Going to a wedding early June and I have bought this, it looks nice on buy not sure if I will go with it yet. I am blonde with a tan 5 feet 3 size 10. Is it ok and if so please can you suggest shoes, bag, jacket or cardigan and a fascinator. Thanks very much

Honestly OP, it looks like something fairly cheap from say New Look, that my friends and I might have worn to an 'occasion' in the mid-2000s when we were 18-21. The base colour is also white, which most people avoid for a wedding.

It's a hard no from me, it looks very dated, sorry.

I actually wore a very similar dress from Matalan to a wedding in 2009 - and there were multiple other people in the same dress, how embarrassing 🤣

Roman is not really somewhere I’m going for the latest fashions…. And the salsa one looks cheap and unsuitable, not sure what the point is in comparing two other unsuitable recommendations to the OP’s choice?

Just that they were far from an improvement over the OP's choice.

Really nice dress and wearable for well just about anything you'd fancy wearing a dress to.

OhDear111 · 13/03/2026 23:37

@Travelcrazy I think it’s ok. I think Coast made dresses like this a while ago! However not sure it’s entirely dated. I don’t like the belt. It needs something at the waist so maybe a black suede belt? Or black satin? Sparkly buckle?

It’s going to be difficult to match the turquoise in terms of bag and shoes. I would not even try. I’d maybe look for silver grey. Failing that black. There’s loads of headbands around instead of a fascinator. This could be easier to find in teal/turquoise. I’d ask around other guests regarding a hat. Most hats are saucers on headbands - look at Hostie hats for inspiration. I agree you don’t want to be the only one in a hat but this wholly depends on the wedding. Many weddings do have hats if it’s a smart wedding. Jacket? Maybe grey? Or black? Not much else will go with it.

The OP has decided its not for her . She asked for opinions & got honest answers which included yes it is dated. Why go against her decision when she could feel more confident in another dresss. I thought honesty is what this forum was all about. The fact I first saw this dress & thought 'eek' at least there are some people telling their truth

I adore that dress & have it saved in my wish list in case it reappears (in the biggest size!!).

It might though be a bit long for the OP at 5' 3"? Though Rixo might have some bargains in its petite range.

Sorry but honestly you must be a wind-up

Afraid not, though I seem to be winding you up ... not sure why?!!

Others really like this Rixo dress - are they wind-ups too??

I just don't think that having your boobs exposed at the side of your dress is a great look at a wedding.

But we clearly have very different tastes ... & that's fine.

Me, apparently ... 😄!!!

@Travelcrazy

I'm not going to offer an opinion on your dress, only that one person's classic is another person's dated, & that this thread is absolute proof of that!

If you did decide to wear it, there's been a bewildering amount of conflicting advice on here - so I feel for you!!

And in your responses to various PPs, you have sounded a bit unsure about which direction to take in styling the dress - understandably so!!

If you've definitely decided to ditch the dress, I suggest you start a new thread, maybe with a bit more info on what colours & styles & patterns you like/dislike?

Maybe don't start it on a a Friday night next time, though - best to get style advice from the (mostly) sober ... 😁!!!

Women in their 60s have no need to start dressing any differently to when in their 40s. I'm not saying like teenagers or 20s but why the fear of being a little edgy or fashionable. I'm not referring to the OP or her choice of dress, rather the idea wearing something dated is ok if your over a certain age. It's fine if women are happy with a dated look but its definitely not a rule just because you've reached a certain age. I like the idea a poster made when she suggested a cropped leather or suede jacket. Its all a matter of taste though & what you suit & feel comfortable wearing.

Eh? I’m not entirely certain what you’re on about - sorry.

i don’t think so, no one seems to be saying it’s current, what some posters are saying is they like it, but they don’t like current styles and prefer dressing in an outdated manner,

Wildgoat · 14/03/2026 06:26

This post I don’t understand, you appear to have found a random dress you dislike and said you’d rather wear the ops.

personal taste aside, that dress you linked is a lot more current than the ops. I would look at a guest in that and assume it was new, I would look at the ops and assume she’d had it in her wardrobe a long time or she bought it second hand from a charity shop or vinted, I would not think it was a new dress. It is also much lower quality than the Hobbs one.

the op wasn’t asking if people liked it and if they could find dresses they disliked more , and would rather wear hers instead, she was asking if it was dated,

I think on balance for me, to say is something dated, would I look at it and thinks it was an old item of clothing, due to the cut,the material etc, and yes I would look at the ops dress and think she’d dragged it from the back of her wardrobe or bought it second hand from someone else who dragged it from the back of their wardrobe, where it had lingered for years.

Ophir · 14/03/2026 07:00

This is all getting pretty mean now

I hope you have a lovely time at the wedding @Travelcrazy 😊

OhDear111 · 14/03/2026 08:33

Is the op in Ireland? I would not look to an Irish seller. The dress is very Boden. So much easier to return if wrong!

Shellythesnail2333 · 14/03/2026 09:36

bring it up to date by losing the sash, replace with black skinny belt. Team with a boxy black (a pastel look to match the blue flowers will make it look too aged) short jacket, (not a pashmina or cardigan which will date it) and a soft bag and black point toe kitten heel sling backs. If boiling hot on the day jacket can come off but you’ll still look summery cause of the colour of the flowers on the dress, and be cool as it sleeveless. If weather colour or raining u have your jacket and covered toes. Some of the alternatives suggested are a frumpier option.

minnowonthesay · 14/03/2026 10:12

I generally think that if you ask the question like ‘is it dated’ you’re already are in two minds as that thought has entered your head. It’s not obligatory for everyone to be super current, even on S & B it should still be accepted that we all have wildly differing tastes and budgets and want to wear old faves sometimes!
@Travelcrazyif I were you I’d use the excuse of a wedding to go shopping and get excited for the up coming event - enjoy being able to buy something new and then if you can’t find anything revert back to your original dress with black shoes etc as suggested.

Wildgoat · 14/03/2026 10:16

That first yellow one is shockingly bad, the ops is actually better and that’s saying something,
