Hair change too drastic. Wtf have I done?

MissMuffot · 23/01/2026 13:39

I know it's just hair and it will grow back. That was my reasoning for doing it in the first place. I have a lot going on and I was just not washing my hair or taking care of it properly.

It was about 6 to 8 inches past my shoulders and dyed red. I couldn't keep up with the maintenance of it
And I felt like I had too much going on in my life to deal with such long hair.

After watching too many youtube videos, I decided to give myself a bob which obviously went very wrong and I ended up at the hairdresses. He decided that a pixie (between a bob and pixie) would be god for me and low maintenance, but he's basically just giving me a pixie with a fringe.

With my red hair, I was getting Sharon Osbourne vibes. So I try to put a brown dye over the top but it didn't take at all! so I ended up using a black dye I had in my bathroom.

So now I have Kris Kardashian vibes.

I just hate it so much. It's too dark for me.And I feel like all my femininity has gone.

I feel Ive aged myself 15 years.

I have a schwarzkopf colour remover on the way to try and get the black out.

I feel so stupid, my confidence has dropped. My kids were shocked.

DH keeps saying it looks 'cute'but I know he loved my long hair and I can just tell he doesn't really like it but he is absolutely teying to reassure me 🤣

Oh lord. Why did I do it??? 🤣😭😭

I wish I was brave enough to have a similar cut OP. It looks great x

IdleThoughts · 23/01/2026 18:53

I'd go to the hairdressers, sort the colour and get extensions. It'll cost but I wouldn't put up with feeling rubbish because I made a rash decision. It can be fixed, at a price. Stop messing around with your hair yourself.

burblish · 23/01/2026 18:53

It sounds like a drastic change from your previous style, so that's going to take you a while to get used to. But I was expecting it to be awful from your description and oh my, it looks fabulous! I really hope for you that you will feel a lot better about the new style as you grow accustomed to it, because it really is a great look!

MimiSunshine · 23/01/2026 18:56

Super cute cut OP. Also looks like it suits your skin tone.

it’ll be fine, take some deep breaths and take it as a lesson that you’re still recovering from the recent trauma

MissMuffot · 23/01/2026 17:29

I don't really wear make up, I feel daft if I do. I just wear mascara, a liquid eyeliner (catseye) and blush.

Thanks for the calming replies.

I actually feel a lot better now.

You look great! Not saying that to cheer you up but the cut is a mix of super cute and a bit of rock 'n' roll - I really like it. And the black is just grand, not as severe as I imagined..

I have thin, wispy curly hair that's falling out with menopause - I'd swap any day of the week 😍

You'll get used to it and it will grow.

I'm currently bald from chemo and likely to be for some time so it's all relative.

I lost my girl to cancer.

I’d rather have you alive and hairless than hair-full and gone any ol’ day.

I wish I could express to you how happy I am that you’re here to talk to us today. I don’t think I could put it into words.

I’m sending you EVERY BIT OF MY LOVE wherever you are in the world today and every day.

Please never stop fighting for other cancer patients and never stop spreading the love ❤️

@MissMuffot it's lovely. I bet it'll grow on you. Just use a but more eye make up and a bit of blush, maybe a lip tint? Do you have green eyes?

Oopsylazy · 23/01/2026 19:01

MissMuffot · 23/01/2026 14:18

Because I had a mental breakdown a few months ago and i was getting matted from not not washing/brushing/drying it properly. And it hurt brushing the mats out

OMG it’s lovely!!
It looks so cool honestly OP, I wouldn’t say anything at all if I thought it looked shit.

I think you are just struggling to see yourself properly at the moment x

I was expecting something scary but in the photo it looks so good!

That’s the WORST, isn’t it?
And the condescending “You look great” just pisses me RIGHT off.
I have a brush - I see the copious amounts of hair that land in trash every day.
I’m not wearing rose coloured glasses - I know exactly what I look like.
It’s grim.
It’s sooo depressing.

bcski · 23/01/2026 19:12

@MissMuffot
I think it looks nice actually and it won't get matted so that will be a relief for you.
Don't try to remove the colour.
It's obviously a massive change from before but I think you will get used to it and maybe even come to like it.

silverwrath · 23/01/2026 19:13

I dyed mine black when I was pregnant.

I blame the hormones. 🤪

Lesson learned.

3luckystars · 23/01/2026 13:56

Sorry you have made FOUR big mistakes now, please don’t make another.

Stay calm woman or you will end up bald!!!

Don’t use that colour remover stuff. You will damage the hair you have left.

Stay calm, even if it’s awful, of course it will grow back. Everyone makes mistakes, we have had hair disasters. Go to a hairdresser or colour correction specialist and don’t panic it will grow back.

Don’t do any more damage!!!

Second this!

Don't know what possessed you to try to cut your own hair but for goodness' sake step away from the hair products now.

ClaudiaWrinklemum · 23/01/2026 19:22

Oh OP. I have been there! I am still growing out my latest disaster.

The colour remover will get rid of a lot of the black (but it will probably go orange if you had red on it before), but DO NOT put another colour (any other colour) on it straight away or it will oxidise and end up black again. Leave it a couple of weeks. It’s cold. Wear a hat.

A pixie with a fringe after having long hair is going to be a big difference but I bet it looks really nice. I love a pixie with a fringe! It’ll grow to bob length before you know it but enjoy the shortness for now, you might never have properly short hair again! Rock it. You can do it. It’s not as bad as you think. You think Kim Kardashian would choose shite hair with all her cash?!🤣

Edited as just seen photo…

WTAF it looks AMAZING!!! It’s a beautiful cut and a super nice colour.

Holdinguphalfthesky · 23/01/2026 19:22

But @MissMuffot , you’re beautiful!

That is a fantastic, funky, brilliant hairstyle. I came to say, try going even shorter (very short is IMO easier to wear than slightly short) but I don’t need to give any advice. You look great. I really hope that when you’ve got used to it, you think so too.

VintedVintage · 23/01/2026 19:24

OP it looks lovely. Sorry you have been through such a crap time lately <<hugs>> hope your recovery keeps progressing.

Genuinely, as much as I can tell without being able to see your face, I think it looks really nice. It doesn't look obviously too dark for your skin tone, and I really like the cut/shape. It doesn't even look in bad condition. So just leave it as it is now and you'll get used to it.

And your husband sounds fab.

Chrysanthemum5 · 23/01/2026 19:26

I like it a lot! We've all had hair disasters and mine looked way worse than yours 🤣

WhatsitWiggle · 23/01/2026 19:27

OP, that looks amazing! As others have said, very chic. Shows off your face.

Please don't use anything harsh on it. (No colour remover, lemon juice or fairy liquid) Box dyes are already rough on your hair and it will just strip all the oils and leave it rough. Just wash and condition, the colour will soften. I'm naturally dark with a fair amount of grey and every time I home dye, I'm shocked at how dark it is initially.

It'll also still look cute as it's growing, bit of mousse and rough dry, and you're good to go!

krustykittens · 23/01/2026 19:29

I think it looks very chic and not all Kris Kardashian! It looks like it really suits your shape of face and your hair texture.

Teaforthetotal · 23/01/2026 19:29

That is nice!I think you even did a good job on the colour.

Sorry to hear you're going thru chemo and you're probably just trying to help op put things in perspective but op is just having a moan about her hair.. these threads are for everyone. Let her have her say in peace.
