Hi everyone, as above, can anyone help with possible dress ideas for wedding in a couple of months time. Weather will be mild, I’m size 6-8, short and wear most colours, and would wear heels etc. fancy wedding with long lunch and after party. Excited but a bit daunted!

That truly is a wanky dress code. Almost designed to give people anxiety.

how about a jumpsuit?

ExperiencedTeacher · 10/01/2026 12:32

Has this “theme” been given to you by bride and groom? Pretentious crap.

Miranda65 · 10/01/2026 12:33

Dear Lord! I'd be tempted not to go to a wedding where the guests are told to dress to a "theme". In reality, just dress how you like, as long as you are tidy and decent..... what are they going to do? Chuck you out?

trustedadult · 10/01/2026 12:34

Just throw a feather boa on

Spidey66 · 10/01/2026 12:34

Wtf does that mean?

Indeed. I would not attend a wedding, either, where quests are given a dress "theme".

One of my nieces not only had a "destination" wedding which would have been expensive for quests to attend but also asked that guests dress in black and white.

Sleepasaurus · 10/01/2026 12:46

I wouldn’t go because they sound like twats.

tartyflette · 10/01/2026 12:47

Jesus wept.
I feel tired just reading that.
(Definitely much too try-hard. )
Wear what you like and what you feel comfortable in.
And a silly hat, perhaps, if you like and have one to hand.

CuriousKangaroo · 10/01/2026 12:48

What a stupid dress code. The point of a dress code is to help guests know what kind of thing to wear. Made up ones like this are far too open to interpretation to be helpful.

I think it means smart but maybe colourful or unusual? God knows!

tobesuretobesureagain · 10/01/2026 12:50

I googled

Wow, that would stress me out. How about a co-ord from Never Fully Dressed? They are really colourful.

Grammarninja · 10/01/2026 12:51

I once went to a wedding in the south of France mid summer where the dress code was bohemian- black tie!🙄

Acommonreader · 10/01/2026 12:52

Toddler style playsuit with a can of Pledge.

manicpixieschemegirl · 10/01/2026 12:55

Jesus God, the misery on this thread! I swear most mumsnetters would attend weddings wearing their pyjamas if they could.

What’s your budget, OP?

LupaMoonhowl · 10/01/2026 12:55

Completely agree with all those who think this is bonkers. Whatever happened to just wanting peope you love to come and celebrate with you. Are they Beckhans or Ramseys trying to weed out their embarrassing rellies?

pouletvous · 10/01/2026 12:56

I would totally ignore that wanky “dresscode” and find an outfit you feel good in

VapeFree26 · 10/01/2026 12:57

Wear a normal beautiful dress but take a mini water pistol that you fire at the bride and groom.

Here's my playful part you tiresome, pretentious a-holes.

BowlyLarr · 10/01/2026 12:59

Is that literally what it says on the invitation? What a load of twaddle.

Setting that aside, a couple of months takes us to mid March but you say mild weather. Is the wedding in the uk? And what sort of venue? And what’s your budget?

hohahagogo · 10/01/2026 13:04

To me polished means fitted not too mush excess, no frills etc. playful is sort of the opposite. I personally would opt for a more traditional wedding type outfit but in a more fun pattern so not plain at least eg look at somewhere like Joanie who have mini dresses in fun fabrics i would then pair with a more formal jacket for the ceremony

ExitPursuedByABare · 10/01/2026 13:06

Wear what you want. But love the idea of the water pistol.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 10/01/2026 13:09

God, don’t go! Who are these tossers and why do you want to be at their wedding? If you must, v classic outfit but with a brightly coloured element (so a stylish trouser suit but in red rather than navy).

Dollyfloss · 10/01/2026 13:10

I would wear something like this maybe (but not if it’s very warm)

Or just wear whatever you like and buy an outlandish hat!

According to Dr Google:

Polished but Playful Dress Code
The polished but playful dress code is a versatile approach that combines the elegance of formal attire with the casual comfort of smart casual. This style is perfect for events where you want to make a statement without being overly formal. Here are some key elements to consider when dressing for this dress code:

So, just what you'd probably normally wear but just with a ridiculously wanky name!
