Anyone interested in a glow-up support thread for tips and accountability?

Is anyone interested in a glow up support thread? I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to keep me accountable, share tips and things to avoid etc.

Glow up can be for any reason, summer, anti-aging, wedding etc?

I’m just about to turn 42, always looked young but in the past few years I have noticed age creeping up on me. I need to lose a bit of weight, need to improve tone and texture of my arms and legs. My face is dull and suffers with open pores so lots to work on for me 😂

Would love to hear from anyone else looking to work on their appearance too 👋

My exercise has been really consistent recently, 2 weight training sessions and 2 cardio per week. Feel like im really making good progress with my weights and getting stronger by the week. Skincare has been good too, I need to get back into teeth whitening, so that’s the next habit to build in on my list.
Re brows and lashes, I cannot recommend good old fashioned castor oil highly enough. It’s another thing I’ve got back into in the last 6 weeks or so as part of my evening skincare routine and the difference it’s made is amazing. My brows are growing through thicker and I’m getting new growth where I’ve had to fill in the gaps before.

Yes I have re discovered castor oil too. I bought a roller ball glass bottle and am using it in the jowl area and on the awful marionette lines as well as eyebrows and forehead. I can't tolerate it on eye lashes sadly as it is supposed to promote growth. I do it last thing after using tret. It is also improving the lines around my lips.

CurlsandCurves · 23/05/2026 12:52

@SmallTreeDeepRoots I just massage it into my brows and gently brush over my lashes. It’s so cheap and you don’t need a lot at all.

House to myself this evening . Had a dry body brush delivered by Amazon this afternoon so just gave myself a good going over with that , God the amount of dry skin that was coming off in clouds . My house is going to need extra dusting !
jumped in the shower before slathering myself in Aveeno skin renewal which is supposed to help with pillar ketosis .

Have been doing very little on the glowing up front 😫 really need to tackle weight I think. Am not technically overweight (just about, bmi is 24.9) but am carrying so much weight on my stomach that nothing fits right, everything just strains across my stomach. Also carry excess weight on my face so I end up looking very puffy.
Am thinking a lot about makeup, I'm definitely stuck in a rut here and need some help! Any YouTube/insta/fb recommendations for who to follow for some simple up to date makeup advice?

LBB2020 · 25/05/2026 08:35

@Ihaveaskedyouthrice I am the same! I weighed myself for the first time in a couple of months (I had been putting it off) and had a shock! My BMI I just tipping into the overweight category!
I downloaded MyFitnessPal yesterday and dragged my family out for a long walk in the evening when it was cooling down a bit

Carriemac · 25/05/2026 09:16

Had an expensive but great overhaul of skincare and make ip
in Liberty on Friday , am resolved to commit to skincare routine now

I do need to dye my hair , the roots are just starting to creep through .
But I'll do a hair mask today and dye later in the week .
Booked for haircut at the weekend so I need to decide what I want done .

Still keeping up with my vitamins
Still keeping up with taking sugar and sweets out of my diet . I haven't weighed myself but round my belly feels better .

I sorted through my box of handbags and have some to recycle , as does DD.
Bought some new bras to replace some scruffy ones .

Morning! Found this thread last night, very inspiring. Wondered if anyone takes olive oil shots for their health/skin??

Sandysandytoes · 29/05/2026 08:36

This thread is really helping me keep doing things. Weights are going well and I feel stronger, I’m not overweight but dislike my ‘Mum-yum’ and that doesn’t seem to be shifting. Eating well - it is so much easier in the summer! I’d like to hear more about castor oil? My eyebrow hairs are transparent (literally) and sparse, dye doesn’t seem to stick and the eyebrow mascara stuff is a pita to get right every day.

Grapewrath · 29/05/2026 23:27

Love so many of these ideas!

My stitches are out so back to the gym this week. Two weeks off, I've really missed it. I'll be going in a bit so that'll be 5x this week which is my ideal. I'm at my goal weight and officially a size 10 now which I'm over the moon about having been a size 20 3yrs ago.

Today is my pamper evening, so everything shower, face mask, steam, hair wash and style. I am planning to do some tooth whitening and IPL later on.

I'm looking into the soul makeover stuff, gratitude journals, mindfulness, meditation, intentions, affirmations. It is a fascinating thing. It is leading me towards spending time in nature and wearing metaphorical rose tinted glasses to always focus on the good whilst acknowledging the bad.

