How many pairs of pants do you have?

I have about 40ish and wash them all together once a month. I know this may be a bit odd but it feels weird to wash with the regular washing. Plus I want to make sure I use them all.

I saw a post on social media that said underwear should be replaced every 6 months which seems crazy unless you only have about 7 pairs.

You wash your knickers once a month? Don’t you worry about the bacteria sort of growing on there? We wash ours every week on 60!

Gowlett · 10/02/2026 20:44

Would week one not be a bit crusty by then?

I have loads, but favourite my full briefs.
I wear them until they wear out, TBH…

Swaytheboat · 10/02/2026 20:45

Why do you not just wash it each day with everything else?! I don't want my running pants festering!
But to answer your question, I'd say about ten pairs. And some are about ten years old. I replace them once they don't function as pants any more.

I tend to wash them at higher temperatures than regular clothes, and want to make sure I’m using all my clothes rather than picking the same ones out of the drawer (I do the same with socks).

No idea! They're all in a drawer and go in the first wash load after being worn. Every so often I do an 'audit' and throw away any that are looking shabby. I normally buy new ones when I go on holiday as it's nice to have unworn ones neatly in my case.

FairViewRosie25 · 10/02/2026 20:56

Haven't a clue how many I have but they get chucked in the main wash

This ! I cannot imagine keeping a stockpile of 30 day old knickers 🤢

YourWinter · 10/02/2026 21:02

I have never heard of anyone washing pants separately from the other laundry. What on earth do you think is going to happen?

I rotate through a 5-pack and a twin pack of supermarket pants, fresh pair each morning, and all my clothes go in the same wash load at 30.

New pants every 30 days?

1000StrawberryLollies · 10/02/2026 21:06

No, I wash them in a normal 30° wash with everything else. They are clean. I don't believe that you need to wash them on a high temperature - I'm in my 50s, have done so, and have noticed zero negative effects.

SilenceInside · 10/02/2026 21:07

Currently I have 5 pairs. I’ve been losing weight for a long time and don’t want to get too many in any one size as I will need the next size down soon. When I was stable size I had 15 pairs or so, but would wash them in with other clothes whenever a dark wash was on.

Ca2026 · 10/02/2026 21:07

Surely having 30 day old pants growing bacteria is worse than a couple of day old pants being in the wash with everything else?

I probably have about 14 pairs. Usually wear two a day, change after the gym / for bed. Was with what ever colour they are.

Designless · 10/02/2026 21:08

I actually rarely wear pants

During COVID started to feel they were unnecessarily restrictive

Lennonjingles · 10/02/2026 21:12

Because the weathers been really bad, I’ve got behind with my washing, so today I must have washed about 30 pairs of my everyday knickers. I have some silky ones which I hardly wear plus a few tiny knickers and some shape wear ones, so over 50 pairs in all.

Christwosheds · 10/02/2026 21:15

Not a clue how many, I’ve never counted -200 ? Probably a lot more as I like nice lingerie and I have lots in boxes (thyroid problem, my weight goes up and down) . I wash them immediately after wearing. I have nice ones for daytime and (a size too big) plain ones to sleep in.
I probably have three very large drawers full of drawers..
I have ones decades old, they rarely get worn out as I have so many, so I just add to them when I get new bras, or see a shape I like. I gave dd (21) a whole load of very glamorous ones bought just before I got pregnant and never worn as I didn’t ever get back to my pre-pregnancy size, so they were all a little bit older than her.

When you say you wash them immediately after wearing, do you mean you run the washing machine every day?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 10/02/2026 21:25

Probably 20 pairs

AmazingGraced · 10/02/2026 21:27

I have no idea but I have some that are about eight years old. They don’t make them as well as they used to and I can’t find any decent ones that fit and are comfortable in the shops anymore. My old ones are my favourites. I threw away some quite new ones recently as they were useless .

RealEagle · 10/02/2026 21:28

Mine are washed with normal wash loads ,never heard of saving them up .

Overtheatlantic · 10/02/2026 21:28

15 maybe? I just throw them in with my other laundry. I honestly don’t think my pants require a scalding hot temperature to clean them. 30 degrees is fine. Perhaps I have too high an opinion of my lady parts. 😆

What bacteria is growing in pants if you're a relatively clean person? They dont need washing separately or at 60. They are just a piece of material.

KeepOffTheQuinoa · 10/02/2026 21:37

I have 30-40 pairs, and like you OP, tend to save them up for a big pants wash.

Because everything else goes on a 30 ‘ wash, or delicates, or I don’t wash pants and socks with T towels, or the white ones go in a white sheet wash, or whatever.

And no, they don’t fester or grow extra bacteria etc.

I’m clean but still leak bodily fluids that I wouldn’t want sitting there for 30 days.

Greenfinch7 · 10/02/2026 21:43

I have about 9 or 10, and wash them with everything else, on cool or warm. I have a few more that I never wear because they are not comfortable- I should throw them out...

JustauseraskinganotheruserWTF · 10/02/2026 21:44

Perhaps about 21?
Tbh though I end up doing a wash most days to keep ok top of everything so wouldn't be surprised if I wear the same couple of pairs on rotation without realising it.
