Its a nice dress, Id wear it (and I dont think you have to be teenager to wear it either, it would look good on anybody). But its def an everyday dress, not a special occasion one.
You could get away with it though if its a more casual wedding or if you are a 'background guest'!😁

Melarus · 17/02/2026 17:55

That's a beautiful dress @ApolloandDaphne

Denim4ever · 17/02/2026 17:55

What else with it? I assume you will need a smart blazer or jacket as it's summer wear. Some good jewellery with the v neck. If it was a longer woolly dress it would be a lot smarter.

I've worn a knitted dress to a funeral with a blazer and it was suitably smart. It was by Threadbare.

LlynTegid · 17/02/2026 17:56

Unless you are well above average height I think it will look good.

I think so too. The wedding I am going to is a pub type, artsy, city wedding not a fancy hotel wedding. I think it will work.

Dressing for a funeral and a wedding are really not comparable.

The cut, fabric and length of this dress is much more formal and works great for a wedding if the pattern is your style! Enjoy!

notthatoldchestnut · 17/02/2026 18:59

I’d wear that to work, so for me, it’s too casual for a wedding. Sorry OP

Hope you have a lovely time @Kpiallo

It’s miserable and looks cheap… I wouldn’t

OneNewEagle · 17/02/2026 21:59

That’s a nice dress too. I’ve got one remarkably similar packed away in my wardrobe in blue, going to get it out now tomorrow morning and have a good look at it as I need a dress for a wedding later in the year. I didn’t realise it was a style that’s in fashion at the moment.

£27 from New Look, it’s not going to be very smart. Have you seen it in real life?

I’d say for a teenager, it’ll be fine. Older, I’d want to see what it looks like on.

That's silly, really. There are very expensive clothes that look cheap and vice versa. That said, @Kpiallo, you could have a look on Vinted, I have had some true bargains on there.

ElevensesKing · 18/02/2026 12:49

Lovely dress you've chosen, similar in style to the one i was going to suggest & it's only £20. Would look nice with gold sandals /shoes & bag.

I think it's fine, more than fine. I never buy anything to only be worn once.

I agree about "fancy dress as what a wedding guests is supposed to look like, clearly wearing something completely different to anything they'd usually wear."

Why are the two things contradictory?

If you don't even wear a fancy dress to a wedding, the fanciest event most people will attend, when do you dress up?

Fancier than every day dress doesn't automatically mean you'll never wear it again! It's not a binary choice between full on ballgown and something you can wear to the pub/work - which to me is what the new look dress is.

You can wear a "fancy" dress to another wedding, to a special meal, graduation ceremony, award ceremony, work Christmas party - or you can resell it so someone else can wear your fancy dress once and you get some money back.

Obviously it's different if you can't afford a special dress in the first place but to me it's quite sad to never be able to justify buying something a tiny bit out of the ordinary solely because you can't guarantee you'll wear it ten times!
