Arghhhh! Wedding shoes when husband and me are same height!

I’m totally stuck and running out of time.
My son gets married in a few short weeks. I have the dress (photo attached) but I can’t decide on suitable shoes. The big problem is that me and my husband are pretty much the same height and I don’t want me to tower over him in the wedding photos 😁
Because I haven’t worn higher heels as a result, I probably would totter around in them anyway!
I don’t want to wear loafers either.
Please can you suggest something suitable and elegant to go with this lovely dress?

I would do a rucksack for your child to carry but a small black bag for me.

Twatterati · 24/02/2026 20:13

Love the dress and also the Dune shoes - black suede is perfect.

I’d say nice tights, the lowest denier you can do without ripping them (this always happens to me!). Get two pairs so you can take a spare. Oh, and matt finish not shiny.

If you need any tummy/bum shaping M&S do amazing tights which are ‘shaping’ ones. They’re super comfy and definitely do shape and lift.

TBH your son needs a small rucksack or one of the cross body bags so you can have a small, black, suede bag otherwise the overall look won’t be as good.

Have a great time - it’s a gorgeous outfit.

I have a pair of Dune boots already and they just keep getting better the more I wear them. Super soft now. Definitely love the brand so will follow this up tomorrow.

In the original photo, the model wears tan like this

Those shoes look terrible with that dress. Flat, pointy toed ballet pumps, closed heel or slingback.

Pretty Ballerina is my go to but everywhere that sells shoes will have options.

My DH is 4in shorter than me. Of all the things in the world is it really something to worry over? Wear the shoes you like best.

Oh my.
However do you manage being that much taller than your DH?! Doesn't it affect things between you? And how others see you as a couple? Is he very short??

OP - I found this bargainous black suede clutch bag! Here

I don’t like it as much for your outfit as the one I posted earlier, but it would still work really well. The reason I prefer the first one is its soft rounded shape which will look good with your dress. This LKB one is more structured/sharp and more suited to tailoring/trousers than a pretty dress, but it would still work well and it’s such a good price so I thought I’d share a link

And This one is good too and a good price

In the black obviously

Sunbeds · 24/02/2026 21:04

@7238SM i agree. It’s navy and not as dark as it looks in the photo. I wouldn’t wear black either.

Ah. In that case I wouldn’t wear black suede shoes/bag with it! You need a dark navy suede slingbacks instead! I was under the impression the dress was black. Hang on, I’ll see what I can find…

SecretFBIAgent · 24/02/2026 21:11

My husband is the same height as me, and I didn’t want to be towering over him (although he wouldn’t have minded. However I am obsessed with shoes and have a ‘go big or go home’ mentality. So I went barefoot….

SORRY! Just realised you’re not the bride! Might wanna wear shoes then, or your twinkly toes might be a distraction in the photos 😍

So are we thinking it's ok for mother of the groom to wear black??

She’s just explained it’s navy not black

CypressGrove · 24/02/2026 21:19

You'd think by now people would have given up worrying about this kind of thing- short men exist, tall women exist. Why give it any head space at all.

I stand corrected, I see now it's navy.
Well that's good then.
@Sunbeds
I was worried about you wearing black to your son's wedding.
It's a beautiful dress OP.
I think you should pick out one of the flower colours on the dress and match shoes to that colour. That would look lovely.

CanineJesus · 24/02/2026 21:28

What about some lovely French Sole flats?
I’m also the same height as my DH and wore their bridal flats at our wedding. They are extremely comfortable!

Bit rude! Why should it be a big problem?
