Hair change too drastic. Wtf have I done?

I know it's just hair and it will grow back. That was my reasoning for doing it in the first place. I have a lot going on and I was just not washing my hair or taking care of it properly.

It was about 6 to 8 inches past my shoulders and dyed red. I couldn't keep up with the maintenance of it
And I felt like I had too much going on in my life to deal with such long hair.

After watching too many youtube videos, I decided to give myself a bob which obviously went very wrong and I ended up at the hairdresses. He decided that a pixie (between a bob and pixie) would be god for me and low maintenance, but he's basically just giving me a pixie with a fringe.

With my red hair, I was getting Sharon Osbourne vibes. So I try to put a brown dye over the top but it didn't take at all! so I ended up using a black dye I had in my bathroom.

So now I have Kris Kardashian vibes.

I just hate it so much. It's too dark for me.And I feel like all my femininity has gone.

I feel Ive aged myself 15 years.

I have a schwarzkopf colour remover on the way to try and get the black out.

I feel so stupid, my confidence has dropped. My kids were shocked.

DH keeps saying it looks 'cute'but I know he loved my long hair and I can just tell he doesn't really like it but he is absolutely teying to reassure me 🤣

Oh lord. Why did I do it??? 🤣😭😭

Perhaps a lovely silk scarf will soften it. Or a wig !

Buzzlightfear · 23/01/2026 18:26

I love it, it really suits your face! It looks like a really expensive cut too, so a bargain at £40.

CakeFace1234 · 23/01/2026 18:26

I love it too. It looks smooth and shiny and a is a lovely cut on you. Very chic.

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 23/01/2026 18:28

Step away from the colour remover! Your new style is so cute. It's just a bit of a shock for you, but that cut is lovely, and I love the dark colour with your pale tones. I'd have a little look at some make up to compliment your new style. I always think pinker tones suit pale skin and dark hair but absolutely experiment with what works for you.
I hope you're feeling much better soon.

mustwashmycurtains · 23/01/2026 18:28

OP this was not was I was expecting at all! You look great 👍 Looks like a cool elfin pixie cut in the right way. And colour is not at all bad. Good luck getting used to it

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 23/01/2026 18:28

It looks good!!!!

I'd keep it

Assssofspades · 23/01/2026 18:28

I had an image of something awful in my mind, it's actually lovely! Looks so healthy and glossy too.

Ducksbehindthesofa · 23/01/2026 18:29

It looks absolutely striking. Something I'd love to do, but I'd never be brave enough! From the comments you've had on here OP, together with your DH's opinion, it looks like we all like it so much more than you! I hope reading all the positive comments helps boost you a little 💐

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/01/2026 18:31

Oh girl, sorry your replies haven’t been the best

fwiw the second I read your post, I could tell you’d had a menty b xx

ive done the same 😂😂 - well similar

I cut my hair off with scissors, Britney style during the pandemic! Was so so poorly but having the hair gone was a relief!

‘my advice - cut it all off and start again. You’ve done so much to it now, it’s probably not in the best condition anyway

mines grown back. I tried to bleach it myself and it turned orange 😂😂, so dyed it black again

go bald, get a new piercing, you’ll be alright ❤️❤️

@MissMuffot

StripedTee · 23/01/2026 18:32

It looks lovely! Honestly!

honeylulu · 23/01/2026 18:33

Have just seen the photo and it looks really good! Nothing like i imagined.

I know exactly what you mean about not feeling right without your long hair but it will grow and once your feelings have settled you might enjoy it in the meantime. Just try to leave it alone!

I like my hair long but it tends to get dry and ratty and two years running I've gone to the hairdresser and said cut off as much as you think and then been horrified by how short it's ended up. It doesn't look awful but I really struggle coming to terms with the change. I've got a clip on ponytail (from amazon, not expensive) which matches my hair colour so if I really want long hair for an evening out I wear that. It's growing back now ...

Reassurancells · 23/01/2026 18:33

Oh love. What a lot you have had going on.

that’s lovely though. Honestly. It’s gorgeous.

Goditsmemargaret · 23/01/2026 18:15

Ohhhh I feel your pain - I remember it well. Are you finished your treatment yet?

