How many pairs of pants do you have?

I have about 40ish and wash them all together once a month. I know this may be a bit odd but it feels weird to wash with the regular washing. Plus I want to make sure I use them all.

I saw a post on social media that said underwear should be replaced every 6 months which seems crazy unless you only have about 7 pairs.

I think 30 days is too long to leave them unwashed op. I mean there are dry-aged meats that are hung for less time than your bacteria-plastered pants are hanging round unwashed.

OSTMusTisNT · 10/02/2026 23:18

I have well over 30 pairs as I pack 30 pairs for my 2 weeks summer holiday and still have loads left in the drawer.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 10/02/2026 23:20

about 20 pairs. I wash them with my other clothes of the same colour, on 60C.

Er..... who counts their pants? When they get really tatty, a few will go in the bin, and a few new pairs purchased. But I don't do a stocktake!

You find out pretty damned quick if your washing machine breaks down!

squifflybobs · 10/02/2026 23:30

I buy 3 pairs to match each bra.Generally have a set of black, white, nude, blue , strapless and a couple of sports bras with “active” undies for running and the gym.

Maybe a “nice” set as well, but single at the moment so haven’t felt the need… .
wash them all with the rest of the washing though- just in a lingerie bag to extend their life

Vetoncall · 11/02/2026 00:30

Loads, I have 4 separate knicker drawers. They all go in the wash after every wear, we usually do a load every other day. Can't imagine leaving my gym underwear to fester for a month ☠️
Everyday/work, M&S, no-vpl jobs, mostly the low-rise short or bikini styles. Bar a couple of nude pairs they're all plain black, maybe 15 or 16 pairs.
Nightwear, I sleep in these and a t-shirt. 10 or so pairs, all black, regular cotton.
Gym, I do CrossFit 6/7 days a week. I wear Modibodi thongs because they're comfortable and absorb sweat, they're quite pricey but they do pretty good deals quite regularly so I have about 10 black and a couple nude.
Fancy/lingerie stuff, 10 or so in a variety of colours and styles, some with matching bras. These don't see the light of day all that often 😄

This ! I cannot imagine keeping a stockpile of 30 day old knickers 🤢

Sure people intentionally rage bait sometimes 😂😂😂

Sweetiedarling7 · 11/02/2026 01:12

About 12 pairs.

While we are on the subject I want to thank whoever here recommended wirapa knickers because they are blimmin amazing.

So much so that I binned all my others and just wear these.

Plus I have converted my best friend and my mother in law to them.

Putting my knickers on is now one of the nicest bits of the day.

(yes, I do have a very sad life)

LBFseBrom · 11/02/2026 01:18

Gordon Bennett, you wash them all together once a month? I have lots of pairs but wash the ones I have worn every day in the bathroom and hang them there. The idea of saving up laundry does not appeal, especially not under pants. I wouldn't leave them unwashed for more than a day, might wash two days' worth together occasionally but it's generally every night before I sleep. They keep nice and pristine.

I don't think that would ever happen on MN😂

reversegear · 11/02/2026 01:27

Is this not a troll post? Wanting women to talk about their knicker usage!

NailsHairNipsHeels · 11/02/2026 02:52

I don’t know a figure but I know I have lots. I just grab a pair out the drawer some get worn more than others and I could probably do with having a clear out.
mine just get washed with the normal washing using biological detergent, stacking them up for a month is a bit grim in my opinion.

Egggingit · 11/02/2026 03:32

I have about 30 pairs. I chuck mine in the wash with other clothes. I always wash tea towels separately.

RedRiverShore6 · 11/02/2026 05:42

About 50 pairs thank goodness as about 30 of them are ones that I really liked at M&S, they went in the sale, I stocked up, then they were discontinued. The others are another style I liked at M&S and stocked up in the sale. Hopefully all these knickers will see me out. They just go in the normal 40 wash.

Elphamouche · 11/02/2026 05:49

Probably about 30. But they go in the normal wash with everything else!!

Tamtim · 11/02/2026 05:51

I have loads. They go in the regular wash at 40 degrees. The washing machine is running pretty much everyday, several times.

RedRiverShore6 · 11/02/2026 06:00

Do people that do separate pant washes save up the DH pants and DC pants as well or just theirs.

You leave pants for over 30 days skunking about until you wash them

GROSS

Highlighta · 11/02/2026 06:05

OP, what is your reasoning for doing them on a seperate high heat wash?

The high heat is going to wreck the elastic for a start.

A normal wash really is sufficient for most items. Its the friction in the machine that is doing most of the cleaning. Look at other countries, washing in cold water all the time is very normal.

But I have about 40 pairs I guess. A few nice ones just lurk at the back of the drawer. I go for comfort over anything else these days.

Moulez · 11/02/2026 06:57

IWantToHibernate · 11/02/2026 08:18

Gosh I didn’t expect this to be so controversial. I don’t think it’s unusual to wash them together, I’ve heard it’s common in some cultures. I was always told to wash them at a higher temperature but the main reason is I want to make sure I’m wearing all my clothing. I also have my clothes in the wardrobe in order, so when I’ve washed something it goes at the back, and when I want to wear something I will take it from the front, for the same reason. For years I was wearing the same stuff and other items were never worn. Maybe the answer is to have less clothes Confused

OP, what about the rest of the household pants, apologies if you live alone.

rockingroller · 11/02/2026 08:32

Replacing every 6 months is a massive waste. there is no reason not to keep them untill they show signs of wearing out.

TheToothFairy999 · 11/02/2026 08:48

Following a 30kg weight loss I’m now down to about 8 pairs despite always having loads of pants previously. I wear two pairs a day and they get washed when by hand as I take them off. The reason I’m down to 8 pairs is because I’m planning a mammoth shopping trip when I travel in the summer and I’m determined it’s going to cover everything I need in one fell swoop.

TheToothFairy999 · 11/02/2026 08:51

Allseeingallknowing · 10/02/2026 22:28

Why is there a need to iron pants? You only need to smooth them. Your body heat “irons” creases out.

I just really enjoy wearing clothes that have been ironed.

I like my t-towels ironed as well.