I look forward to seeing everyone's updates 💕

Haircut , I don't go for changes , but a tidy up , some length off .
Hairdye to be done later today
I did a face exfolliant scrub.
I've got some retinol cream but all the warnings not to use in sunlight , so left it off this week. (I know you're meant to use sunscreen with it ) . I'll give it a try next week .
Bought a couple of tops to go with patterned skirts , just plain Tshirts but look nice , and ordered a cotton shirt in lemon, which isn't a colour I go for but thought I'll try ( yes I know yellow has been everywhere since Feb Grin )

I've seen loads of those 'pop-ups' on Google for the shots . Never tried them but EVOO( Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and a couple of tbsp lemon juice first thing before breakfast .
I read the side effects ( gastric ) to confirm what I thought Yeah someone like me with IBS doesn't need to be drinking olive oil .

LBB2020 · 31/05/2026 11:32

My first week of tracking calories on MyFitnessPal and I’m 2lb down, happy with that! I’ve averaged 13,000 steps per day this week too. Had my hair done during the week and this morning I’ve scrubbed my feet and currently have foot mask socks and a face mask on.
Hoping to book an exercise class for my day off this week and continue with calorie tracking and increasing step count.

Well done, that weight loss is amazing.

Carriemac · 01/06/2026 11:21

That is inspirational

Neuronimo · 05/06/2026 13:34

Lumion, I've also been doing a gratitude journal since April. I do think well being does start with the mind, though I enjoy all of the outward stuff too.

The glow up project is going well here. I had a pamper session on my birthday, starting with a session with my new red light mask and then the byoma collagen sheet mask, which was lovely. I exfoliated and got my legs looking lovely and then, as happens every year, I gashed my legs on the same outside pot and have a big bruise and scratch 😁I am using my castor oil on that so it is working hard at multi tasking.

I haven't lost any more weight, I'm maintaining the 7lb weight loss and enjoying the low carbing and lovely salads. Still trying to increase the protein. I've also kept up with the supplements and have added in the vitamin C as suggested. I finally got my hair cut and coloured too.

I am still struggling to walk because of severe plantar fascilitis, but have been working out on a vibration plate with weights at least five days a week. The squats are really helping with leg strength and core stability. I really am feeling a lot more energetic!

Chocolatecoffeecup · 05/06/2026 14:52

I've lost a few pounds this month and toned up a bit, feel much better. Exercises have helped my diastasis recti.

I'm using uk lash to help my eyelashes and taking supplements daily. I can see a difference in my skin and hair.

I need to dye my hair again.

LBB2020 · 05/06/2026 18:05

Sounds like everyone is doing well!
I've kept up with tracking calories, increasing my steps and went to an exercise class during the week.
I also sorted through my wardrobe and managed to sell a few things on Vinted and dropped some stuff off at the clothes bank.
Planning a pamper session this evening once the kids are in bed.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/06/2026 22:23

I’m so unbelievably tired this week, three weird office days training new starter and then working at full pelt to catch up, no exercise, sons birthday, etc etc. I’ve not done a whole lot of self care and it shows.

I was doing well on my gleam strips but have not used them, my roots need done AGAIN and I need a pampering bath and do my exfoliating and feet. On the positive side though I have done Zoe plan all week and I feel good on it, I have slept ok and I did manage a couple of easy 5k runs to keep my legs ticking over. I am looking very (natural) tanned after holiday, I have sold a few bits on vinted and have bought a couple of nice dresses to wear to work and on holiday.

Thundertoast · 06/06/2026 09:09

Hoping I can join - loads of great suggestions, im going to look into the dry body brush! I started fake tanning a couple of years ago and it did loads for my confidence (am very pale, and not in a pale and interesting way) but the fake tan does dry my skin out a bit on my legs, which of course then makes it hard to fake tan...

Im on a mission to lose 10lb, I lost 2 stone a while back (I was just into the overweight category of BMI) eating well and walking to the gym 4-5 times a week and i've never felt better in my body or had more energy, its crept back on so id like to get to that. Did absolute wonders for my anxious nature though, most importantly! So thats my main goal, along with keeping on top of a good tan routine, dyeing my eyebrows, drinking lots of water (pretty good at this) and continuing to baby my fine, prone to damage hair. Need to get back into only using heat on it once a week!
Hello everyone 😊

Neuronimo · 06/06/2026 09:22

@ Thunder I find one of those scratchy metal glove things works well for dry skin on legs. I am after a really nice non greasy exfoliator. Like the body shop moringa scrub, but I think that it is discontinued.

LBB2020 · 06/06/2026 09:35

I’ve been using the naturium glycolic acid body wash and my skin feels lovely and soft afterwards

Neuronimo · 06/06/2026 10:16

I'll try that thanks!

LumionaMoonsplash · 06/06/2026 20:27

For soft smooth skin, I use an African net with shower gel, gently every shower, I don't use body scrubs now. I always use body lotion or body oil spray (I like Sanctuary one) if I'm in a rush, it makes such a difference. I have a Urea balm stick for my heels that I chuck on at the end and I've not been embarrassed in slip ons this summer.
