Going to a wedding early June and I have bought this, it looks nice on buy not sure if I will go with it yet. I am blonde with a tan 5 feet 3 size 10. Is it ok and if so please can you suggest shoes, bag, jacket or cardigan and a fascinator. Thanks very much

I wore a very similar one with a pink palette for my British citizenship ceremony in 2018, with a cropped cream jacket on top. I have lost some weight recently but I'll take it to a tailor, I still love it and would totally wear it on another occasion, don't gaf.
Black or turquoise accessories both fine. A wedding isn't supposed to be the latest fashion show so go with what you like!

RaraRachael · 13/03/2026 10:28

@Travelcrazy where is it from? It reminds me of a dress I used to have, got rid of and regret.
I've got a wedding coming up and would live it.
I'm 63 so just about old enough for it to be acceptable by the ageist MN fashionistas.

Travelcrazy · 13/03/2026 10:47

@RaraRachael It is Precis petite and I picked it up from Vinted, it is lovely material and well made. They were a few on there when I bought it.

Don’t worry if it’s dated or not. It’s more important whether you like it or not OP.

PortSalutPlease · 13/03/2026 11:25

It’s not dated but only because I don’t think that’s ever been in fashion in the first place. It looks stuck between 50s costume and child’s party dress. Sorry!

I like that hat!

Really? The model looks like she knows some has popped a trinket basket (that was designed for popping key in on the hall table) on her head.

Hi @Travelcrazy

the main thing is you feel comfortable in it and the fit is how you want it.

i would removed the turquoise belt and replace with a thin black belt - with either a silver or gold slim buckle (depending on your jewellery or bag buckle) I think it looks nice if all these align.

Then I would wear shoes in the same material as the belt. So if belt is slightly mock croc and thin then I'd go for the same shoe material.
I would go quite modern with shoes - personally I wouldn't wear a court shoe or a stiletto - maybe something heavier with a heavier sole.

again with the bag - go with a box bag with a short handle or a fatter day clutch. If your shoes and your belt are really toning - then you could have a bolder handbag in the teal colour that really tones with the blue colour in the dress.

Personally again I think anything on the head may not work. Can you do a more elaborate up do or bun instead ?

Jacket - I would either go for a short cropped in cream suede or a really long tailored one that you could wear again over other outfits. Perhaps one just above the ankle ... tho not sure about this!!! I had a long Cream jacket I bought in NY a while back and wore it over many smart outfits and was worth the cost!

Hope you have a lovely time! X

Women in their 60s have no need to start dressing any differently to when in their 40s. I'm not saying like teenagers or 20s but why the fear of being a little edgy or fashionable. I'm not referring to the OP or her choice of dress, rather the idea wearing something dated is ok if your over a certain age. It's fine if women are happy with a dated look but its definitely not a rule just because you've reached a certain age. I like the idea a poster made when she suggested a cropped leather or suede jacket. Its all a matter of taste though & what you suit & feel comfortable wearing.

Did you misunderstand , 50s costume I think she means 1950s and she didn’t refer to women in their 60s dressing different to their 40s. Did you quote the wrong post?

and I disagree with you, if you’re still dressing in styles from two decades previously it will always look dated, it’s nothing about an age, simply stuff that is two decades old usually looks dated.

Travelcrazy · 13/03/2026 12:09

Well I have decided not to wear it now, it can go to the charity shop. Can anyone suggest something for me please that is not more than £150.
Thank you for your help

That's a shame @Travelcrazy . I hope you weren't put off by the nasty comments. I think it's lovely so if you like it, wear it 😊

To be fair I think that’s a good idea. It is quite dated looking and looks quite old, I’d assume you had it for some time or got it second hand,

i like these.

It is quite dated but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be made to look more modern. Like a PP said, I’d lose the sash and have a black slim belt and black shoes. I’d then go with another colour for accessories, chunky cardigan, such as pink. Pink and teal can look quite fresh. See this pic for an example of how they can work together.

If that's what's deemed fashionable these days I'm glad I'm considered unfashionable. Hideous 😅

You should keep it and wear it dressed down with flat pumps/ sneakers and a cardigan as just a summer dress.

Each to their own but that's ghastly.

If I owned the OP's dress I'd dress it down to wear as an every day summer dress.

The colours, not the dress! 😂

LeDix · 13/03/2026 13:23

It was dated - looked like the kind of thing that Hobbs were selling about 15-20 years ago. Anything modern looking is likely to be longer and looser I think.

I once bought a dress with a white background for a wedding and was told white at a wedding is a no no, so this with a white jacked would be a step too far I think.

OneNewLeader · 13/03/2026 13:27

Not sure where it’s from, but I’d go back and ask how they’d style it. I’d go simple, black belt, kitten, pointed toe and clutch.

I’ve been wearing these to weddings and christenings. Like a smarter cardigan but clearly not a work jacket.

I think it’s classic and is exactly what I’d wear, it’s lovely. No idea if it’s dated or not, I tend to go with what I like and feel comfortable in rather than what’s fashion.

Well I guess the good news is you know you’re not considered current. 😂

RaraRachael · 13/03/2026 13:42

I wear what I'm comfortable with. I wouldn't buy something that's supposedly fashionable if it was hideous and didn't suit me, like the current trend of baggy trousers.

Travelcrazy · 10/03/2026 11:43

Thanks for all the replies. @TroubledBloodyMary i would look hideous in that hat and boots but I appreciate your help.
Personally I like the sash but I am probably old fashioned! I will try a leather belt though. Any more suggestions very much appreciated thank you 😊

I think if you like the sash you should use it.
It's a nice dress.
I agree no to the hat and heavy shoes/ boots they would look hideous with that dress

I don’t think many people would to be fair

and loving all the hyperbole folks use, hideous. Ghastly etc, 😂
