Hi everyone, as above, can anyone help with possible dress ideas for wedding in a couple of months time. Weather will be mild, I’m size 6-8, short and wear most colours, and would wear heels etc. fancy wedding with long lunch and after party. Excited but a bit daunted!

I would just wear what I would think suitable for a wedding, which means that I would make an effort.

I have no dea what polished but playful means.

The last wedding I went to was smart casual.

Ariel896 · 10/01/2026 19:05

Oh my gosh this is the most cringey dress code! Why does wedding planning make people go batshit crazy?! The bride and groom must be prize winning twats

Teddleshon1 · 10/01/2026 19:09

What a hideous theme. I had one recently that was “Mointain chic”. Why do people do this?

Left · 10/01/2026 19:42

I think I’d go super formal on outfit, but then go all out ridiculous on just one element.

So a formal suit, silk shirt, loafers, clutch bag. And then something like this fascinator:

As a man I would have no concept of this. The only choice I would have is tie or no tie. yes I know we have it easy

Left · 10/01/2026 19:45

Could go very literal on the playful reference and have something related to play (a game).

Is that a misspelling of mountain? So you’d go in a Swiss Heidi sort of outfit?!

sprigatito · 10/01/2026 19:56

I like this theme, it’s fun. I’d wear something like this:

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain oops sorry, yes mountain chic. I just wore a nice dress, having attended the wedding I’m still none the wiser as to what it was actually supposed to mean.

manicpixieschemegirl · 10/01/2026 12:55

Jesus God, the misery on this thread! I swear most mumsnetters would attend weddings wearing their pyjamas if they could.

What’s your budget, OP?

This! My BF had a wedding before Christmas and I sent her a photo of me in my pjs and was like you wish you were me! Weddings are a pain in the ass never mind a shitty dress codes.

Piglet89 · 10/01/2026 20:11

That dress code’s alliterative anxiety in an envelope.

OneNewEagle · 10/01/2026 20:12

I think it means a fancy dress for the polished playful would be wear it with flip flops or a straw hat that sort of thing? But that would be a summer wedding and the wedding you are attending must be March to April. It’s made me smile as all I can think if it’s Easter wear the fancy dress with an Easter bonnet or a basket of Easter eggs 🤣.

SayDoWhatNow · 10/01/2026 20:20

This may end with all the men in suits plus novelty socks/ties unfortunately.

I think I would do the playful bit very understated but very specific - like earrings in the shape of chameleons, or Mondrian nail art or something.

Namechangeforthis88 · 10/01/2026 20:23

Oh sorry, polished?

Wear a normal beautiful dress but take a mini water pistol that you fire at the bride and groom.

Here's my playful part you tiresome, pretentious a-holes.

Or get one of those joke flowers that squirts water at people and wear it as a buttonhole.

How bizarre.

Did they mean like hiking gear or something? - what were other guests wearing - I must know!

My serious answer would be to wear something like this. Or any smart, colourful outfit that you feel comfortable in. If your smart outfits couldn't be described as colourful or playful, maybe you could bring a novelty clutch bag? I used to like the Lulu Guinness "fan" bags.

Thortour · 10/01/2026 20:41

What in the Live, Laugh, Love fresh hell is this?

SirChenjins · 10/01/2026 20:56

Are they just mad crazy funsters in all that they do?

I'd just ignore the pair of them and wear something I like. I would also be very tempted to top the outfit off with a red clown nose and blast an air horn at intervals through the whole event to keep things playful.

OrigamiAnimal · 10/01/2026 21:02

Yeah that is seriously cringe. In 10 years they will surely look back and die of embarrassment at asking their guests to do that.

Wear anything you like that you feel comfortable in and is wedding-appropriate.

AncientMarina · 10/01/2026 21:18

How about a full length sequinned wedding dress complete with veil and bouquet of roses.

Playful enough?

TheMildManneredMilitant · 10/01/2026 21:18

I mean it is a bit of a bizarre dress code but this is style and beauty not AIBU and OP asked for ideas so....

I'm not style guru OP - but if it was me I'd go for a trouser suit in a colour I loved - probably from Zara unless was able to go all out - and then go to somewhere like Wolf and Badger and find a fabulous top. Like a silk blouse in amazing print, or a lace blouse in interesting shape, or bustier with embellishments. Maybe a proper giant wide brimmed hat perched on the side of my head if I could find one that suited and really wanted to go for it.

ShesTheAlbatross · 10/01/2026 21:29

I’d wear whatever I’d wear to any other standard wedding. And I assume most people would do the same.

SirChenjins · 10/01/2026 21:34

She's been given lots of ideas that are perfect for this request.

LucyLoo1972 · 10/01/2026 22:16

I know exactly what I would wear to that!

I have a jumpsuit with little palm trees all over it from Emily and Finn
