Anyone interested in a glow-up support thread for tips and accountability?

Is anyone interested in a glow up support thread? I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to keep me accountable, share tips and things to avoid etc.

Glow up can be for any reason, summer, anti-aging, wedding etc?

I’m just about to turn 42, always looked young but in the past few years I have noticed age creeping up on me. I need to lose a bit of weight, need to improve tone and texture of my arms and legs. My face is dull and suffers with open pores so lots to work on for me 😂

Would love to hear from anyone else looking to work on their appearance too 👋

This weekend I am fully glowing up. I am going to set aside at least 2-3 hours for a full everything shower, I need to scrub and moisturise, I need to colour my hair and sort my feet out - going on holiday in a week! There’s no chance of any weight loss now but at least I could look a bit lesss knackered

BloomingHazel · 15/05/2026 22:14

@thenewaveragebear1983 that's very interesting! I wonder if a core hold is more what I do now 🤔 as I've never had any pain. I actually relaxed my stomach muscles last night for a few seconds, it felt so odd! I also looked about 5 months pregnant 😪
(I actually typed this a couple of days ago and apparently it didn't post 🙄)

I really don't want to give any bad advice to anyone, I promise!

BloomingHazel · 15/05/2026 23:51

It sounds like lots of glowing up going on! Well done to those of you who have weight loss and muscle gain!

I had my roots done earlier this week and got my hair cut shorter than normal, it feels so much better!
I also bought a new wave crimper and tried it out this morning, it's going to take some practise. My hair was a little wild today!
This weekend I'll be taking my time in the shower with a body scrub to get ready to apply my self tanner. I'll try to remember to apply my teeth whitening strips before I get in the shower as well.

I'm making sure I walk on my breaks at work and I plan on doing at least one spin bike session this weekend. I'm also trying to pay attention to my hunger cues.

@BloomingHazel I don’t think you did give bad advice ❤️ I think a bit like with pelvic floor exercises, the movement for DR is more of an internal “hold”, you should still be able to breathe properly through the movement etc. I’ve lost track of who posted now but if you have DR and rib flare together I would bet they are related and probably stem from pregnancy. I never thought a chiropractor could help with this but mine is a legend, best £50 I ever spent. She sort of tapped my ribs back into shape and pushed my diaphragm back under my rib cage!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2026 13:37

Just sorted through my wardrobe and I am embarrassed to say I had over 20 pairs of trousers! And almost all of them fitted, so why on earth I live in one pair I do not know. What I actually need is tops, some nicer more detailed tops, so that i actually have something to wear with them. So I am hitting town this afternoon with ds to go and see what’s there.

Chocolatecoffeecup · 16/05/2026 14:33

I think it is all probably related @thenewaveragebear1983

I did park run today but ran / walked down and walked back up so about 7 miles total but was a mix of running and walking! It's more than 10k though so that makes me feel a bit better about the 10k next month.

I then had a shower and scrubber and moisturised. My skin is looking good, not sure if it's the moisturiser or the supplements I'm taking or the jones road miracle balm that I love. Might use some manucurist on my nails to make them look nicer but I do feel like it's a waste to make an effort as I'm not going anywhere.

Lots of progress on this thread, I like it.

I had a minor OP last week so no gym workouts for a couple of weeks until my stitches are removed. I'm struggling with this as I really love the gym these days and the gym showers are nicer than mine so have a full beautfying routine when I go.

Currently I'm showering in weird positions to keep my dressing dry, so I'm leaving my hair a day or 2 longer than I normally would. However, I'm getting dressed nice every day, some make up and perfume, my hair styled, embedding skincare routines and enjoying home beauty treatments. The mini facial wax pot was a success for brow waxing. The lash lift, less so but the just for men beard dye for eyebrows hack has been excellent. I've found a couple of spf skin tints that are fab ans I love the wonderskin lip tints.

Whilst on gym hiatus, I'm formalising a glow up plan and journal with AI/ Instagram/ Pinterest based on my style goals/ body type/ colours and personality type (I love that nonsense, I'm an INFJ and Enneagram 5w6 if you understand all that). I love a good journal with colourful trackers and plans but unfortunately my perfectionist tendencies ruin the fun sometimes.

So after yesterday’s clothing revelation I ended up sorting out all my summer clothes. I am really surprised to have as many things still fit me actually, but my problem is I have items but not outfits! I need shoes to wear with most of them and for some I don’t have the right tops. But it’s a start. I’ve made a bit of a commitment to myself to actually wear these things, try new combinations and actually workout what I need to make things into proper outfits and stop buying things just because I like them - they have to work!

today a lot of grooming is going on- must must must colour my hair, will do my gleam strips, and soak and moisturise my feet, paint my toenails etc (basically get myself holiday ready)

Bananadramatic · 17/05/2026 08:04

Checking in to keep myself accountable and having been inspired by you all (I previously posted under a different username).

I am just a bit chubbier than I used to be, but lost 4 kilos in 6 months, so am motivated to keep going, and shaved 1-2 inches off my waist and hips, which is what I wanted.

