Arghhhh! Wedding shoes when husband and me are same height!

I’m totally stuck and running out of time.
My son gets married in a few short weeks. I have the dress (photo attached) but I can’t decide on suitable shoes. The big problem is that me and my husband are pretty much the same height and I don’t want me to tower over him in the wedding photos 😁
Because I haven’t worn higher heels as a result, I probably would totter around in them anyway!
I don’t want to wear loafers either.
Please can you suggest something suitable and elegant to go with this lovely dress?

Can't see the dress yet but what about a kitten heel?

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 15:10

I’m sorry! Mumsnet has labelled the image “sensitive” and won’t accept the current photo. I will re photograph against a neutral background. Honestly it’s not a Chappell Roan type dress 😂

I hope I can post this

Well I’ve posted a photo of the dress. I think it’s up to Mumsnet to review and you to decide if you want to see it. This is very strange as it’s not porn or revealing. It’s not even on a person.
i hope you get to see it.

Has he already got his shoes? If not he can get some with a slight heel or lift.

MakemineaGandT · 24/02/2026 19:19

Something like This - I think you need closed toes given the time of year, and I think black will be classic. Any colour would distract attention from the flowers on the dress, which are the stars of the show outfit-wise.
High heels look very dated anyway, and a low slingback heel is much more current (and wearable for being in your feet all day/dancing).
Have a wonderful time!

These are perfect for the dress, which is lovely.

I love those! Had been looking at tan colour. Do you think black is better?

What's the problemo with being taller than your husband?

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 19:33

In the original photo, the model wears tan like this

I do - I really think anything else will ‘fight’ with the dress. I like the suede of the shoes I suggested - I think that will give a softer, dressier feel to compliment the dress (you don’t want a shiny black). Black slingbacks are such a classic that you will be able to wear in future with many other garments - even jeans/trousers, so they’re a good investment too. I’d go with a simple black suede clutch bag too.

I would totally think black dress black shoes. I agree the ones above are perfect

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 19:37

Oohhh! Thank you!

My DH is 4in shorter than me. Of all the things in the world is it really something to worry over? Wear the shoes you like best.

I don’t like those tan shoes with the dress at all - the heels are too high, the open toes look wrong with the dark colour of the dress, and the ankle strap is making the model’s legs look shorter (the strap acts as a ‘break’ in the line of the leg). I think sometimes when photos are taken to sell clothes, the stylist just puts models in a neutral pair of shoes that will ‘go’ with everything the model is being photographed in, to save on time. You can do a lot better!

I had this at my wedding and I just wore pretty flat sandals from Clarks. It was really fine.

The dress looks really lovely. I hope you have a good day.

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 19:38

Before you all desert me, what colour tights?

OP posts:
NotReallyNotOftenAnyway · 24/02/2026 19:42

I think it looks nice the way the model is dressed, with tights exactly the same colour as her skin, if you can get that.

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 19:45

Flesh coloured tights and black shoes then?
I have a 10 year old son too who needs someone to carry a Nintendo switch (on silent) for during speeches plus snacks, plus wipes for spicy chicken wraps so my bag will be more like a rucksack unfortunately!

Either skin-coloured sheer tights (though this has been deemed ‘dated’ recently by fashion!) or sheer black. Maybe try both and see what you feel best in. And don’t forget to take a spare pair on the day in case you get a run in them!
