Arghhhh! Wedding shoes when husband and me are same height!

I’m totally stuck and running out of time.
My son gets married in a few short weeks. I have the dress (photo attached) but I can’t decide on suitable shoes. The big problem is that me and my husband are pretty much the same height and I don’t want me to tower over him in the wedding photos 😁
Because I haven’t worn higher heels as a result, I probably would totter around in them anyway!
I don’t want to wear loafers either.
Please can you suggest something suitable and elegant to go with this lovely dress?

Do not wear the shoes suggested by @NotReallyNotOftenAnyway or @SecretFBIAgent. If the dress is navy wear low heeled sling back in navy. I actually love navy patent leather. Wear the sheerest navy tights you can find. Order more than one pair. If you are walking down an aisle or something similar being escorted by groomsman or some such escort your heavy rucksack stays with someone else. You do not want to be photographed with big bag processing down or up the aisle.

These are USA sites but to give you an idea…

Oh my.
However do you manage being that much taller than your DH?! Doesn't it affect things between you? And how others see you as a couple? Is he very short??

Please tell me you're joking. I'm tired and may have missed the irony.

Lavenderandbrown · 24/02/2026 21:56

Sorry the ad keeps popping up and sabotaging my pictures…

You'd think by now people would have given up worrying about this kind of thing- short men exist, tall women exist. Why give it any head space at all.

It's bananas, isn't it? Very weird how everyone keeps describing themselves as "towering" over their husbands too. I keep picturing that giant headmistress in Harry Potter. I'm the same height, if not a bit taller, than mine. Big bloody deal.

Didn't bother James Blunt and Sophia Wellesley at Megan and Harry's wedding.

No I'm not joking and there's no irony.
The poster I responded to is FOUR INCHES TALLER than her HUSBAND!
This is not the OP I'm responding to. The OP has more important issues to address, such as finding the right shoes.
This is about another poster.
I can't get my head around a 4 inch height difference. Surely it makes the poster feel unfeminine, and the DH feel unmasculine, and surely they look odd together as a couple?

You sound absolutely batshit.

WonderousUs · 24/02/2026 22:24

@Sunbeds do NOT wear navy shoes!
Too matchy matchy!
Wear gold, or silver, or as I said before, one of the flower colours.
Do NOT wear heels as they will make you taller than your husband.
And do NOT wear navy tights as suggested upthread!😱

WonderousUs · 24/02/2026 22:26

Really. Do I.
Well I'd like to see you with a husband 4 inches shorter than you are.

It doesn't sound like you would.

But I'm going to assume you're on the wind-up and stop biting.

Wtf is wrong with you? DHs cousin is 6ft 1 so she's taller than lots of men, should she remain single or only marry a giant? You won't like this at all but I'm just shy of 5ft 10 and my dad and brother are both 5ft 7 should I not be seen in public with them given my humongous unfeminine proportions?
How does it work with gay couples in your world? Friend of mine is 6ft 9 his husband can't be more than 6ft

It's a wind-up, I think she was actually parodying pps worrying about being taller than their partners. I'm usually better at picking up irony.

Your DH's cousin simply needs to find a 6ft 1 inch man. Easy. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the same height. I'm saying the DH mustn't be shorter. So please reassure your DH's cousin.
There is no relevance whatsoever that your DF and DB are shorter than you, since you are (hopefully) not married to either of them.
And this concern doesn't apply to gay couples since the problem of a DH being shorter than a DW is removed.

metalbottle · 24/02/2026 23:06

I got married in ballet shoes and you can get them in all colours. Make sure you scuff the soles on some paving stones first as they are designed to be slippy!

WonderousUs · 24/02/2026 23:07

@Sunbeds
Ooh look at these OP. They'd look absolutely beautiful with that dress! This raspberry is delicious. The gold ones would also work very well.

The best advice I ever read about flat shoes (and it was on MN) is that they should look intentional. Not “this is the only pair I can walk in” or similar, but “I bought these shoes because they rock!””

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 19:38

Before you all desert me, what colour tights?

Sheer tights if you must and don’t fancy braving bare legs. Go for a close match to your skin colour.

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 19:45

Flesh coloured tights and black shoes then?
I have a 10 year old son too who needs someone to carry a Nintendo switch (on silent) for during speeches plus snacks, plus wipes for spicy chicken wraps so my bag will be more like a rucksack unfortunately!

this really made me smile op, love the dress

you could have a big bag to carry All The Stuff but have a clutch just for your phone, lippie, tissues etc

Pyjamatimenow · 24/02/2026 23:10

When I married my first husband I made him wear shoes with lifts.

RetiredGranny · 25/02/2026 01:51

Is the wedding at a church? DD got married in March and the photos were taken on a patch of grass next to the church and everyone with heels sunk into the mud, so I'd wear flatish shoes for the church and change into something more glamorous for the reception (where you probably won't be doing much standing next to DH).

This is one the most patronising things I've read on MN - I really hope you're not serious?