It's now tempting to fall back into old habits, though, but I am having a mileatone birthday in August so am aiming for that and having beautifully toned arms by then.

I am good at keeping up eyebrow threading, dermatologist visits and gym. I keep my nails short, buffed and moisturized and get my hair cut every 4 months or so. Teeth whitened at dentist once a year.

Trying to drink more water, am also taking supplements that really seem to be doing the trick (vit D, probiotics, omega 3, magnesium at night).

Sandysandytoes · 17/05/2026 08:23

Checking in!
I love this thread! It’s so nice to think of us all taking more care of ourselves!
I have been sticking with the weights at home, and doing make up every day. Need to order some more gleam strips, but thinking I might get teeth properly whitened at the dentist, I’m just scared of sensitivity.
Bought a burgundy Madeline mascara because I thought it would be less harsh and more flattering. It’s horrible and clumpy compared to my normal Lancôme though and just looked black to me. Next task is toes, urgh, they are shocking with a fungal nail and infection I’ve had since pg about 20 years ago. I want to conceal it and wear sandals again! I have tried everything to treat it and have accepted that concealment is the only answer!

AmIJustCrapAtFemaleFriends · 17/05/2026 08:51

I can't find the post now, but yesterday I was watching this Asian young girl on Instagram and she basically said - this is what I do to make sure I am low maintenance for the rest of the month and save money;

Home dye roots
Wax upper lip and eyebrows
Tint eyebrows, home laminate
Own manicure and gel polish own nails

This may be really obvious to some of you but it just made me think as I strive to be one of these no makeup makeup people, or as she does it, low maintenance (after doing high maintenance) people. It just made me realise that to look fresh and natural, it is going to take some behind the scenes effort 😅

@thenewaveragebear1983 im like this, tons of clothes but say no nice tops to go with stuff. I went into my office and found some wide plain trousers, but then saw this equally wide blouse which I thought id never worn before. So I wore this together and although colours worked, it just added so much volume to my already wide look. Then I realised I had no nice shoes last minute so ended up with some low silver stripey trainers. On the whole it just looked a bit mismatched which annoyed me as I have so many clothes!!!

It makes me want to hide away till the magic day I lose weight

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/05/2026 10:57

I’m the same @Eesha, I don’t wear anything flouncy or frilly or patterned or with words on and then what I do end up wearing feels drab and plain. I’m really trying to get more adventurous as well and find my style, I actually look best in more formal clothes but then I feel overdressed.

I’m working on it- I like vest tops but I am realising they need to be v neck or square neck, they need wide straps, they need to not have that weird cutaway style of recent years, they need to be long enough, and ideally if they have a little detail like a button or a ruche then even better. It’s worth paying more to get thicker fabric that washes better. Now all I need to do is find them!

Neuronimo · 17/05/2026 17:31

I am exactly the same with whole outfits. I have so many tops but struggle with trousers. I am on a mission to find flattering jeans this year. I was surprised that I do like a pair of White stuff, barrel leg cropped jeans I found on vinted. Part of the problem is I have a very short inside leg. I do love the look of wide leg trousers they can lengthen the leg, so maybe that's the direction to go.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/05/2026 19:35

I like barrel shape as well, especially high waisted as i have a narrow waist but big hips/thighs so i find the sizing better cut for my shape.

LBB2020 · Yesterday 22:08

I don’t feel like I’ve done much “glowing up” the past week but I’ve kept up with walking more and have been getting to bed earlier (I’m terrible for late night doom scrolling and before I know it it’s past midnight!). I’ve booked an exercise class to try tomorrow and also booked to get my roots done next week. I still haven’t sorted out my wardrobe so will try to get that done over the bank holiday weekend.

thenewaveragebear1983 · Today 06:34

I’ve had a good couple of days. I’ve been trying to wear “real clothes” rather than wfh (dog walking ) clothes and it’s amazing how much more pulled together I feel when I do that. I sorted out a load of stuff and put some on vinted, and I bought two tops which fit my criteria, and I have about £30 left in my vinted account which I will enjoy spending while I’m away.

the sun is going to shine and that always makes me feel better and a bit of a glow helps doesn’t it?

I have signed up to the Zoe app for 3 months, it’s bit gimmicky but actually I quite like it and it’s definitely made me focus differently on what I’m eating. I have already lost a couple of pounds! It feels doable and feels like I can do it while I’m away as well (we are uk self catering so no excuse)

Carriemac · Today 08:16

I’m amazed with the teeth whitening strips , they actually make a difference to my 60 year old teeth . My profilo has made my face look fuller - in a good way Smile and I asked for filler for my pillow crease and she said I didn’t t need it !

Neuronimo · Today 08:42

I haven't done a lot on the glow front this week. I have ordered the Byoma collagen radiance mask and would like to try the gatineau golden glow tan which was recommended somewhere. I've done the summer switch over late this year and need to do something before my legs come out of hibernation.

My other task this week is to do an edit/declutter of all my cosmetics lotions and potions and come up with a wish list, so that things are more streamlined.
