I love it but think it's too casual for a wedding....although people seem to dress down alot for formal events nowadays it seems.

Bestfootforward11 · 19/02/2026 07:53

I think it’s fine if you add some nice accessories, do your hair etc. Have a lovely time x

Dressing for a funeral and a wedding are really not comparable.

The dress shown is a knitted dress, that's the primary connection. Dressing for a wedding and a funeral are similar in terms of smartness and - in this case - what you would need to do to smarten up a knitted dress. I'm obviously - to the point of incredibly obvious - not advocating wearing a black dress.

Why are people like this on Mumsnet? Deliberately picking on people giving sensible comments/advice.

Yes unfortunately my budget is tight. Times are tough right it now.

get yourself onto Vinted! You’ll pick something up for a fraction of the price. BNWT probably

WildLeader · 19/02/2026 15:15

And I think that dress is wholly wrong for anything other than popping off to the shops on a Saturday morning or to your friends for a casual coffee/drink etc.

it’s not something you should waste your money on for a wedding. It’ll be cheap acrylic

Thanks all, especially the kind comments. I’m not the best at picking outfits. I’ve now picked this one

That's lovely, and you can wear it again loads; I'm imagining it in autumn and winter with a polo neck underneath and/or a chunky cardigan, and boots.
