For me it looks to casual but you can wear whatever you want to a wedding as long as you’re comfortable that’s the main thing

Rockstick · 16/02/2026 19:24

I think so. I like it and it's something you could get a lot of wear from. I hate seeing wedding guests almost in fancy dress as what a wedding guests is supposed to look like, clearly wearing something completely different to anything they'd usually wear.

That why I was doubting it, but I wouldn’t pair it with the dark tights and shoes.

Thanks. I was hoping I could wear it more than once and hoped it looked quite smart.

£27 from New Look, it’s not going to be very smart. Have you seen it in real life?

I’d say for a teenager, it’ll be fine. Older, I’d want to see what it looks like on.

Sofado · 16/02/2026 19:32

I think it’s far too casual, personally., so I wouldn’t. If it’s a casual wedding you could wear it but I wouldn’t otherwise.

TheActualQueen · 16/02/2026 19:33

It’s not massively celebratory… will you dress it up a bit op?

Yes unfortunately my budget is tight. Times are tough right it now.

I think it's a fine dress and a lovely colour. I also agree with the poster about wearability. Us mere mortals do not need single use fancy dresses.

Cricketashes · 16/02/2026 19:36

If your budget is tight have you looked at Vinted? You could get something lovely on there

Kpiallo · 16/02/2026 19:36

What style should I look out for?

I haven’t got time, I’ve had to wait until the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

I think if your budget is tight, you like it and it suits you it's totally fine @Kpiallo. It's a nice dress.
Worth looking in TK Maxx by the way, I got a dress for a wedding for under 30 quid a while ago, and it was a bit smarter and more special than my normal wear but still something I got more wear out of. So it ticked all my boxes!

dairydebris · 16/02/2026 19:39

No, too casual and dark. Its a work / lounge / pub dress.

No problems with New Look, but you can find something more celebratory.

You could get a great dress from vinted for less than that.

8misskitty8 · 16/02/2026 19:43

If its just for an evening reception with some sparkly heels and bag it would be fine.
But for an all day attendance then a bit too casual.
Have you looked at h&m ? They often do nice dresses or Primark if your on a small budget ?

HeddaGarbled · 16/02/2026 19:44

In that case, do you actually need to buy something new?

I doubt there’s nothing in your wardrobe at an equivalent smartness level. It doesn’t have to be a dress. You could maybe get a new top to go with trousers or skirt you already have or vice versa.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 16/02/2026 19:44

It's not the most celebratory design but it is a very cute dress and should be fine (unless it's a royal wedding!). You can dress it up with a lovely updo or an embellished hairband maybe, and some nice shoes?

That’s exactly how i describe a lot of wedding outfits.
All those daft fascinators, pashminas, and tiny handbags that have to match your dress!
People rarely look comfortable in them.

MiddleAgedDread · 16/02/2026 19:44

Depends what sort of wedding and how old you are? Under 16 it’s fine any occasion, older and if you’re going to the registry office and a meal at the local pub it would probably be ok but it’s hardly posh country house type wedding attire.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 16/02/2026 19:45

Is that the best photo they took??
