black/White Stripe V-Neck Cap Sleeve T-Shirt
https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU670960/AM3761

More of a tunic, v oversized
I'm thinking of buying this from Next - Friends Like These Black Short Sleeve Tunic
https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU971444/V10807

Really pretty on
https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc147725760

I have the tunic in ivory and it is nice but size down as it's baggy. The cap sleeve v neck I find strangely unflattering on - I can't put my finger on why though. It just looks strange on me. The fabric isn't very soft so maybe it's that?

Otherwise, following with interest! Size 16 apple and very upset that shops think I don't want the bottom half of Every.Single.Fucking.Top.

@JoanThursday

Check out the UK website of the American company Lands’ End. Their clothing is smart-casual but similar quality to Uniqlo, M&S, John Lewis own brand etc.

They currently have a sale on of scoop neck T shirts in various colours, original price was £35 but reduced to £13

www.landsend.co.uk (Go to the ‘Sale’ section)

These look great!

Edelweiss129 · 10/05/2026 19:38

I'm just about to return a bunch of basic V neck tees from Asda George, because they are too long for me- they come down below my b um and I'm 5'4".
That might work for you though?

Honestly I'll be 59 this year and this thread has been a revelation.
Now to find some decent v necks.

Gap do them.

Yes, I get mine from Gap. They're lovely cotton and aren't expensive.

BeretRaspberry · 10/05/2026 19:51

Urgh, I have the same issue but I prefer a scoop neck and I like them fitted. I also have a long body and most are far too short.
