Hi everyone, as above, can anyone help with possible dress ideas for wedding in a couple of months time. Weather will be mild, I’m size 6-8, short and wear most colours, and would wear heels etc. fancy wedding with long lunch and after party. Excited but a bit daunted!

Lucy and Yak dungarees and a full face of makeup

Ohpleeeease · 10/01/2026 15:58

Anything you like with a Prue Leith necklace.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/01/2026 16:05

Based on the dr. Google explanation shared by a PP, I think I’d go for a tailored suit, with coloured silk shirt or camisole depending on the climate/style and wear it with some new trainers. I’d be pleased to have the opportunity for comfy shoes. But ‘smart casual’ might have done the trick a little easier!

SequoiaTree · 10/01/2026 16:06

What about a Carrie Bradshaw hat?

Wear head to toe lame, that will fuck the flashbacks on wedding photography. Encourage other guests to do the same.

GreenGodiva · 10/01/2026 16:13

Can I suggest these lovely tank top jumpers just in case you get cold? Fits the theme perfectly imo

I googled

Oh my goodness I think I would pay the OP to wear that first one

worcesterpear · 10/01/2026 16:39

I was going to say pretty much what everyone else has said, just from reading the title. But if you want to show willing, I'd just get a nice dress or jumpsuit, probably plain, and then something like has been suggested - statement necklace eg from Tatty Devine, glitter high heel shoes, or some nail art nails in a style you wouldn't normally have.

Neighull · 10/01/2026 16:49

I would wear a sleek, simple black dress with minimal jewellery and makeup but go crazy on the shoes

PricklesLikely · 10/01/2026 16:53

What on earth is wrong with a dress code? I appreciate a bit of guidance as to the level of dressiness to go for, and a description like that surely just shows you that it’s an event that they’ve put effort into but they don’t want it to be super formal, so you know to dress accordingly?

I’ve had invitations which say it’s festival style, or a woodland hand-fasting, or morning dress in a cathedral, why has this one got everyone’s backs up?

Anyway, that doesn’t help with what to wear but I might go for something from Needle & Thread and enjoy the opportunity to dress up in a fun way.

Empress13 · 10/01/2026 16:59

Why can’t people just make things bloody simple it’s a wedding not a fancy dress party FFS

Asking anyone to dress in a specific way for your wedding is rude. If people know the venue they can make their own dress choices appropriately. If someone is happy to dress down a bit for a festival type wedding then they would for a church that's up to them. Same as if they would be more comfortable remaining in something more formal for a beach wedding.

There is a general expectation of what to wear to weddings. Everyone knows what it is. Asking people to meet a theme, whether than theme is wear blue or go super formal and black tie or shorts and sandals it's crass in the extreme to treat your guests as a fashion parade rather than people you hope to celebrate with you for their own sake.

This one is particularly infuriating because it's utterly meaningless and just wanky use of language that doesn't actually give anyone any guidance.

TeaAndToastedCrumpets · 10/01/2026 17:10

I would choose any wedding appropriate dress and then find a complimenting "fun" bag. Something like this:

Ohpleeeease · 10/01/2026 17:13

Dungarees. Everybody in dungarees.

Lavenderandbrown · 10/01/2026 17:25

Colorful
retro…vintage or my favorite 70s silouette and A line.
colorful bright shoes
anything with feathers
look at USA based site Frances Valentine just for ideas…or this from USA dillards…

I disagree, not all weddings are the same and unless you’re someone who just wears a nice floral dress and court shoes to every occasion then it’s good to know where to pitch it.

TiredofLDN · 10/01/2026 17:29

Oh I think that’s quite fun. As a slim woman, you can really play with texture and volume, which is fun- and very on trend so lots of good stuff out there.

At the more conventional end, maybe something like this:

https://nothingbutstyle.com/products/pink-halterneck-ruffle-asymmetric-gown-dress?variant=51433888940298&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=1938384951&gbraid=0AAAAACwqUHnWHvXlcpTnK-7QrQQyflo2W&gclid=CjwKCAiAjojLBhAlEiwAcjhrDpi0MVKSBXNQgoexjTUluytvr_Sv4ccXAIkve08RpP485f3neNjcXBoCd6EQAvD_BwE

or this?

This is a bit too white, but would otherwise fit the bill and is a bit more wacky

Farm Rio is a good shout generally tbh.

Would be also looking for stuff like this- super classic, and if you’re happy to wear black the cute heart motif on the buttons could be carried through with gold accessories:

If you are comfortable in a floral dress and court shoes then that is exactly what you should wear to any wedding.

Jesus God, the misery on this thread! I swear most mumsnetters would attend weddings wearing their pyjamas if they could.

What’s your budget, OP?

I don't think wedding guests should have to buy something different to every wedding they go to. Not everyone can afford that in addition to all the other costs of attending a wedding that is not local.
Not to mention this particular theme being difficult to understand.

Sunshineofyourlove · 10/01/2026 18:53

What a wanky theme.

What wotld you usually wear to a wedding? Wear that.

Dolphinnoises · 10/01/2026 19:00

I’d buy a nice dress and then get gel nails to match it, plus earrings like Rachel from Traitors
