Please be honest
I’ve always had chunky thighs and calves, and I’m about half a stone over my ideal weight.
i have very blotchy legs so will add fake tan!

Can I wear these shorts?

I’m really trying to not make this about me, and I know even thin women have insecurities about their bodies, BUT I do wish that slim women would stop posting stuff like this. All it makes me think, is that slim women are judging my actual fat legs in shorts and thinking I shouldn’t be wearing them.

You know on MN anyone over 9st is a fat pig.

Nah, only according to a few sociopaths who haunt the weight loss and WLI threads.

I'm not convinced their opinions are valid.

NoisyBuilder · 30/04/2026 13:56

OP. you look great.

I'd love your legs but I'm blessed with little chonky ones. I still enjoy feeling the sun on my skin though, so I whack on the fake tan & out they come.

Do an experiment - go for a walk in your shorts and if anyone looks at your legs and dies, don't wear them again.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 30/04/2026 14:02

@MsAlignment ill have a look through
@NoisyBuilder yes thats a good idea

I’d happily swap legs with you..🙌🏻 I still can’t decide if I can get away with these? I have v skinny legs.. like twiglets (Sorry to hijack!) (also pyjama top 😆)

Can I wear these shorts?

Awww thank you
my thighs curve right out above the knee though?
am I overthinking it?

That is your knee bone and ligament 🙄
Theres absolutely nothing wrong with your legs as I'm sure youre aware. As pp have said you could get nicer more flattering shorts though

I know that. But if you post online that you think your legs are too fat for those shorts when they clearly aren’t, I know what your opinion is on mine without you saying.
as I said, I know this isn’t about me etc etc but seriously. I opened the thread to be positive to someone who I assumed was a lot larger than you, and encourage them to wear what they feel comfortable in, but what I found was a very slim legged woman. It’s disheartening and I know that’s not how you meant it, but it really is. I know several size 10 women who are happy to moan to their much larger friends about how fat they are and it’s just awful. I know this not what you did or intended and I wrestled with posting this but I have. Sorry for derailing.

Same.

I have lipodema, so actual legs like actual telegraph poles covered in white pudding. Or two string bags full of porridge.

For 50 years I've avoided wearing shorts, and a couple of years ago thought 'fuck it'. But if the OP's frankly beautiful legs are considered by her to be 'fat', I shall retreat once more to the bathing machine.

CountBoscoTheSecondsWife · 30/04/2026 14:17

OP you have lovely shapely legs and I think you should wear shorter shorts.

BrentfordForever · 30/04/2026 14:23

@Twoshoesnewshoes feel free to post what you like

its ridiculous to tell OP not to post due to others’ insecurities

i ll find you a more skirty short type OP

I’m not saying that people shouldn’t post. If op had posted, do these shorts work on my shape, or are these shorts flattering, I wouldn’t have said anything. It’s the “can I get away with these or am I too big” questions that are always on here from very slim women, that I dislike

Twoshoesnewshoes · 30/04/2026 14:34

@BrentfordForever thank you! They look great!
@Inwhitelights I think they look good, love the colour

Im in between size

I am neither fat nor skinny.

So I am slimmer than alot of people. And fatter than alot of people.

I naturally compare myself to the slimmer people. And I end up thinking I'm fat. Id hate to think I was offending people with my thoughts, but unfortunately the media have convinced women for far too many years that our bodies are never right.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/04/2026 15:04

Yes absolutely

Edited

To be fair, I don’t think they’re the most flattering shape for you sorry.

stopthemud · 30/04/2026 15:07

They look too big for you OP, maybe try a higher more fitted waist. You have nothing to worry about with your legs though. Lovely.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/04/2026 15:10

This reminds me when I was a very slim 21 year old (with a teeny bit of cellulite) and I tried on some short denim shorts (skimming the butt cheeks but not indecent), I thought I looked awful but salesgirl said they looked good so I bought them. FFW a few years later in my 30s and 10 stone I freaked out in Gap about shorts, just usual ones. Fellow shopper in changing room said I looked fine, and I did, with a bit of gradual tan and then tanned properly on holiday.

Corknut · 30/04/2026 15:12

If you are chunky I have no hope you look fantastic

SpiralSister · 30/04/2026 15:21

This is absurd.

Your legs are, of course and obviously, fine.

They would also be fine in shorts if you were overweight.

Wear the damn shorts, as some warrior woman once said.

EstherGreenwood63 · 30/04/2026 15:28

They look great. PLEASE ignore any advice to buy slimmer fitting shorts. Ye gods...

Reginette · 30/04/2026 15:30

With legs like that, you can wear anything! We are our worst critics.

Workinggreen · 30/04/2026 15:31

You would die if you saw my chunky calves and thighs if you think these are chunky

I think it just proves that people (women) are too busy judging their own bodies to look at anyone else’s.

DaisyChain505 · 30/04/2026 16:02

Are the chunky thighs and calves in the room with us?

You look great, wear the shorts.

(Even if you did have chunky thighs and calves you should still wear the shorts. We all deserve to wear comfortable weather appropriate clothing no matter our size.)
