So happy with my new jeans!!

I’ve just got a pair of Next Wide rinse blue High wide rise stretch jeans. (Sorry I can’t do a link, the teen is out).

I’m 5’5” and a stone overweight and they are incredibly slimming.
I’ve tried them on with a kitten heel ankle boot which look fab peeking out the bottom of the leg.
I think they would be too long on me to wear with trainers but that’s fine as I think I’ll dress them up rather than go for a trainers/casual look.

There was a thread on here last week regarding the best wide leg jeans and do they suit everyone?
The ones I’ve bought are more flares I guess as they’re fitted at the top. Where a completely wide leg/barrel leg that adds bulk for me, these seem to do the opposite.

Been feeling a bit low/menopausal recently about my weight gain so they’ve really perked me up!
Thoroughly recommend.

Love the idea that Next would go to this much effort to get a few sales on one pair of jeans 😂

I was on the hunt for a new pair of jeans as a change from my usual skinnies. Bought these too OP! They are fab. The petite fit means the proportions are perfect and they are super flattering. When I opened this thread, I wondered if they were these magic jeans.

Ha! I guess I should be asking for some commission 🤣

Something I would never have ordered but did in a petite and love them. So many compliments and now others buying them. Thanks for the recommendation

@EagerQuail
You’re welcome!
I wore them today when I took DD17 out for lunch. She gave them a definite thumbs up 😃

Got the jeans yesterday, thanks OP! I don't normally buy from next but they are fab. I do think the sizing is quite generous and even the petite are long on me but I'll only wear these with boots I think (I'm only 5ft 1 though) x

Yes the petite are quite long, they touch the floor on me and I’m 5’2” so I had to buy some platform trainers to wear with them. The struggle is real for us shorties 😁

User415373 · 20/02/2026 08:58

I should also add, the poster that thought the band in the bottom might make a short person appear shorter and cut off, that's not the case at all!

I’m same height and going to have to get them taken up an inch. Even with flatform trainers they’re too long.

Interesting. I think tolerances on clothing manufacture are much less restrictive now so there can be cms differences in lengths and sizes in clothing supposedly an identical size.

Also depends on body shape; I am quite curvy in the hips and thighs so maybe I ‘fill out’ the jeans more than someone with slender thighs? That would lift them a little higher on me.

(In the olden days, I could grab a size 10 off the rack in M&S for example, and guarantee it would fit. I now have to take 3 of the same size into the changing room and they will all fit differently! It’s mad.)

yorkshiretoffee · 20/02/2026 17:06

Another who's bought them, shame you are not getting commission OP!
I love them! I usually can't rock a wide leg as I am quite short and wear flat shoes but I feel very at home in my petites!

HighStreetOtter · 20/02/2026 18:19

I’m wondering if dunking the bottom six inches or so in a bucket of boiling water might shrink them a bit?????

Finally happy with my THIRD pair of these magical jeans! First pair was miles too long: I ordered Long because that's what the size chart said I need at 5'7". My legs are not especially long - I'm mostly torso - but I do usually take an 81cm inside leg with platform shoes, and the chart said 79cm.

Hahahahah. They puddled on the floor around my feet. I'd have needed stilts to wear them! Ordered a pair of Regular ... and they were still too long. This time they weren't actually spreading on the floor, but doing that thing where they hit the ground too soon so the bottom third of the leg concertinas, creating an hilarious clown-like effect. Nearly all my shoes have heels or thick soles, but there was still too much material in the jeans.

Third attempt is the ONLY pair of Short trousers I have ever owned! I also sized down, as my usual 16 was sitting too comfortably round my middle. There's quite a bit of stretch in the denim, so they'd have been falling down after a few hours' wear. In the next size down, I had to lie on the bed to do the buttons up - but they're perfectly comfortable on, not tight at all.

The very high waist is good for me. I've got what's known as a long waist, so it's unusual to find a waistband that truly sits at my waist. They hold my lardy tummy in a bit and feel very supportive. The denim's thick and soft.

Sorry for the essay. This has been a bit of an odyssey, so I figured it's worth sharing for any other oblong-shaped women of slightly above average height.

RipplePlease · 21/02/2026 09:53

@GarlicBound They do wonders for my lardy tummy too. I’d forgotten about stretch denim but it’s brilliant.

You know what they say, THIRD attempt lucky!

You sound similar to me, I would usually need a long in Next jeans because I need them high up on my waist (I can't stand the feeling of jeans travelling down my bum when I sit, I get the builders bum fear 🤣 the regular is maybe a bit too long with trainers but perfect for a heeled boot.

I've ordered a pair of the hourglass mum jeans from Next so should be picking them up this afternoon, they don't seem to have any of the hourglass fit jeans in my local Next and nearly every pair I try gape at the back because my waist is smaller than my arse, so fingers crossed these are good

wellstopdoingitthen · 14/03/2026 19:21

Thank you for sharing OP.

I’ve been toying with the idea of flared but I have no hips and the ones I’ve tried are huge around my bum. I’m really tempted to try them. My problem is I’m a size 10 waist and size 8 hips so always look like a bloke from the back. Size 12/14 top so no confusion from the front! 😂

Does anyone know what the difference is with the ‘hourglass ‘ version that is on the tab?

Do you honestly not know how to copy and paste?

I am a very similar shape and Next are the only jeans I can wear really. I bought these jeans before the thread started and they are not too big on the hips or bum.

Can’t say I’ve tried any hourglass ones but assume they would be the exact opposite of what I need as isn’t hourglass a small waist and bigger hips/bum?

wellstopdoingitthen · 15/03/2026 19:30

Thanks @Anjelika. You’re probably right. I’m going to take the plunge and order a pair.