It is exciting when it starts coming back, I remember the joy of seeing beautiful little eyelash stubs appear.

No, still got a way to go unfortunately. It's also very cold at this time of year! I'd pay good money to even have an inch of hair at the moment but, on the bright side, I'm very quick in the shower. No leg shaving either...

ukgone2pot · 23/01/2026 18:35

@MissMuffot - use Head and Shoulders. As a teenager, I used to use -'sun inn' on my hair and decided to get it stripped back to my natural colour (medium brown). I got the absolute shock of my life when my hair turned jet black as the stupid salon used too much dye. It was dreadful and I couldn't stop crying and didn't go to school it was that bad.

Another salon advised I used H&S and it really stripped the colour out of it. Definitely worth a try.

Don't use that! You'll just end up with bright orange, damaged, hair.
Can you afford to go to an expert colourist (even if just the once) to get you back on track colour wise?

This is very very true

Mygosh · 23/01/2026 18:38

Don't stress hun, we've all done things to our hair and regretted it. I went from hip length hair to a bob because I wanted to give it to a cancer charity. Immediate regret, but it's slowly grown back to past my shoulders. Best thing to do is not panic and accept that you will look different for a while. Nobody is judging you ❤️

nzeire · 23/01/2026 18:38

Oh it looks gorgeous! Shiny and healthy!

reminds me of the time i “helped” a friend who was wanting to feel better about herself…

one of my kids came in when we finally had it looking ok(ish) and said “hi Emma, oh wow, you look like Ron Weasley”

oh, how we (I) laughed

i do my hair all the time, I was recommended Malibu c, sachets of colour remover… I had quite a buildup of home dying dark brown. I’ve done it 4 times, and I have everything from shades of orange, browns, and then the natural at the roots. next week I’m remortgaging the house to go professional to try and lighten / even it all up!

good luck! I get it, I really do! X

Movingon2024 · 23/01/2026 18:40

Wow op I was expecting a total disaster but that is so lovely!
it is so pretty. And even with your face concealed you can tell it suits you.

don’t touch it. It’s beautiful. Maybe it’s just thr shock of it being different that has taken you by surprise.

This op!
I thought dying mine black would be a good idea.
It wasn’t. So I tried a colour remover and my hair went bright orange and as rough as a Brillo pad.
I spent a full day in the hairdresser’s getting it fixed! I would leave it for now and use head and shoulders or a clarifying shampoo to help the colour wash out or go to a hairdresser.
I bet there’s nobody here hasn’t had a disaster with their hair I’ve had a few!

Emiliaswrath · 23/01/2026 18:41

@MissMuffot I'm not getting Kris Kardashian vibes at all, I think it looks cute.

It always takes time to get used to a new look, but hair grows back surprisingly fast. My daughter had her long hair cut really short, like closely cropped short just less than 2 years ago. She absolutely hated it and has definitely learnt her lesson. Her hair is now down the middle of her back, so try and stay calm and don't do anything else to it 😊

Moveoverdarlin · 23/01/2026 18:41

In my experience, long straightish hair is the easiest style to maintain.

SeaBee7 · 23/01/2026 18:42

It’s absolutely gorgeous! You genuinely look lovely. 🥰

Notonthestairs · 23/01/2026 18:45

Just joining the chorus of replies to say the haircut and colour is lovely and suits you very well.

Someone mentioned 90s Winona Ryder and they are spot on.
Give yourself a few days and you'll see what we do.

NNforthispost · 23/01/2026 18:46

Haven’t rtft but I saw the photo and I would say don’t worry as it looks lovely. It will just take a bit of time for you to adjust to it. Sit with it for a week and I bet you’ll get used to it.

MissMuffot · 23/01/2026 17:29

I don't really wear make up, I feel daft if I do. I just wear mascara, a liquid eyeliner (catseye) and blush.

Thanks for the calming replies.

I actually feel a lot better now.

O.P - don't be so harsh on yourself.
I think your hair looks lovely.
Obviously we haven't seen the original hairstyle, but this hairstyle looks good on you 🙂x
