How many pairs of pants do you have?

I have about 40ish and wash them all together once a month. I know this may be a bit odd but it feels weird to wash with the regular washing. Plus I want to make sure I use them all.

I saw a post on social media that said underwear should be replaced every 6 months which seems crazy unless you only have about 7 pairs.

You iron them? 😯

I knew that would get a response 😆 but yes, I do.

FredaMountfitchet · 11/02/2026 17:37

Everyday ones about 15
Fancy ‘bra & pant ‘ sets 25
Random different styles for no vpl or neutral colour ways 15 pairs
Strange question but I’ve answered it and it’s reminded me I need to audit my knickers

FredaMountfitchet · 11/02/2026 17:38

Oh and I wash them whenever I do a delicates wash so once or twice a week .

ClaudiaWrinklemum · 11/02/2026 17:43

40-50ish? I always thought I was a knicker-hoarding freak, so it’s quite reassuring to know I’m not alone.

StarlightLady · 12/02/2026 07:32

Probably around 30, ranging from high legs and Brazilians to thongs, but some get worn more than others. They go in my normal coloureds wash in a lingerie bag at 30 or 40 depending on the other items. Unless something is particularly dirty l wash everything on a delicates cycle including underwired bras (in a bag), life is too short to hand wash things.

l always buy 2 pairs of matching knickers when l buy a nee bra, although l aspire to match underneath it all, l often don’t succeed. In the warm weather with a long summer dress often none at all.

mypinkdog · 12/02/2026 08:58

I've heard it all now. 😂 bed sheets and towels pale into comparison with this!

Jeez life’s too short to be ironing Knickers!

Life’s too short to be ironing……

TittyGajillions · 13/02/2026 08:37

I used to work at La Senza and had to steam the pants before they went out on to the shop floor, it was hell. No way in the world would I iron pants at home!

I do too when things are generally organised in our house. They sit in the drawer better and it is a good hygiene measure.

Sometimes I let it go though!

But if one thing always gets ironed, it is teatowels. I was surprised above that people don't. Apart from the fact they don't fold well un-ironed, they really need the hot iron over them. Mind you, we use linen so other fabrics might scrunch up less in the wash.

They don't actually take that long though. There are no pleats or anything! Just a quick swoosh across them.

A towel is ruined when it is ironed i think! I like that fresh from the tumble dryer texture.

Ironed sheets are heaven, but I'll admit to not always getting there.

But when I fantasise about a relaxing evening, it is a hot shower then freshly laundered and ironed bedlinen and a good book. (Yup I am that tame these days)

momager22 · 13/02/2026 09:13

I buy M&S multipacks. Probably have at least 40 pairs- I work out most days so get through 11 pairs of knickers a week. Same for my partner. I do a separate undies wash once a week and any smelly gym gear goes in there too on a higher temp.

Yes I iron tea towels as well.

bugalugs45 · 13/02/2026 18:13

I’ve prob got 25ish pairs but rotate my favourites , have 6 pairs of full briefs from m&s , when they run out I wash them with dark washing . Usually buy couple of 3 packs before my summer holiday but never seem to throw the old pairs out 😬 , I do once they get baggy though!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 13/02/2026 18:27

I couldn’t tell you how many pairs of pants I have 😳 there’s many pairs as my drawer is bursting open with them.

Legomania · 13/02/2026 18:41

Six months! I have pants that are at least 10 years old. I throw them out when they get holes in them

Giggorata · 13/02/2026 19:57

I've got loads. I tend to buy the black cotton tangas when I see them, as they are no longer as easy to find, plus I have some fancy ones, chub shorts, etc.
Some of them are quite elderly and will get thrown out when they lose elasticity or get holes.
I wash them in with my clothes. No ironing and no plastic backed liners.

Hodgemollar · 13/02/2026 20:00

This is why I hate other people’s houses. Imagine going for a wee and there’s a basket of month old knickers!

If l put a month’s load on the line, the neighbours would mistake my house for the village fete! 🇳🇵

MovingSwiftlyOn · 13/02/2026 22:34

I always had a drawer stuffed full of pants because my dear mum, bless her, used to buy me a couple of M&S multipaks every Christmas. They were top quality back in the day and lasted for years and years. I think I reached a peak stash of 60 pairs😂
I was nearly 60 when I had to start buying my own, so now have a more modest collection of about 20. They get chucked in the wash with everything else though.

Christwosheds · 28/02/2026 16:11

StripedTee · 10/02/2026 21:22

When you say you wash them immediately after wearing, do you mean you run the washing machine every day?

Yes I do. Teenage DDs who get through a mountain of towels and clothes, so I do a wash every day.

PeonyPatch · 28/02/2026 16:15

I’ve got about 10ish maybe 15. I wash them at 40-60 degrees with other bits eg. running or exercise clothes.

ClaudiaWinklemansFakeTan · 28/02/2026 16:22

I actually don't have a clue! More than ten, but less than 50

BG2015 · 28/02/2026 16:32

I have enough pants to last me for the rest of my life (I'm 57).

Ive got absolutely loads of the things. They are predominantly black, some white ones and some flesh coloured ones. All from m & s. I wash them with the normal washing.
