Why is a good v neck tee really hard to find??

Am I really asking for the moon on a stick??

I'm apple shaped and V neck tees suit me. However, all I'm seeing right now are crew necks. They look fine when I'm wearing an open jacket over them, but otherwise I just look ... square.

To make matters more difficult, I'm very long waisted and many tops out there right now only come to my belly button. Not a good look.

About 3 or 4 years ago, m&s were selling exactly what I was looking for - v neck tees in long length (but not long on me) in a cotton / viscose (I think) mix that draped really nicely. They washed really well and are only now starting to look a bit faded.

But I can't find anything similar. So - can anyone help?? Slightly longer than standard V neck tees - good basics that go with anything. Thank you!!

I recently bought a few of these in various colours and have been happy with them https://www.next.co.uk/style/su670960/e59969

I have the Next ones. They're exactly what you're looking for but size down, they're very big.

These Gap ones are good too and I also have one from Morrisons but, again, suze down.

I second the crew clothing ones, they sell them in John Lewis

found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? www.johnlewis.com/crew-clothing-perfect-v-neck-slub-t-shirt/p111989643?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&s_share=jlappios_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ= crew clothing tshirt

I've also seen the White Stuff Nelly notch tshirt recommended on here, tried it on yesterday and it's very nice (comes in lots of colours & patterns)

I bought m&s ones for a couple of years. Cheap & cheerful & didn't last long, but lots of different colours. I think they've still hit them but not many colours this year.

Allseeingallknowing · 10/05/2026 13:55

Cotton Traders- they’re wrinkle free too!

GreenLemonade · 10/05/2026 13:56

I have a few of those amazon essentials ones. I actually dislike them because they are way too long on me but they might be the perfect length for you!

Hmmm. I'm wearing one now, brand name Pure

https://www.purecollection.com/womens/tops-and-t-shirts?page=1&style=102&fetch=1

However they are short in body length (I too am long-bodied) but I can tuck it in all the same. They're pure linen.

@JoanThursday

Check out the UK website of the American company Lands’ End. Their clothing is smart-casual but similar quality to Uniqlo, M&S, John Lewis own brand etc.

They currently have a sale on of scoop neck T shirts in various colours, original price was £35 but reduced to £13

I have actually started buying men's (well, "unisex") t-shirts recently. I have a belly and large boobs and the shorter women's fits inevitably shrink slightly after first wash, leaving an air gap around the muffin top if I sit or stretch. Men's tees have a longer body and actually look more slimming on me, even with a round neck. Balances out the boob-shelf effect a bit!

I need to start doing this, because all my 100% cotton women's tees shrink, despite washing on delicate and hanging up to dry. Why does this happen?

GentleSheep · 10/05/2026 14:18

Celtic and Co also do some, they look longer in the body:

I want short sleeves that are a bit longer IYSWIM. My upper arms are wrinkly and saggy and I want sleeves that reach my elbows and don't cling. Meanwhile I have a rather thick, short neck, and a V is miles more flattering. I am also short waisted and stocky; long and/or boxy doesn't work.

So if anyone has found anything that ticks my boxes I'd love to know! Lands End and La Redoute used to do good stuff in the nineties/2000s, but not any more ☹️.

Agree! Colours are disappointing this year, all so muted.

Have not read whole thread so sorry if duplicating.
I recently bought a nice V-necked tee friom Next. Its called "Long Sleeved Slouch V-Neck". I bought it in size S even though i am a 14, as didn't want baggy. It fits really well as reasonably fitted but just loose enough to be cool. Its a nice cool cotton fabric. Like you I am long-waisted and it is nice length on me. I am always on the look out for a nice V neck.🌷

I third/fourth Amazon essentials. I’ve tried loads lately while looking for nice V and scoop neck t-shirts. I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of them (and price!). I’m also 5’9 and with a long torso.

I feel this pain too, forever hunting especially for nice colours rather than black or white... I had some luck with Amazon Essentials, these: https://amzn.eu/d/0d00oYeV - I'm a size 14 and buy a large. They are pretty good, and cheap, and at least with Amazon returns are straightforward and free.

Seconded. The Amazon ones are (surprisingly) good and wash well.

I am five foot 2 and recently got rid of all my Benetton t shirts as they come down to beyond my hips and look ridiculous!
