It’s fine. I don’t think many people will notice anyway.

Rockstick · 16/02/2026 21:14

I think it's fine, better than any of the other suggestions here.

This with bells on. It's a short, cute dress, which can be dressed up with silver ballet flats, hair up if long, fancy Alice band if short, lots of bracelets and worn on plenty of other occasions.

Frenchfrychic · 16/02/2026 21:49

What kind of wedding op, what’s rhe dress code and what age bracket are you?

late teens maybe, but it feels a little casual and not very weddingy to me.

Frenchfrychic · 16/02/2026 21:51

OneNewEagle · 16/02/2026 21:28

Be kind everyone. If the op can only afford £30 it’s a new outfit for her to wear. She might have things to go with it. Also the other comments it might be a register office wedding we don’t know that it’s not, we don’t know the ages or anything. Over the years I’ve worn some cheaper outfits than this to special occasions, or just stuff I already own as that’s all I could afford. It still meant I got to share the special day with the bride and groom and I had enough money for a wedding gift for them.

It’s not the price, it’s just very casual and plenty of dresses in the same price bracket posted,

Radiat · 16/02/2026 21:56

It’s too casual for a lot of weddings, OP. I’d go to Primark and I bet you’d find something more suitable for a similar budget.

Rora24 · 16/02/2026 22:11

Have you seen it in real life or only online? The pictures are lovely but I think in real life the fabric will make it too casual. It is type of thing I'd wear to work.

Your budget isn't an issue - plenty of options within that bracket. Happy to find suggestions if you give an idea of what you feel comfortable in, any insecurities, colour preference etc!

My rule of thumb for Weddings is generally no jersey material, no stretchy elasticated tops and not too dark or white.

HeddaGarbled · 16/02/2026 19:31

£27 from New Look, it’s not going to be very smart. Have you seen it in real life?

I’d say for a teenager, it’ll be fine. Older, I’d want to see what it looks like on.

I actually buy a lot of Apricot stuff - although I didnt know New Look stocked it - and Ive been more then happy with the quality for the price point

I wore an Apricot dress to the last wedding I went to and have never had so many compliments. I was introduced to them by my sister, who always looks immaculate, and confessed most of her wardrobe is from there.

Maybe if £500 outfits are the norm for you, you'd know the difference, but for normal people I really do think OP has found a good dress.

HeddaGarbled · 16/02/2026 23:44

There’s a lot of prices in between £29 and £500 😃

I just wonder whether OP feels she needs to buy something new because it’s a wedding and has desperately hit on this not particularly suitable dress because it’s cheap, whereas it might be more sensible to wear something she already owns and save her money.

I think it's fine. I've gone back and looked at it and I don't see a problem.

I'm assuming OP doesn't have an alternative in her wardrobe and if she needs to buy something new is looking for something she'll get the wear out of.

£500 isn't unusual for me but I still always buy things I will get the wear out of. It's shorter than I would wear but if I were on a tight budget I'd prefer a midi version of that and dress it up than the alternatives suggested. And then wear the hell out of it on every occasion.

LadyRoughDiamond · 17/02/2026 00:29

Cute option for a young teen, too casual for a grown adult.

WinnerWinnerChickenDinnner · 17/02/2026 04:00

Reminds me of a dress I bought when I was 15. I like it, and if your budget is tight then the price is right.

dudsville · 17/02/2026 07:11

This is really pretty, a great find!

I wonder if any alternatives though need to be something like next's next day delivery OP, as you mentioned you've had to leave this to the last minute. Is it this weekend? Honestly what you've chosen if fine, but people will want to step up and help you out an outfit together so do so if there's a strict time limit!

It’s got nothing to do to with the price and everything to do with the fact that this dress is a casual ribbed work dress. Perhaps fine with black tights and a black coat for a funeral but it’s not remotely appropriate for a wedding.
If she’s going to buy something new, and I’m sure she doesn’t have to because there’s nothing wrong with rewearing things, then this isn’t a good option and there are many things better that would still come in the same budget.

Rockstick · 17/02/2026 07:51

I really think wedding means something different to some people than it does in my world. (Fancy that).

No one's even asked what kind of wedding it is, just assumed it's some sort of royal wedding affair, and torn apart a perfectly nice choice, which OP will now feel uncomfortable with. Way to go.

Well OP hasn’t stated the invitation says dress causally.

For the vast majority of UK weddings this would be too informal, I probably go to about 5 wedding a year and a short ribbed jersey dress would look out of place on anyone other than a teenager.
If this is the sort of thing you would wear then fine, but clearly most people on this thread think it would be too casual and it’s worth pointing that out to OP before she spends money on it.

Ophir · 17/02/2026 09:39

it is too casual.

New Look has a lot of pretty dresses for a similar price, I’d look again

There are other dresses you can get which are cheaper and more suitable. Many have been linked on here and they can be worn again by dressing them down for a night out etc.

GreenCandleWax · 17/02/2026 16:47

ApolloandDaphne · 16/02/2026 20:59

It's fine. Really it is. I'm going to a wedding soon and wearing a dark brown jersey dress. I plan to bling it up a bit and then i still have a dress I can wear to lots of other things. You need a dress you can wear more than once.

But why brown at someones wedding? Couldn't you get the dress in a better colour? It is supposed to be a celebration.

GreenCandleWax · 17/02/2026 16:56

Not really suitable OP unless you are really younng and can dress it up somehow. What about Next or Amazon who both do next day delivery?🍀

That’s an odd take. Very few weddings you could wear that dress to, it certainly doesn’t need to be a royal wedding; how odd.

Get a Next account. Or buy somewhere like M&S or ASOS and pay with Klarna, clear pay etc.

It’s too casual for a wedding.

KidsDoBetter · 17/02/2026 17:31

No. It’s looks like you are heading in for a day at 6th form college. The fabric and style aren’t wedding appropriate imo.
